If I’ve got only a moment there are certain scenes I watch for a quick hit of kdrama goodness.
Today’s Favorite Scene is the Panda sighting from Flower Boy Next Door episode 1. This was the first moment our two leading actors see each other. Literally, they see each other.
The setup – Our leading lady Ko Dok Mi (Park Shin Hye) is a recluse. She rarely leaves her apartment. She has a crush on the man in the apartment across the street. She watches him through binoculars. Little does she know that her crush’s brother (our leading man Enrique (Yoon Si Yoon)) has arrived to visit his brother.
Dok Mi whips out her binoculars to get a peek at her crush and his new puppy. She is relieved to see all is well. When her crush goes into another room, she scans across the windows and sees a man…in a panda hat…staring…at…her. It’s Enrique clad in a panda hat, no shirt, shorts and panda slippers. I love the Panda attire on the top and bottom of Enrique. He’s not happy to find someone is watching his brother without his knowledge. In my favorite bit, Enrique points his fingers at his eyes then point his fingers at her. He is clearly telling Dok Mi “I’m watching you.”
Even more startling for Dok Mi, Enrique decides to confront the person behind the binoculars and storms to her apartment building. This puts all the characters in her apartment building on alert as Enrique arrives looking to confront the culprit with the binoculars. Meek Dok Mi is terrified as Enrique makes his way to her apartment door. I love it when she tries to figure out what Enrique’s finger “watching you” movements meant. Dok Mi is truly stuck when Enrique arrives outside her door. This ends Episode 1 of this series.

Cute. I’ve been meaning to get around to this one just because everyone always says how good it is. But the description of the series always sounded dull to me. Thanks kjtamuser for posting the clip. That makes me actually want to watch it.

This was a great scene–Gotta love how Enrique only puts on a short trench coat over his boxers, panda hat and slippers to walk over to Dok Mi’s to confront her—who’s the pervert? I also laughed as Dok Mi tries to figure out the hand gesture “I’m watching you” 😛
