Romance is a Bonus Book Episode 13

Mini Recap

Cha Eun Ho (Lee Jong Suk) is dismayed when he meets recruiter after to recruiter. They all declare that Dan Yi would never be chosen because of the gap in her employment. Eun Ho even tries to convince a designer to hire Dan Yi, but to no avail.

Kang Dan Yi (Lee Na Young), Park Hoon (Kang Ki Doong), Oh Ji Yool (Park Gyu Young) decide to enter the idea contest. They have to come up with an idea for the next great book. Eun Ho encourages Dan Yi to think of a long term idea, a book that would sell well for years.

Eun Ho (Lee Jong Suk) visits Writer Kang with Executive Kim Jae Min (Kim Tae Woo) by his side. The doctor tells Eun Ho there isn’t much time left. Eun Ho asks Executive Kim to tell him that he made the right choice all those years ago. He cries.

Song Hae Rin (Jung Eugene) tracks down Ji Seo Joon (Wi Ha Joon) and apologizes for getting drunk and having to be taken to his apartment.  Seo Joon doesn’t easily forgive, forcing Hae Rin to make multiple attempts to smooth over her gaff. Finally Seo Joon begrudgingly agrees to move forward.

The executive team has cast their votes. Will the poetry book be published? Bong Ji Hong (Jo Han Chul) is hopeful that maybe this time a poetry book will get the needed votes. Seo Young A (Kim Sun Young), Director Ko Yoo Sun (Kim Yu Mi), and Eun Ho stun Executive Kim with yes votes. Ji Hong is ecstatic.

Young A asks to transfer Dan Yi to the marketing team. Director Ko asks Eun Ho if he terminiated Dan Yi’s contract. Eun Ho points out that Dan Yi did nothing illegal and can keep working. Director Ko informs the executive team that Dan Yi lied on her employment application. Executive Kim is left with the decision on whether or not to terminate Dan Yi.

Dan Yi can sense something is wrong. Young A tells Dan Yi, the executive team has learned she lied on her application. Stunned, Dan Yi sits at her desk in shock.

She goes to Executive Kim’s office and tells him and Director Ko how no one would hire her and this position didn’t require education or background so she applied. With tears in her eyes she tells them she’s loved working her and hopes Executive Kim will allow her to stay.

Seo Joon has a manuscript with the same title of Writer Kang’s last manuscript. He removes the bulletin board of data.

That evening at home, Eun Ho tells Dan Yi she can’t be fired for the offense and she can finish her contract. He tells her she’s a great employee and the company needs her support.

The next morning Eun Ho drives Dan Yi to work. He cajoles a smile out of her when he calls that he loves her. She shushes him as their personal relationship is a secret.

Eun Ho teaches his college course. He gets a text from Hae Rin that Dan Yi resigned.

Dan Yi sits dejected at the bus stop, her box of personal items on her lap.

My Thoughts

Dan Yi’s lie implodes her career. Dan Yi was the last to learn that her application falsification was revealed to the executive team. She was upset and made an impassioned plea for leniency to Executive Kim. But she couldn’t stay even though she could complete her contract. She resigned instead. Now she’s in a bad spot. She knows no one else will hire her. Eun Ho knows no one else will her her. This job was a source of satisfaction and purpose. What will Dan Yi do now?

Kang Dan Yi (Lee Na Young) resigned after falsified application was brought to light among the executive team. Young A was a friend and colleague telling Dan Yi the issue. Immediately Dan Yi knew her job was in grave jeopardy. Her plea to Executive Kim was heartfelt. She struggled to stay emotion free but couldn’t. Lee Na Young nailed that scene. Eun Ho encouraged her to keep her head up and stay the length of her contract, but Dan Yi couldn’t and resigned.

Cha Eun Ho (Lee Jong Suk) couldn’t find a replacement position for Dan Yi. Eun Ho talked to recruiters, lawyers, and friends trying to find a new position for Dan Yi should be terminated, but turns out that a 7 year employment gap could not be overcome. Eun Ho overhead Dan Yi’s plea to Executive Kim. He encouraged her to keep working and not quit. He thought his cute declaration of love gave her the boost to keep on going. But the text from Hae Rin stating Dan Yi had resigned dashed cold water on his hopes. I have enjoyed the friendship between Executive Kim and Eun Ho. Executive Kim’s support has been crucial for Eun Ho. I was surprised when Seo Joon took down his wall of notes in his secret room.

I rank this episode (on a scale from 1-10) as terrific. My rating chart is below

The eighth song of the OST is titled “Happy End” sung by SAya and Kim Ki Won:

Color 🖍️ me 🎊surprised🎉 that Seo Joon 🎨👨‍🎨 didn’t want to see Hye Rin 👙 AT ALL after her drunken episode. I suppose it was a major turnoff. I found Hye Rin’s 👙 stalking apology to be irritating, not conciliatory. She should have stopped at the first apology.

I wonder what was the impetus for Seo Joon 🎨👨‍🎨 to take down his writer Kang board; was it the false sighting of the writer❓⁉️

I find it ironic that Eun Ho 🖋️👨‍💼 wanted Dan Yi 👠👩‍💼 to confide in him when she was struggling unsuccessfully to find a job AND YET he was concealing that her contract WILL BE terminated for lying on her resume. I understand that she lied, but it was a lie of omission, which is different than providing false information.

I just don’t understand why Dan Yi’s 👠👩‍💼 co-workers we supposed to be uncomfortable if they knew she had a college degree and work experience. She was hired to be an office grunt and didn’t complain about it. Dan Yi 👠👩‍💼 did all the requested menial work and reached out to more fully use her skills to benefit the company and someday improve her position. Dan Yi 👠👩‍💼 is doing the job she was hired to do and then some. I’m over qualifed for my job. None of my co-workers are uncomfortable around me or hesitate to give me menial work.

I wondered why Dan Yi 👠👩‍💼 didn’t wait for the results of her impassioned plea.

Yep, but she couldn’t let it go and kept pressing.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Most of us have menial moments in our jobs every day. Dan Yi is the poster child for positive attitude at work.
