The Smile Has Left Your Eyes Episode 11 Recap

The Smile Has Left Your Eyes (aka Hundred Million Stars From the Sky) Episode 11

Tak So Jung (Jang Young Nam) handles the confession that Yoo Jin Kook (Park Sung Woong) killed the criminal 25 years ago. She points out that if Jin Kook hadn’t lost the boy years ago, his adopted sister, Jin Kan, wouldn’t be in his life today. Jin Kook recalls how the orphaned Jin Kan was fearful and shy. He smiles at the memory of her holding his finger when he woke from a nap.

After making love Kim Moo Young (Seo In Guk) asks Yoo Jin Kan (Jung So Min) when she knew that she was adopted and not Jin Kook’s biological sister. Jin Kan explains she figured it out when she was a girl. She admits she struggled with the truth but decided to keep the secret for Jin Kook’s sake. She teases Moo Young that was adorable as a girl. Moo Young teases that she’s shameless. Jin Kan agrees. They kiss.

I really like the vibe of this couple. They are honest with each other. I don’t think Moo Young can stay like this forever, so I’m savoring their happiness.

Jin Kook is dismayed to learn Jin Kan and Moo Young are most likely together. So Jung is surprised by the news. Jin Kook worries for his sister. When Jin Kook arrives home, he finds Jin Kan’s bedroom empty.

When Moo Young and Jin Kan arrive back in the neighborhood, they are loathe to say goodbye to each other.

When Jin Kan enters the apartment, Jin Kook exits his home. He reveals he knows she lied about her whereabouts. Jin Kan admits she spent the day with Moo Young. She confesses she likes Moo Young. Jin Kook yells at her calling her crazy to get involved with a guy like that and reminds her of her promise not to see Moo Young. Jin Kook says Cho Rong is a better man than Moo Young. Jin Kan doesn’t understand why Jin Kook isn’t willing to hear her opinion. She starts to walk away. Jin Kook grabs her a pleads with her to stop. He doesn’t understand why she’s being rebellious now when she was the perfect sister for so long. Jin Kan cries that she’s lived with the pain and shame of being her brother’s burden. Upset, Jin Kook tells her she’s wrong. But Jin Kan doesn’t believe him and walks into her bedroom. She cries. Jin Kook reels with the revelation.

Jin Kook learns when Moo Young will be interrogated from Officer Hwang Gun. The team lead tells Jin Kook to stay out of it. Jin Kook snaps at the team lead. The team stares at him in shock.

Cho Rong asks So Jung why Jin Kook is acting strangely. She tells him she’s story the romance with Jin Kan didn’t work out. She goes to find Jin Kook.

At work, Moo Young texts Jin Kan to send the cute photo of herself as a girl. So Jung calls and asks to meet.

Jin Kan admits that she was in the country yesterday and not working. She confesses to hurting Jin Kook by asking him to stop bragging about what a good person she is. So Jung says Jin Kook is hurt. She sees Jin Kan’s worry about her brother. She assures her that Jin Kook will get over it. Jin Kan can’t forgive herself for her words to her brother. Switching gears, Jin Kan admits she doesn’t understand why her brother hates Moo Young. She asks is So Jung knows why.

After his interrogation Officer Hwang Gun warns Moo Young not to switch times when the prosecutor’s office schedules their interrogation. Jin Kook isn’t at his desk. Moo Young spots a recruitment poster when he exits. Then he sees Jin Kook waiting for him. Jin Kook isn’t happy that Moo Young ignored his warning not to see his sister. Moo Young points to the recruitment poster and claims to be interested. Jin Kook cuttingly states that murderers need not apply. Jin Kook declares that Moo Young had a hand in Seung A’s death and Yu Ri’s behavior too. He warns Moo Young to stay away from his sister because he’s not worthy. Moo Young covers his hurt and says he’ll stop trying to win Jin Kook’s approval because he doesn’t need it. Jin Kook says he’ll do anything to keep his sister safe. He steps close and promises he’ll be watching. Moo Young shrugs and states it won’t change anything.

Jin Kook’s so sure that Moo Young is evil. I’m on the edge waiting for something to push Moo Young back into his previous behavior. I don’t think Jin Kook did it there. Moo Young’s bravo hides his pain.

Jin Kan replays So Jung’s recommendation that she break up with Moo Young. Can Jin Kan ignore that both Jin Kook and So Jung don’t like Moo Young? When Moo Young arrives, they join hands, they eat. Jin Kan admits that Jin Kook is upset. Moo Young declares this is too complicated and begins to push Jin Kan away. He claims he doesn’t care what her brother thinks of him because rejection is commonplace in his life. Upset, Jin Kan cries that Moo Young knows how important Jin Kook is to her. She wipes a tear and says she’s leaving. Moo Young urges her to go.

Folks, that was practically selfless by Moo Young (stupid but selfless).

Moo Young realizes he’s blown it and rushes out after Jin Kan. He runs to her apartment. He calls her. She doesn’t answer.

When he returns to his apartment, Jin Kan is there. She calls him a liar and declares she won’t give up on them. Relieved, Moo Young hugs her. They hug, relieved they are still intact. Moo Young admits he ran to her house to recant his lie. Jin Kan chides him not to do that again. Moo Young promises and carries her into his apartment.

They are all smiles. Jin Kan tells him that it is time to turn his apartment into a home but won’t share how she’ll accomplish it.

When Jin Kan returns home, Jin Kook is asleep in his home.

They next morning Jin Kook and Jin Kan start to mend fences over breakfast. But when Jin Kan asks Jin Kook to let her explore her relationship with Moo Young, he leaves the apartment.

Jin Kook tells So Jung that Jin Kan won’t break up with Moo Young. So Jung worries that Jin Kan knows she’s not really Jin Kook’s biological sister.

Jin Kook visits Im Yu Ri (Go Min Si) in prison asking her to clarify what she meant by Jin Kan knowing she was an orphan. Yu Ri claims that Jin Kan said without living parents and her sister emigrated it was only Jin Kook growing up. Relieved Jin Kook lies he actually came to see Yu Ri. The both laugh. Yu Ri tells Jin Kook that if Jin Kan and Moo Young are dating, Moo Young has the power in the relationship, not Jin Kan. Jin Kook doesn’t like the sound of that.

Jin Kan takes Moo Young to a store to purchase items to make his apartment more of a home.

At the prison, Psychiatrist Doctor Yang Kyung Mo (Yoo Jae Myung) learns Yu Ri has already had a visitor today and cannot have another. When Jin Kan exits the prison, the two men recognize each other. They chat. Jin Kook says that Moo Young is the accomplice that destroyed the evidence. That gets Doctor Yang’s attention. Though Jin Kook presses, Doctor Yang won’t give details and leaves.

Moo Young is horrified when Jin Kan adds a cute stuffed animal to the teeming shopping cart.

Doctor Yang watches the footage of Moo Young coming to the police station. He recalls a young boy watching him years ago. He wonders if the boy and Moo Young are one in the same.

Moo Young stares at the picture of Jin Kan and her brother she puts in the stuffed animal’s pocket. He remembers assuring Jin Kan she was a cute child. Moo Young realizes the picture’s location is the hospital he remembers walking near as a child.

Doctor Yang comes to the police station to speak with Jin Kook. They chat. Doctor Yang admits the boy in the second chapter of his book is Moo Young. They are both unsure what to make of the fact that Moo Young lived in the same town they did many years ago. Doctor Yang can’t reconcile Jin Kook’s claim that Moo Young was involved in the murder Yu Ri committed. He admits if that’s true, the decision he made years ago was wrong.

So Jung recognizes Doctor Yang as he drives away. She tells Jin Kook the doctor is famous. Jin Kook explains that Doctor Yang was concerned about Moo Young and Yu Ri. Jin Kook assures So Jung that based on what Yu Ri said, that Jin Kan doesn’t know they aren’t biologically related. Jin Kook is firm that Jin Kan must never know. So Jung doesn’t understand why Jin Kook is so sensitive and can’t reveal the truth. Jin Kook admits that Moo Young makes him feel that everything could implode and ruin Jin Kan’s life.

Moo Young’s coworker catches him studying party menus.

Moo Young finds himself at the supermarket purchasing items for a housewarming party. Jin Kan smiles when Moo Young text about the wine option. Also at the supermarket, Jin Kook calls and asks Jin Kan to have dinner. She declines claiming she has to work late. Jin Kook spies Moo Young shopping and turns away but Moo Young sees him. Both men check out at the same time. Jin Kook walks by Moo Young without saying a word. Jin Kook watches Moo Young leave the supermarket and worries about Yu Ri’s prediction that Jin Kan is powerless with Moo Young.

Jin Kan arrives at Moo Young’s apartment with housewarming gifts. She’s impressed at the food that Moo Young has made. She coos to the stuffed animal and notices the picture is gone.

Jin Kook eats alone.

Moo Young shows Jin Kan he’s placed her picture in his wallet. Jin Kan is pleased. She explains the location of the picture is her hometown hospital. That gets Moo Young’s attention. He wonders if he was once at the hospital. Jin Kan wonders if Moo Young was treated at the hospital for burns like she was. The food is a triumph. They laugh and enjoy each other. A grim faced Jin Kook watches through the window.

He looks like a creepy stalker.

Moo Young realizes he didn’t purchase a wine opener and dashes out to purchase one (ignoring Jin Kan’s protests not to bother).

Moo Young spies Jin Kook across the street. Smirking he strides past Jin Kook in the crosswalk. Jin Kook bumps into Moo Young and stabs him! We see the knife in Jin Kook’s hand!

Moo Young falls to the ground and sees the blood seeping through the knife wound.

Jin Kook stares at the prone Moo Young.

Jin Kan waits for Moo Young to return.

Moo Young loses consciousness.

My Thoughts

Questions, I’ve got questions. The mystery of this show lies in the past.  What is the connection between Moo Young and Jin Kan? What is Doctor Yang not telling?

Kim Moo Young (Seo In Guk) got stabbed. The tables have turned and now Moo Young is the victim. Jin Kook’s obsession with saving Jin Kan from Moo Young pushed him to stab Moo Young. That was premeditated. Will Moo Young figure out his past?

Yoo Jin Kook (Park Sung Woong) decided any action was acceptable to remove Moo Young from Jin Kan’s life. I was surprised when he stabbed Moo Young. Jim Kook was a creepy stalker watching at Moo Young’s window. It made me uncomfortable.  Why is Jin Kook so adamant that Jin Kan must get Moo Young out of her life?

I rank this episode (on a scale from 1-10) as terrific. My episode ranking chart is below.

  1. Jane Tilly says:

Jin Gook 👮 was still unaware Jin Kang 👧🎁 KNOWS she’s adopted; Jin Gook’s best bet of having Jin Kang 👧🎁 listening to him would be to give her logical explanation of why he is against her relationship with Moo Young 👼🤔👿. I’m not saying it would work on the mezmerized Jin Kang 👧🎁. I just don’t understand why Jin Gook insists on keeping her in the dark about her parentage. Anything would-be better than denegrating Moo Young 👼🤔👿 to the woman who loves him; that will only drive her into Moo Young’s 👼🤔👿 arms.

I’d rather hear a hard truth than have my brother expect me to blindly follow him. Why is Jin Gook 👮 so adamant about Jin Kang 👧🎁 not knowing she is an orphan and against her developing a relationship with Moo Young 👼🤔👿❓⁉️

It seems Moo Young 👼🤔👿 is starting to live a normal life courtesy of Jin Kang’s 👧🎁 efforts. As much as I don’t want Jin Kang 👧🎁 to be Moo Young’s 👼🤔👿 bio sibling, I’m afraid it’s what makes the most sense with the information and flashbacks so far. I suspected a biological connection between this couple BEFORE I read about the Japanese version of this story that has the lovers being biological siblings.

Now we need to know what was Dr Yang’s decision about Moo Young 👼🤔👿.

How desperate was Jin Gook 👮 that he stabbed Moo Young 👼🤔👿 rather than disclose the truth❓⁉️

It’s time ⌚ to reveal secrets of the past.

    • I’d rather hear a hard truth than have my brother expect me to blindly follow him.
Remember how SA said that Moo Young let her be herself or something like that? He offers the same to Jin Kang while Jin Gook lays down the law and guarantees that Jin Kang will rebel.

in Kang 👧🎁 to be Moo Young’s 👼🤔👿 bio sibling
I just don’t want to go there. I like this couple. I’d rather have them split up for some other reason than incest.

How desperate was Jin Gook 👮 that he stabbed Moo Young 👼🤔👿 rather than disclose the truth❓⁉️
i hated the peeping through the window and the stabbing (without remorse?) made Jin Gook go DOWN in status. Is Moo Young a better person (with Jin Kang in his life) than Jin Gook?

      • Jane Tilly says:

I concur that Jin Gook 👮 laying down the law pretty much ensures rebellion in Jin Kang 👧🎁. I think Jin Gook 👮 didn’t stab to kill Moo Young 👼🤔👿, he was relying on social mores to compel Jin Kang 👧🎁 to stop seeing Moo Young 👼🤔👿 due to her brother’s action (Asian guilt, by familial association).

I agree about not wanting our couple’s relationship to be incestuous, but what else would have caused Jin Gook 👮 to take such violent action?

I concur that esteem of Jin Gook 👮 has been lowered by his stalking and violent action. A logical explanation to Jin Kang 👧🎁 of his fears would go much further in convincing her to stay away from Moo Young 👼🤔👿. If an earnest truth didn’t convince her, nothing would … then oppa would not have tainted his character by stooping to spying and violence.

“Is Moo Young a better person (with Jin Kang in his life) than Jin Gook?” -KJT. I don’t think we have enough information to make that judgement … yet. Moo Young 👼🤔👿 has a history of using others to mortally retaliate against those who he deemed to have wronged him:
        A) manipulating Yoo Ri ⚜️ to kill to college student who dissed him.
        B) manipulating Seung Ah 🏺 to cause an accident that was fatal for her and Woo Sang 🤴💩, who dissed him.
If Moo Young 👼🤔👿 seeks revenge on Jin Gook 👮, then he is no better Jin Gook 👮. Time will tell.

        • A logical explanation to Jin Kang 👧🎁 of his fears would go much further in convincing her to stay away from Moo Young 👼🤔👿.
I was explaining this show to a friend and they commented that secrets are big plot drivers. Yet they always get revealed.

If Moo Young 👼🤔👿 seeks revenge on Jin Gook 👮, then he is no better Jin Gook 👮. Time will tell.
          I agree with that.
