Welcome 2 Life Episode 10 Recap
Lee Jae Sang (Rain) wakes from the coma. Paralegal Moon Ji Ho calls the nurses and Lawyer Kang. Jae Sang asks Ji Ho about Shi On and Bo Na, his daughter. Ji Ho states Jae Sang doesn’t have a wife. Lawyer Kang bursts into the room happy to see him. Jae Sang doesn’t share the same sentiment. He finally buys a clue when they call him Lawyer Lee. He realizes he’s back in the normal universe.
A couple hiking in the woods find a body.
Detective Koo Dong Taek (Kwak Si Yang) and Detective Yang interrogate a man that claim to be schizophrenic, therefore he’s not responsible for beating his girlfriend. Stick of listening to the excuse from the repeat offender, Detective Koo punches him in the nose and declares that was his other self. Detective Yang gets a call a body has been found.
Had to chuckle at Detective Koo’s effect tactic.
The doctor tells Lawyer Kang that Jae Sang is suffering from delirium caused by the anesthetics. He guesses Jae Sang will snap out of it in 1 week. Ji Ho tells Jae Sang he’s been in a coma since 7/28. When Jae Sang realizes today is 8/28, he realizes Shi On is in danger. He implores Ji Ho to see if a body has been found. Ji Ho shakes his head in disgust, having Jae Sang awake is turning out to be a nightmare.
Detective Koo and Detective Yang are leaving the police station when forensics officer Ha arrives and states the body may be someone they know.
Ji Ho calls a report and finds out a body was found. Jae Sang believes it could be Shi On. He convinces Ji Ho to drive him to the mountain.
At the mountain, Detective Ra Shi On (Lim Ji Yeon) kneels at the body of her brother. She finally knows he’s dead and welcomes him back in a soft voice.
Jae Sang arrives at the site and demands to proceed to the body but the police block him. Detective Koo hears the ruckus and is surprised to find Lawyer Lee there. Lawyer Lee asks if the body was Shi On. Detective Koo won’t divulge details. Shi On comes forward and asks why Lawyer Lee is there. Utterly relieved to find his wife (but not wife in this universe) alive, Jae Sang rushes to her. She brushes him away. Jae Sang asks if the body was her brother. Shocked, Shi On asks how Lawyer Lee would ask such a thing. She asks if he was involved. A tear rolls down Jae Sang’s face.
Mr. Jang campaigning for mayor meets with women that provide shelters for women of domestic abuse. Mr. Jang’s wife is silent but smiles. One of the women gives Mrs. Jang a whistle they give women in abusive situation. Mrs. Jang murmurs a woman could use it when they are too frightened to scream. Mr. Jang pries it out of his wife’s hand and returns it. He takes his wife’s hand and declares that he’ll never let her go out a night where she might be attacked. The women are impressed with his caring. At home, Mr. Jang locks his wife in a room with a two-day sentence. From the door he shouts are her for saying something inappropriate and not taking the sleep medicine he gave her. She apologizes and begs to be released. He walks away and order his men to watch the door.
Geez, he is a mean son of a gun.
Outside, Pastor Park tells Mr. Jang the body was found.
At the hospital, Detective Koo tells Detective Ra she doesn’t need to visit him. But she’s determined.
Lawyer Kang berates Ji Ho for taking PL to the crime scene. PL states he forced him to. Lawyer Kang asks how Lawyer Lee knew whose body it was. Lawyer Lee says he wouldn’t believe him. He states he’ll send Detective Ra away. Lawyer Lee states he wants to see her alone.
Shi On steps into Jae Sang’s hospital room. She wants to know how he knew about the body. Jae Sang states he had a dream about it while he was in the coma. She doesn’t believe him. She asks how he knew the victim was her brother. Jae Sang admits he investigated her when they broke up after he deceived her. She scoffs that she regrets the time she spent with him. Jae Sang can’t help but thing of sweet moments with her from his dream. A tear rolls down his check. Shi On promises the if he helped obstruct justice, she will put him in jail.
Mr. Jang is livid that the body was found on land he owns. He rails at Pastor Park that if the police put the puzzle together, he’ll end up in a jail cell not the mayor’s office. He orders Pastor Park to call Lawyer Kang to delay the police investigation.
Detective Koo takes Shi On to her brother’s family memorial. She tells her niece, Se Ri, that the whole family is together after 10 long years. She sobs that she’s sorry she’s still alive.
Police and their dogs search the area. They find something.
Outside the memorial house, Detective Koo takes a call from Detective Yang stating he must return to the mountain. They found two more bodies, and these aren’t that old.
Detective Koo briefs Chief Oh about the bodies. One body is 14 days old and the other is 7 days old. Ms. Bang reports one of them was an escort. They were killed in the same manner as the orphanage mass murders.
All roads lead to Mr. Jang.
Pastor Park tells two women from a shelter their foundation is interested in supporting them.
CEO Yun interviews one of the women. She wants this opportunity. He wants her real background story.
Chief Oh presses his boss to establish a special unit to investigate these serial murders. He points out the police already have the public’s distrust in how they handled the orphanage murders.
Jae Sang thinks about moments with his wife including her death my hammer. He believes the murderer may go after her. Ji Ho reports all three victims were killed by a blow to the back of the head. Jae Sang believes the man he saw in his dream was the murderer. He is convinced Shi On is in danger. Ji Ho asks when he will get his act together. Jae Sang promises he will.
Lawyer Min greets Lawyer Lee at the law firm. He wants tips from Lawyer Lee. Like the time he wrestled custody from a mother by claiming she was the abuser when it was the father that was abusive. Lawyer Lee laughs self-mirth and declares he was human garbage.
Lawyer Lee and Lawyer Kang meet with Mr. Jang and Pastor Park. Lawyer Kang introduces Lawyer Lee as one of the firm’s best lawyers. Mr. Jang wants help on his campaign. Lawyer Lee counters that Mr. Jang is here about the recent bodies discovered on his lands. Mr. Jang is taken aback but laughs it off. Lawyer Lee is offered riches to fix the situation. Instead Lawyer Lee takes off his attorney’s pin and quits. Mr. Jang asks if he’s okay from his recent accident. Lawyer Lee promises they’ll meet again soon. He walks outs.
Chief Oh recalls his boss stating he would pick the leader of the special investigation unit, the man that would take the fall if things fall apart. While Chief Oh drinks his beer and considers his choice. Ms. Bang arrives. She informs him she takes martial arts classes around the corner. He scoffs that she’s too slender to pack a wallop. She declares she’s got what it takes. He asks if he should t a pit bull of puppy dog for the special investigation unit. Ms. Bang recommends a pit bull because they are pursuing animals. They overhear two men discussion robbery versus burglary. CO saunters over, introduces himself and recommends the men not discuss such things unless they want to have the police involved. They try leave, he pushes them down. They run. Ms. Bang spots them on a wanted posted, rushes over and uses her martial arts skills to perfection to take down one of the men. She orders Chief Oh to call the police.
These two are enjoyable. I believe the men were script writers in the opposite universe scene.
Detective Koo tells Detective Ra that the murders had the same MO as the orphanage murders. Consumed with the knowledge her brother wasn’t the killer, but that person is at large and still active, Detective Ra is distracted at work. Detective Koo can’t help but notice and takes her to spar. He encourages her to fight and release her rage. The physical battle ends with Detective Ra in tears sobbing out her pain and fury. Detective Koo tells her a special investigation unit is being formed to investigate all the murders. He suggests they both join and find her brother’s killer.
While Detective Koo has unrequited love for Detective Ra, he never seems pathetic, only a supportive friend. I liked his tough love stance.
Jae Sang walks to the home where he liked with Shi On and Bo Na in the opposite universe. Happy memories come. He sees Detective Koo walking Shi On home. He realizes she lives there.
Shi On thanks Dong Taek for being there for her every time. She proclaims he is a decent man. Dong Taek suggests he move out of the friend zone. Shi On is shocked. Dong Taek admits he’s liked her for 10 years and he’s ready to pursue her for real. He warns her he will be straightforward with his feelings going forward. Shi On is speechless. Jae Sang watches and doesn’t like what he sees.
10 years and this is his first move?
Jae Sang returns to his fancy penthouse apartment. He’s alone. He can’t get happy and bad times out of his head between himself, Bo Na and Shi On. He even imagines Shi On and Bo Na there. He sobs knowing the life and wife he could have had, the child he should have had, did not happen because of his selfish outlook and choices.
That’s it, we’ve waited for the regret. Rain did a nice job in the scene.
CEO Yun gives Pastor Park the two next candidates or should we say victims. Pastor Park asks the criteria CEO Yun makes his selection. Outcasts and lonely fit both Hwa Soon and Hyun Joo.
He seems more malevolent in the normal universe.
Mr. Jang berates his wife for not losing enough weight. He orders her to starve herself. He tells her to run an errand for him in the morning.
The next morning before heading out to work, Shi On looks at a picture of his brother’s family. She promises her brother and his daughter, today is a new day.
Does it seem weird she never mentions her brother’s wife?
Detective Koo, Detective Ra, Detective Yang, and Officer Ha enter their new place workplace. Ms. Bang greets them. Chief Oh welcomes them.
Mr. Jang’s wife arrives at his office to pick up the quarterly reports as directed. Alone in the office she eyes the locked cabinet.
CO explains to the team their first case is the orphanage murders and the two bodies on the mountain. They ask who the prosecutor will be. CO explains this guy knows the ins and outs of bad guys. Jae Sang and Ji Ho enter the room. Mouths drop open in surprise.
Mrs. Jang opens the cabinet and the safe therein. She finds the bloody hammer!
Detective Koo voices what everyone is thinking. Chief Oh puts his hand on Jae Sang and declare he is the team’s prosecutor. Jae Sang smiles and introduces himself.
Jae Sang rejects his life in the normal universe. Writer Yoo Hee Gyeong hit a home run with this episode. We know what happened to Si Oh’s brother. Mrs. Jang’s discovery of the hammer makes Mr. Jang the likely murderer. He’s cruel and vicious, so I believe he probably swung the hammer. All the previous episodes flashbacks and weight added punch to this episode. Jae San realizes the life and wife he could have had, the child he should have had, did not happen because of his selfish outlook and choices. I call that payoff.
Lee Jae Sang (Rain) decided to go get the life he wants. Jae Sang was thoroughly disgusted with his all aspects of his job. I loved it when he told Mr. Jang to turn himself in. I loved it when he quit. I loved it when the regret for his material/ego choices robbed him of the life he knew was better. I loved it when he walked into the team’s meeting and introduced himself as the prosecutor. The shock on their faces was priceless.
Detective Ra Shi On (Lim Ji Yeon) is alone in the normal universe. Shi On was shocked by Dong Tae’s suggestion they have a romantic relationship. I’ve grown to respect Dong Tae over this series. He never mooned over Shi On. With his declaration and Jae Sang’s addition to the team, she’ll have two men vying for her.
I rank this episode (on a scale from 1-10) as terrific. My rating chart is below:
