This time on “Would I Date Him?”…I reflect upon a secondary leading man from the series Haechi .
Our candidate: Haechi’s justice driven sidekick, Inspector Park Moon Soo, was portrayed by Kwon Yoo. The series begins with Moon Soo catching Prince Yeoninggun cheating on the civil service exam for pay. Moon Soo’s moral compass won’t accept this and he chased the Prince down, so their relationship had a rocky start. But as the prince rose and Moon Soo became an inspector, he joined the prince’s inner circle. He grew to be a crucial supporter for the prince who became King.
Background. Moon Soo’s single aim was to pass the civil service exam and become an inspector. Unfortunately he serially failed the exam. He crossed paths with the cheating Prince who would be King during a civil service exam. Determined to pass, he kept studying and taking the exam until he finally passed. He was less than thrilled to learn the inspector’s organization had corruption which went against his grain. But the corruption had positions of power so he had to work within the system.
STRONG MORAL COMPASS. Moon Soo had a rock solid sense of justice. He didn’t waiver. He couldn’t be bribed or influenced to veer from the right path. While you might think this would make him inflexible, it made him the perfect man to support the Prince then King Yeoninggun.
LOYAL. Moon Soo choose to support Prince/King Yeoninggun and never wavered once he committed himself. During the rebellion, King Yeoninggun gave Moon Soo challenging assignments. Moon Soo fulfilled everything asked of him. His loyalty could not be matched and the King’s faith in Moon Soo was absolute.
SELFLESS. Moon Soo loved fellow inspector Yeo Ji (Go Ara). But when he realized Prince Yeoninggun cared he backed off. At that point Yeo Ji’s feelings could have gone either way. Moon Soo threw himself into dangerous assignments during the rebellion with the sole aim of defeating the rebels and keeping King Yeoninggun on the throne. He could have been injured, captured, or killed but none of that mattered…his goal was to defend King Yeoninggun’s reign, with his life if necessary.
Is he my next date?
Moon Soo was a fine man that evolved from civil servant wanna be to the army leader that defeated the rebels. He was honest, straightforward, a fighter and a man who executed plans to great success. His strong sense of right and wrong combined with fighting skills made him a e valuable trustworthy confidant of the King. We didn’t get to see Moon Soo having tons of fun so I’m not sure if he’d be a fun date. But he’d be a man you could trust with your life and heart if you were drawn to him. I’m not sure I am drawn to Moon Soo, even with his fine qualities. But you don’t know what you don’t know, so I’d give him a chance. YES, I would date him. 👍
