Would I Want My Brother to Date Her? Backstreet Rookie
Is a female character worthy to date someone I care about such as my brother? For this installment of Would I Want My Brother to Date Her? I reflect upon the female lead from the series Backstreet Rookie.
Our candidate. Jung Saet Byul, portrayed by Kim You Jung, has a long standing crush. Will her dreams of a real relationship come true?
Background. At a young age Jung Saet Byul is the sole breadwinner and parent authority for her high school sister. She longs for family and love.
MARTIAL ARTS EXPERT. Taught by her father, Jung Saet Byul, is a woman that doesn’t mind using her fists and feet to make a point.
POSITIVE. Jung Saet Byul is not a cookie cutter perky bright kdrama female lead though she has characteristics of the standard character. She is positive but not gullible, determined but not dumb, loyal but able to see faults in those she supports.
RESPONSIBLE. Jung Saet Byul carries a heavy load for one so young. With her parents dead, she is the sole breadwinner for herself and her sister. While the weight of this responsibility was felt, she never rejected that she should and could shoulder the burden. Her work ethic was commendable.
FIXATED. Jung Saet Byul was fixated on one man as her potential love interest. She didn’t recognize an equally excellent man was available and interested. Side note – She was also susceptible to guilt.
Would I Want Her to Date my Brother?
👍 Yes. I like her attitude and ability to navigate through life (even the bad times) with determination. She is the kind of woman I’d want to stand by my brother. She’s also flat out gorgeous which any man would respond to.
