2019 In Review – Secondary Leading Ladies – Best to Worst

2019 In Review – Secondary Leading Ladies – Best to Worst

Looking back at the secondary leading ladies of the series I blogged in 2019, I decided to assign an empirical score. How did they rack and stack?

Arthdal Chronicles Taealha (Kim Ok Vin) 9
Touch Your Heart Dan Moon Hee (Park Kyung Hye) 8
My Country: The New Age Seo Yeon (Cho Yi Hyun) 8
Haechi Cheon Yoon Young (Bae Jung Hwa) 7.5
Welcome 2 Life Bang Young Sook (Jang So Yeon) 7
Romance is a Bonus Book Song Hae Rin (Jung Eugene) 7
Smile Has Left Your Eyes Tak So Jung (Jang Young Nam) 6
Level Up Bae Ya Chae (Kang Byul) 6
Kill It Kang Seul Ki (Roh Jeong Eui) 5
Melting Me Softly Na Ha Young (Yoon Se Ah) 4

What did I consider salient points about each secondary leading ladies?
* Arthdal Chronicles – Taealha (Kim Ok Vin) – Smart, strategic, able to weld power in a male dominated world, passionate, half of villain super couple
* Touch Your Heart – Dan Moon Hee (Park Kyung Hye) – Wacky character desperate to find a man, she hooked me
* My Country: The New Age – Seo Yeon (Cho Yi Hyun) – Able to see the good and forgive, she was the touchstone of the two primary male characters
* Haechi – Cheon Yoon Young (Bae Jung Hwa) – Devoted mistress to the crazy evil prince, her guidance aided his cause, she couldn’t quit him
* Welcome 2 Life – Bang Young Sook (Jang So Yeon) – Efficient assistant for the police team, in love with the chief but he refused to take her out of the friend zone
* Romance is a Bonus Book – Song Hae Rin (Jung Eugene) – Editor/manager with an excellent work ethic, had a hard time letting go of her unrequited love for the leading man
* Smile Has Left Your Eyes – Tak So Jung (Jang Young Nam) – Female police officer that supported the brother and sister navigate their challenges
* Level Up – Bae Ya Chae (Kang Byul) – Didn’t listen when the leading man stated he wasn’t interested, threatened by leading lady’s connection the leading man
* Kill It – Kang Seul Ki (Roh Jeong Eui) – How this character ties to the storyline is the interesting part of this character
* Melting Me Softly – Na Ha Young (Yoon Se Ah) – 1999 girlfriend that couldn’t accept that 20 years later, the leading man wasn’t into her anymore

Taealha was really something. I was impressed by Kim Ok Vin’s performance. Happy that sweet Yeon scored high too!

    • Taelha and Tagon were the super couple of season 1. Tanya and Eunseom could be the super couple season 2 (should it come to pass).

Yeon’s importance can’t be overstated in the series. She was almost the glue between Seo Hwi and Sun Ho.

What a variety of characters on this list❣

I concur that these second leads made a difference in their stories.
