The Smile Has Left Your Eyes Episode 15 Recap

The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (aka Hundred Million Stars From the Sky) Episode 15

While walking back from the pharmacy, Kim Moo Young (Seo In Guk) has a more complete memory of the day his father died. He recalls his sibling is a sister. He thinks of the picture of Jin Kook and Jin Kan. He stares at the photo of a young Jin Kan in his wallet. He finally puts the pieces of the puzzle together. He realizes Jin Kan is HIS SISTER!

Yoo Jin Kan (Jung So Min) waits for Moo Young to return from the pharmacy. She finds the burn medicine hanging on the door. She calls Moo Young.

Moo Young bangs on Executive Jang’s door. She opens it to find a sweaty and upset Moo Young. He demands she tell him the full truth. She counters that he already knows. Moo Young shakes her. Executive Jang confirms that Jin Kan is Moo Young’s biological younger sister. Stunned with the confirmation, Moo Young dazedly walks away. Executive Jang smiles with glee.

His worst fears confirmed and she enjoyed delivering the blow.

Jin Kan texts Moo Young she will wait for him until he comes home.

Moo Young walks dazed and distraught. He remembers happy romantic times with Jin Kan. He falls to the ground and cries.

Seo In Guk is doing an excellent job showing the anguish of this reveal.

Moo Young returns to the apartment. Jin Kan asks where he’s been. He asks her for the house key. She gives it to him. He tells her their relationship is finished. Jin Kan is shocked and asks if he wants to break up. He tells her to leave. Jin Kan stares at Moo Young’s stony face. She reminds him of the fun they’ve shared. She implores him to tell her what happened. Moo Young says she’s being dumped. He smirks. Jin Kan doesn’t believe it. She demands the truth that has hurt him. Moo Young repeats he’s dumping her. He says she’s just like Seung A. Jin Kan gets upset at the comparison. She leaves.

Of course, he had to revert to his cold former self to sell the breakup.

Inside his apartment, Moo Young sinks to the floor.

Jin Kan cries and walks away.

Moo Young cries and tries to handle the situation, it rips him up.

I feel his pain.

Jin Kan returns home. She lays on her bed and thinks about what Moo Young said to her.

Moo Young packs up Jin Kan’s belongings. He thinks about what Jin Kan said to him and how he responded. The next morning, he finds the picture of Jin Kan and himself. He removes the picture and puts it in his pocket. When he exits, he finds Jin Kan waiting for him. She declares he is lying to her. She reminds him of his promise not to lie to her. Moo Young coldly tells her to go to work. She yells at him to tell the truth. He walks away.

She knows he’s lying, but he won’t crack.

Moo Young goes to Executive Jang’s office and agrees to work for her. She’s thrilled. Moo Young meets with the planning team. Executive Jang watches from the hallway and tell her assistant she’s found the key to control Moo Young.

Moo Young returns from work and sees Jin Kan waiting for him. Instinctively he starts to take his coat off for warmth but stops himself. Jin Kan grabs his hand as he strides by. She begs him to tell her the truth. She reminds him they love each other. Moo Young pulls away and goes into his apartment locking the door. Jin Kan bangs on the door and cries. Moo Young tries to shut out her cries. She begs him not to do this. She begs him to open the door. Moo Young calls Jin Kook (Park Sung Woong) and tells him to come and get his sister.

Jin Kook finds Jin Kan outside Moo Young’s door. He tells her to get up. She refuses. He pulls her up and give her a piggyback home.

Moo Young cries in his apartment.

The next day Jin Kook thanks Moo Young for breaking up with Jin Kan. He scoffs he got tired of Jin Kan. He tells Jin Kook to keep Jin Kan away from him.

Executive Jang tells her assistant that Moo Young mistakenly believes that Jin Kan is his biological sister. With pride she declares she’s deceived him and now can control him. The assistant is surprised. Executive Jang is giddy recalling the despair in Moo Young’s eyes when she lied to him.

It’s a lie?

Jin Kook tends Jin Kan. He finds the family drawing Jin Kan took from Moo Young. Outside he stares at the drawing.

Flashback…Jin Kook stands in the house where he shot Moo Young’s father. Team Lead tells him they must go. Dazedly Jin Kook starts to walk away. He sees the family drawing on the floor. He picks it up. He cries. Later at the hospital he tucks the family drawing next to a sleeping Moo Young. He sees a little girl on a nearby bed. He covers her with a blanket.

Hmm, Evil Executive Jang implied the sibling connection was a lie but the flashback says otherwise.

Moo Young works hard but can’t get Jin Kan out of his head. As he leaves work, he finds Executive Jang waiting for him. She’s bought him a new car. Moo Young accepts the keys. Executive Jang suggests he move to a better place. Moo Young tells her she spends too much time hoping for what won’t be. She smiles and drives away.

Jin Kook drives quiet Jin Kan to work. She agrees to shop and make cod soup for dinner. Jin Kook smiles broadly. When she walks away Jin Kook looks worried.

When Jin Kan arrives at work, her co-worker tells her about Moo Young’s new job.

Bummed she goes outside to think. Moo Young spies her. When Jin Kan’s co-workers arrive, they stroll to lunch.

After work Moo Young and Jin Kan see each other when he exits the store. He asks why she’s acting dazed. He asks if she wants a ride in his new car. She walks away. He drives away watching her go in his rear-view mirror.

Jin Kan visits Psychiatrist Yang Kyung Mo (Yoo Jae Myung) and explains she wishes she could convince herself that Moo Young has reverted to the man he was before they dated. Dr. Yang explains that Moo Young was a sensitive child.

Flashback…Moo Young watches Dr. Yang fish day after day. Dr. Yang explains that he releases the fish so they can have their own dinner. Another day Moo Young shows Dr. Yang that the fish die after he releases him.

Dr. Yang says he gave up fishing once he realized he was hurting the fish. Dr. Yang shares that Moo Young told the nun at the orphanage that Jin Kan was someone Moo Young wanted to impress.

Jin Kan walks to where Moo Young works. Executive Jang comes up behind her and beckons her inside. Executive Jang says it is hard for the person that is dumped. She tells Jin Kan she knows a lot about the two of them. Moo Young arrives and sees the two of them talking. Executive Jang says that something happened between Moo Young and her brother 25 years ago. Moo Young interrupts. Executive Jang stands to leave. Moo Young says Executive Jang knows all about them.

On the bus, Jin Kan wonders why Executive Jang tells her to ask her brother what happened 25 years ago between her brother and Moo Young.

Jin Kan asks So Jung what happened 25 years ago between her brother and Moo Young. So Jung pretends she knows nothing. Jin Kan shocks So Jung by stating she knows she’s not Jin Kook’s biological sister. She shares she found out in high school. So Jung explains that Jin Kook doesn’t hate Moo Young but rather he’s apologetic and afraid. Jin Kan wants details. So Jung agrees to tell her but says this is only between Moo Young and Jin Kook. So Jung says Moo Young’s father was a criminal. Jin Kan knows this. So Jung explains that Jin Kook was the first officer at a crime scene. The rumor that Moo Young’s father committed suicide isn’t true rather Jin Kook killed him in self-defense. Jin Kan is shocked.

Moo Young drives Executive Jang home. She tells him that if he comes upstairs with her, she might tell him what she told Jin Kan. Moo Young agrees. Executive Jang explains that she told Jin Kan to find out what happened between Moo Young and her brother. Executive Jang also told Jin Kan is had to do with her. Moo Young isn’t happy with that. Moo Young realizes that Executive Jang is going to keep pushing this. Executive Jang agrees she won’t stop. Moo Young calls himself an idiot for coming to her for help. He tells her to leave Jin Kan and Jin Kook alone. He puts the car keys on the table. He starts to walk away. Executive Jang threatens to call Jin Kan with what she knows. Moo Young returns to the leaving room. Executive Jang can’t believe Moo Young really loved Jin Kan. This irritates Executive Jang. She picks up the phone and rehearses what she might say to Moo Young. She taunts him repeatedly. Moo Young finds the gun in the door and shoots Executive Jang dead. He stares at her lifeless body. He walks away.

Executive Jang was a despicable manipulator. Moo Young was right that she would never stop. But in shooting her, he just destroyed his life. Did he consider his life over anyhow if Jin Kan were to learn the truth?

The police learn that Executive Jang was killed. Jin Kan turns on the TV and learns the news. The CCTV clearly shows Moo Young leaving with a gun in his hand. Jin Kan drops to the floor.

Jin Kook rushes out of the police station. So Jung hears the knows while riding the bus. Jin Kook stops Jin Kan from leaving the apartment. She screams that Moo Young wouldn’t kill anyone that he isn’t that kind of person. She sobs in his arms.

So Jung and Jin Kook meet. She guesses that the gun Moo Young used is the one he held to Jin Kook. She wants him to protect himself.

Jin Kan runs to Moo Young’s apartment and see the police leaving with evidence. She sees the box of her items. She sees the empty picture frame and knows that Moo Young took it.

So Jung considers telling Jin Kook that Jin Kan knows she isn’t his biological sister but decides against it.

Moo Young calls Jin Kook. After Jin Kook hangs up, he hails a taxi. He heads to the temple with Moo Young’s father and mother’s marker. Moo Young is there. They approach each other.

My Thoughts

Moo Young’s deal with Executive Jang changes everything. Moo Young knowing that Jin Kan is his sister is the big deal. But making a deal with the devil (which is exactly what Executive Jang was) put Moo Young, Jin Kan, and Jin Kook into her orbit. Executive Jang considers everything and everyone her playthings to manipulate as she wishes. She wanted Moo Young. She realized he loved Jin Kan. She couldn’t take that truth. She threatened to tell Jin Kan. Moo Young couldn’t let that happen and shot her dead. Hard to care that a terrible person was killed but the ripple effects to Moo Young’s life boggle the mind. It is game over for Moo Young?

Kim Moo Young (Seo In Guk) had a terrible horrible dreadful episode. First, he learns the truth about Jin Kan. BUT Executive Jang tells her assistant she made up the detail that Jin Kan was his sister. Color me with a faint hope that it isn’t true. The flashback of Jin Kook visiting the burned Moo Young and his sibling in the hospital makes me believe it is true and Executive Jang guessed correctly. What gave me hope was the obvious pain Moo Young felt at breaking up with Jin Kan, how he still watched her, how he was mean to drive her away. But that hope died when Moo Young killed Executive Jang in cold blood. He can’t escape the consequences of this action.

Yoo Jin Kook (Park Sung Woong) retrieved his broken-hearted sister from Moo Young. Jin Kan’s anguish was palpable. Jin Kook was tender and kind. When Jin Kan learned Moo Young committed murder, she was almost nuclear with denial. Jin Kook tried to soothe her. Now So Jung knows that Jin Kan knows she’s adopted. She didn’t tell Jin Kook. Will she? Why did Moo Young want to meet Jin Kook at the temple? Is Jin Kook in danger of being killed by Moo Young?

One more episode to go. What is my Wishlist for the final episode?
* Moo Young must live even if he spends the rest of his life in prison. He started out a user but fell in love and changed. But the “truth” about Jin Kan changed everything. Backed into a corner to save his sister from learning the truth, he killed. I don’t want the police to kill Moo Young as they hunt him down. I can’t see Moo Young killing himself. At this point, having him survive this tragedy is what I want.

* Jin Kan finally tells Jin Kook she knows she’s adopted. This secret has gone on too long and must be revealed. I would prefer it that Jin Kan doesn’t find out that Moo Young is her brother. With Executive Jang dead can Jin Kan remain ignorant forever?

* Jin Kook finally confirms to Jin Kan they aren’t biologically related. Jin Kook carries guilt for both Moo Young and Jin Kan. He is the epitome of suffer in silence.

* Not siblings…I still hold out hope that Jin Kook and Jin Kan aren’t biologically related because Executive Jang stated she made that part up. Even if they aren’t siblings, Moo Young is doomed to prison or death, so they don’t have much of a future together. But I would prefer it if the incest were eliminated.

I rank this episode (on a scale from 1-10) as excellent. My episode ranking chart is below.

I was so DISGUSTED with the pleasure Executive Jang 💩 took in confirming Jin Kang 👧🎁 was Moo Young’s 👼🤔👿 sister … I think Executive Jang’s 💩 “confirmation” was a stab in the dark to ascertain the situation. Verification of the hypothesis, was THRILLING for the narcissistic chaebal.

I think Moo Young 👼🤔👿 tried to mitigate Jin Kang 👧🎁 realizing the horrific truth of them being siblings; hurting her with his cold and aloof demeanor, which was his best tool to accomplish the task.

Even though it would be painful to come to the knowledge that your lover is your brother Jin Kang 👧🎁 deserves to know the truth. It just feels like there is no way out for these two. Whether or not Jin Kang 👧🎁 becomes aware of their familial relationship, they CANNOT continue a romantic relationship, could they transition to a sibling relationship❓⁉️ … it just seems to be too awkward.

OMO, OMO, OMO … Moo Young 👼🤔👿 warned Executive Jang 💩 up front about not messing with him, he doesn’t make empty threats. Executive Jang 💩 took great pleasure in playing with Jin Kang 👧🎁, she just couldn’t stop playing games with Jin Kang 👧🎁 and Moo Young 👼🤔👿 was compelled to protect Jin Kang 👧🎁 from learning the awful truth, no matter what … I think Moo Young 👼🤔👿 made the visit to ascertain what had been told to Jin Kang 👧🎁 and then warn against divulging any further information. I wonder why Moo Young 👼🤔👿 allowed himself to be caught on CCTV, especially with the gun 🔫 when he had been so careful in the incident with using Yoo Ri ⚜️.

“Executive Jang [💩] was a despicable manipulator. Moo Young was right that she would never stop. But in shooting her, he just destroyed his life. Did he consider his life over anyhow if Jin Kan were to learn the truth?” -KJT

I concur that Executive Jang 💩 would not have stopped. I don’t think Moo Young 👼🤔👿 considered himself AT ALL, he was all about protecting Jin Kang 👧🎁 from learning they were siblings. In earlier episodes he stated he didn’t care what other people thought of him and he indicated he would have been fine dying in the car 🚗💢 accident if he got his revenge against Woo Sang 🤴💩.

I’m not sure why So Jung 👮‍♀️ didn’t reveal to Jin Gook 👮 that Jin Kang 👧🎁 is aware she was adopted. Maybe I’m being optimistic but I don’t think Moo Young 👼🤔👿 will take any lethal action against Jin Gook 👮‍♂️ as the officer was doing his job AND more importantly he doesn’t want to cause any more pain for Jin Kang 👧🎁.

I’m afraid Moo Young 👼🤔👿 isn’t long for this world … will he be gunned down by the police 🚔 or will he kill himself (which I think he would consider if he thought it would mitigate her anguish)❓⁉️

Is there anyway to turn this around❓⁉️ I keep hoping that they might be siblings by marriage and not by biology, but that doesn’t mitigate the fact that Moo Young 👼🤔👿 just committed murder❗ Who or what does the angel in Moo Young’s 👼🤔👿 drawing represent❓⁉️

I concur with your wish list KJT and also believe that eliminating incest is best❗

Yep, she was a piece of work. Her brother looked like a saint in comparison.

Yep, leading men not thinking of themselves first has happened before (Mr. Sunshine). But did you think that Moo Young would evolve to that point considering the self centered start he had in this series?

He’s in a bind he can’t get out of IMO, let’s see how the writer pens the final episode. Will all our questions be answered? Will we be satisfied with the final act?

“But did you think that Moo Young would evolve to that point considering the self centered start he had in this series?” -KJT

No, I did not think we would see Moo Young 👼🤔👿 move this far past his self centered start. Jin Kang 👧🎁 truly inspired him to be a better person … no one else gave him that expectation to live up to before.
