Ghost Doctor Episode 2

After a successful surgery on the aging Chairman Jung, Cha Young Min (Rain) and Intern Ahn Tae Hyun watch the patient sleep. Intern Ahn suggests Young Min take a break. Young Min declares he won’t leave until the patient wakes. Then he gets a text from an unknown person to meet him. Young Min tell Intern Ahn to watch the patient and exits the ICU. Intern Ahn looks at the patient who he’s now alone with. Young Min almost runs over Resident Go Seung Tak (Kim Beom) when he speeds out of the parking lot.

Young Min rushes to the spot but no one is there. He waits. No one comes.

Flashback…A young Jang Se Jin (Uee) smiles at him.

Intern Lee Sun Ho finds the patient’s vitals up. He calls Young Min to report. Young Min says he’ll return to the hospital. As Young Min drives Intern Lee calls to report the vitals are getting worse. Young Min asks where Intern Ahn is, Intern Lee doesn’t know. A motorcycle pulls up to Young Min at a traffic light. Young Min drives aggressively. The motorcycle follows. The motorcyclist maneuvers Young Min to swerve by getting in front of him. Unfortunately, Young Min swerves into a truck.

Chief Ban Tae Sik finds Intern Lee fretting about the worsening condition of the patient. CB wonders what is taking Young Min so long to return to the hospital.

An ambulance arrives at the hospital. The first victim is brought in. The second ambulance arrives. The patient is Young Min. Intern Oh Soo Jung (Son Na Eun) recognizes him and they rush him into the ER. Meanwhile Intern Kim Jae Won rushes upstairs with a blood vial labeled Jang Kwang Deok (the aging Chairman) and delivers it to the lab for a test Young Min ordered.

The ghost Young Min watches Seung Tak perform surgery on him. Se Jin assists. When the surgery is almost complete, ghost Young Min is sucked back into his body. But when he starts to bleed out the ghost Young Min is expelled from the body.

Se Jin learns that Young Min is in surgery. She rushes to the OR. Young Min’s body starts to die, Young Min’s ghost passes out. Intern Ahn arrives and pushes the frozen Seung Tak out of the way. He gets the job done.

Deputy Director Han Seung Won learns Young Min was in a car accident from CB. They wonder why Young Min left the Chairman before he woke.

Ghost Young Min rushes to his bedside grateful that Intern Ahn saved his life. Soo Jung asks if Young Min will live. Intern Ahn doesn’t know. The surgery went well but Young Min may not wake due to extended low blood pressure. Ghost Young Min tries to fuses with his body but it doesn’t work. He can’t believe he can’t kickstart his own life. Intern Ahn asks if Seung Tak really performed surgery on Young Min. They don’t understand why Seung Tak froze.

Outside the hospital, Seung Tak remembers waking in the middle of the surgery he doesn’t remember performing.

Chief Ban orders the interns to keep the Chairman’s status quiet.

Intern Kim finds Seung Tak and tells him he did well for his first surgery. He tells him that the first surgery often passes in a blur, like you were possessed.

Soo Jung remembers Seung Tak doing Young Min’s trademark hand flex before the surgery. She wonders what that was about. When Seung Tak enters the lobby, she’s waiting for him. Seung Tak bluffs that he’s always been a gifted surgeon but he’s hidden it. She tells him to watch over Young Min and leaves.

Ghost Young Min watches his body sleep. He notices the drainage isn’t connected and yells at the staff. No one hears him. The cleaning lady strolls by and connects the drainage. She asks if Young Min is happy. He can’t believe she sees him. He follows her. Then a ghost exits her. The cleaning lady wonders what just happened. Tess, the ghost, tells Young Min that taking over a Seung Tak’s body can cause death to the ghost and body. Plus, he won’t be able to return to his body. Young Min can’t believe what he’s hearing. Tess explain ghosts in comas can’t possess other people’s bodies. He wonders if Young Min’s body will die soon. Young Min insists he’ll wake from the coma.

Ghost Young Min sits next to his comatose body. He watches the care he receives. Seung Tak arrives to check-in on the comatose Young Min. Ghost Young Min knows Seung Tak must be confused as to why he was able to conduct surgery. Seung Tak wishes Young Min would wake so he can hear Young Min thank him for saving him. Young Min isn’t impressed with the sentiment.

The next day the hospital is buzzing about Seung Tak’s skills.

The doctors and interns gather about Young Min. They agree he is comatose. Intern Ahn sighs.

Tess brings another ghost with him and they observe a bummed out Young Min. He’s not pleased when he overhears Seung Tak state the coma must be Young Min’s fate. He wants to attack Seung Tak but can’t touch him. Tess explains there is a boundary zone around his body in ICU that he can’t go beyond. Tess says Young Min needs to be near his body so incase he wakes he can jump back in. Tess doesn’t have that constraint and walks outside.

Director Han and Chief Ban agree that with Young Min in a coma, they’ll need to hold the press conference about Chairman soon.

Two nurses note Young Min doesn’t have any relative to care for him. Ghost Young Min watches his comatose body. He walks the hospital halls. He admits to himself that surgeries weren’t much of a life. He notes if he dies, he did save many lives. The chairman’s ghost hits him and demands he be restored. He threatens to punch him again. Young Min rushes away. Ghost Chairman hits his boundary and can’t follow. Tess tells Ghost Young Min that the Chairman may not be a ghost because of his surgery.

Young Min goes to visit the Chairman. He sees Se Jin. He wonders why she’s still in Korea and not back in the USA. Se Jin wants to see her father but her brother’s security men refuse her again. Her brother refuses to let her see their father or their father’s medical file. Se Jin argues the surgery was a success so there must be some reason why their father slipped into a coma. Her brother tells her to leave and not come back. He doesn’t consider her his sister. Se Jin says he’s a jerk and not her brother either, nor has he ever been. Se Jin vows to return. Her brother says he hates her.

Ghost Young Min follows Se Jin as she tries to gather herself. He’s surprised she’s crying. Young Min can’t believe that she dumped him to embrace a family that treats her terribly.

Intern Kim Jae Won and Intern Ahn argue about the dosage of a drug given to the Chairman. Intern Kim is sure the allotment was 5000 while Intern Ahn declares it was 1000. Intern Kim admits he didn’t administer the amount, he had to leave so he asked Seung Tak to. Intern Kim says Chief Ban ordered him not to reveal the dosage mistake.

Furious, Young Min finds Seung Tak. He rushes him and ends up taking over his body. He doesn’t realize he’s in Seung Tak’s body until Soo Jung hits him. He quickly deals with an incoming ER patient then rushes away.

Young Min inside Seung Tak’s body asks Tess how he was able to take over the body again and more importantly, how does he get out. With Tess’s direction, Young Min pops out of Seung Tak’s body. Seung Tak wonders what is going on and rushes away. Tess warns Young Min not to possess Seung Tak’s body often as it lowers the odds, he’ll every wake from the coma. That gets Young Min’s attention.

Seung Tak calls his mother and asks if he can become something other than a doctor. The answer is no. She tells him to come home for dinner.

Seung Tak sees Intern Kim who is upset when he sees the Chairman’s son. Seung Tak remembers bumping into the Chairman’s son earlier in the week.  Intern Kim can’t believe that both Young Min and the Chairman (the surgeon and patient) fell into a coma on the same day.

Young Min visits the Chairman. The ghost Chairman asks who put him in a coma. He wonders why Young Min left the hospital when he was in recovery.  The Chairman’s son strides into the room. He tells his comatose father that if he’d listened to his daughter, he’d have 1 year of life without the surgery. He didn’t want to get blood on his hands but he had not choice. The son gets a call and leaves the room. Young Min looks at the Ghost Chairman.

Young Min follows the son to the rooftop where Director Han is waiting. Director Han wishes Young Min hadn’t gotten involved or hurt, a major cash cow is now in a coma. The son admits he thought Director Han staged Young Min’s accident. Director Han assures the son he’ll get out of this mess. But Young Min is a problem they must deal with.

Seung Tak remembers Intern Kim asking him to inject the Chairman with a 5000 dose. Director Han sees him in the hallway and asks about the doctor that operated on Young Min. Director Han says he put another’s doctor’s name as the doctor of record so Seung Tak wouldn’t get in trouble. Director Han tells him to continue the good work. He walks away. Young Min watches Director Han exit.

Ghost Young Min follows Seung Tak into the lounge. Young Min notes as a ghost he’s able to listen to conservation without others knowing. He looks at Seung Tak and wonders if Seung Tak wanted him dead and that’s why he volunteered to conduct the surgery. He wonders if Seung Tak feels guilty about the surgery.  Young Min believes there wasn’t a surgeon available for his operation because they were dealing with the Chairman’s situation. He guesses that the 5000 dose wasn’t a mistake. Young Min wonders when Seung Tak concocted this plot. Did he do it to pass the medical board?  Seung Tak gets a call about Young Min’s status in the ICU. He runs down the hall. Ghost Young Min follows. He enters Seung Tak’s body.

My Thoughts

Director Han is in cahoots with Chairman Jun’s son? Writer Kim Sun Soo revealed (and Young Min overheard) the discussion between Chairman Jung’s son and Director Han.  It certainly sounded nefarious. Young Min then wondered if Seung Tak was in on it too. That was a bit of a leap, but Young Min is stuck and trying to figure out how this came to be. Even though he was told jumping into Seung Tak’s body would weaken his chances of recovery, he entered when the call came in that his body was in distress.

Cha Young Min (Rain) can jump into Seung Tak’s body but it costs him. Tess told him every takeover of Young Min would lessen the chances of his body recovering. The body is in bad shape – in a coma with limited brain function. It was good that Young Min wasn’t the lone ghost in the hospital. Tess isn’t awed by Young Min and calmly set the boundaries.

Go Seung Tak (Kim Beom) can’t get the previous day out of his head. How was he able to operate on Young Min? Intern Kim told him to administer 5000 units to Chairman Jung. Did he?

I rank this episode as good7 on a 10-point scale.

I think Kim Beom’s character did administer the 5000 units of Heparin because the doctors all know that Chairman Jang’s problem is too much Heparin. Intern Kim seems incompetent/unsure of himself so the question is who gave Intern Kim the order for the Heparin? At this point the story doesn’t make sense because Intern Kim is unsure of the amount he told Kim Beom which would make it all seem unintentional because of his incompetence. But we know it is intentional. Apparently even 1000 units would’ve been bad so was the order for 1000 and Intern Kim just made it worse by screwing the order up and telling Kim Beom 5000?

As far as Raincs car accident, that was just weird. First of all, I would think the Delivery Guy is coincidental because, let’s face it, riding a scooter with the chicken big on the back is not very intimidating. (I’ll happily exchange that for the good ol’ white truck of doom). But none of it can be coincidental because I’m pretty sure somebody faked that text from Uee that got Rain out of the hospital so they could administer the Heparin. And Intern Ahn sure seems suspicious as far as Chairman Jang’s condition goes although he did save Rain so I’m giving him a pass as far as being involved in Rain’s accident.

Since there’s no way for Chicken Delivery Guy to know that Rain would turn off in that direction, then I wonder what Chick Delivery Guy was really trying to accomplish? Maybe a relative of a deceased patient of Rain’s with a grudge?

BTW, did Uee finally get rid of the giant eyeball contact lenses or have I just gotten used to looking at her? 😆

Agreed that Young Min was lured away. The scooter appeared to be on a mission to force an accident. The truck seemed to be serendipity. The Chairman’s son has the motive to eliminate his father and therefore could be the one that set Young Min up.

I had to look that up. There are articles noting her affinity for Circle Lenses.

I concur it looked like Young Min was setup for an accident. The chairman’s son is not a nice person, so he looks like an easy target to be called villain … he may very well be, but Seung Tak’s cousin looks like a potential villain candidate was well. We have a lot to learn about the characters, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Young Min in ghost form, like it or not, will get to see the true character of his colleagues. Who are true friends and who are foes❓⁉️

That’s something everyone wonders…what do people really think and say about me when I’m not around?

Family doesn’t mean loving and supportive for these two men.
