Is a female character worthy to date someone I care about such as my brother? For this installment of Would I Want My Brother to Date Her? I reflect upon the lead female from the series Kill It.
Our candidate: Do Hyun In, portrayed by Nana, is a police officer investigating a series of murders she believes are tied to the death of her boyfriend years ago. She’s drawn to the handsome vet, Soo Hyun, in her building. He is more than he seems. They also share a past.
Background. Hyun In’s boyfriend was murdered years ago and she has wanted to find and bring justice to the culprit. When a series of murders occur, she believes the killer could be one and the same. Hyun In is an adopted orphan brought into a wealthy family to literally replace a daughter that died. Her memories of the orphanage aren’t positive except for one boy, a numbered child, number 88. When she realizes her vet neighbor Soo Hyun is this long lost boy, she edges towards caring for him. But Soo Hyun holds himself at a distance and has secrets of his own.
SMART, CALM, COLLECTED. Hyun In is a woman in a male dominated world of police and prosecutors. She’s determined, logical, and a natural leader. She never lost sight of the task at hand. Granted when she suspected her neighbor’s actions, coincident sightings, etc. she might have given his explanations acceptance without vigorous confirmation. But that was more about friendship and trust, not doing her job in a subpar manner. Again and again Hyun In directed the police team to follow the clues gather evidence to stop evil from winning.
CARING. Hyun In could have put her full focus on her job but she was drawn to the offered mothering to the young woman Seul Ki that owns the building. Yes, Seul Ki was there at the murder scene of her boyfriend and learning what she knew was an initial driver to that relationship but that was resolved when Seul Ki refused to open up. Hyun didn’t walk away when she couldn’t get the answers she wanted. She developed a genuine friendship with Seul Ki, one that benefited both of them.
MET CHALLENGES. How would you feel if you had to interview the man that terrorized and hurt children at the orphanage you grew up in? Hyun In was scared too, but she gritted it and did the best she could. Hyun In also directly asked her adopted father about his activities and feelings for her. She understood when he lied and when he bluntly told her the truth. How would you feel if the man you’ve come to care for romantically might be a killer? Hyun In investigated and found out the truth.
HESITATED BEFORE SHARING SUSPICIONS. Hyun In wanted to believe that Soo Hyun wasn’t what she suspected he might be. There were times when she waited before sharing information that would put the spotlight on Soo Hyun. Eventually she did expose Soo Hyun and the police focused on him. This is what she should have done. Her job was to solve murders, not protect the Soo Hyun.
Would I Want Her to Date my Brother?
Hyun In is a female character worthy of my brother’s consideration. She’s smart, dependable, attractive, with a caring side. She could be steady person to share life’s challenges with. 👍
