2018 In Review – Secondary Leading Ladies – Best to Worst

Looking back at the secondary leading ladies of the series I blogged in 2018, I decided to assign an empirical score. How did they rack and stack?

Money Flower Jung Mal Ran (Lee Mi Sook) 8.5
Lawless Lawyer Judge Cha Moon Sook (Lee Hye Young) 8
Mr. Sunshine Hee Na (Kim Min Jung) 8
Bad Papa Yoo Young Sun (Shin Eun Soo) 7.5
Criminal Minds Na Na Hwang (Yoo Sun) 7.5
Great Seducer Choi Soo-Ji (Moon Ga Young) 7.5
Hwayugi Bong Soon / Asanyeo (Lee Se Young) 7.5
Mystery Queen 2 Kim Kyung Mi(Kim Hyun Sook) 7
Sketch Oh Young Sim (Lim Hwa Young) 7
Wok of Love Chae Seol Ja (Park Ji Young) 7

What did I consider salient points about each secondary leading ladies?
* Money Flower – Jung Mal Ran (Lee Mi Sook) – Manipulative master that would stop at nothing to promote her son in the family
* Lawless Lawyer – Judge Cha Moon Sook (Lee Hye Young) – Villain who seemed to be untouchable, Believed she deserved unfailing loyalty, used her power for her personal profit
* Mr. Sunshine – Hee Na (Kim Min Jung) – Independent, moxy, smart, supported the fight against the Japanese, not emotionally warm
* Bad Papa – Yoo Young Sun (Shin Eun Soo) – Wife emotionally distant from her husband but fought for her family
* Criminal Minds – Na Na Hwang (Yoo Sun) – Computer genius with a heart, team player, supportive
* Great Seducer – Choi Soo-Ji (Moon Ga Young) – Mean girl with little redeeming value, queen bee of the trio that used and abused at her whims
* Hwayugi – Bong Soon / Asanyeo (Lee Se Young) – Sweet undead girl that turned evil when inhabited by a spirit that knew how to pursue her own agenda
* Mystery Queen 2 – Kim Kyung Mi(Kim Hyun Sook) – Supportive friend, pursued her own path of becoming a police officer
* Sketch – Oh Young Sim (Lim Hwa Young)– Computer wiz with a heart, team player, supportive
* Wok of Love – Chae Seol Ja (Park Ji Young) – Cook with expert knife skills, deferential to former employer, pursued relationship with gangster willing to change for her

One of the things I noticed about this list was the 2 of the female leads were full-blown antagonists, whereas the make secondary leads has only 1 full-blown antagonist.

Money Flower’s Jung Mal Ran ✋ and Lawless Lawyer’s Judge Cha Moon Sook 👩‍⚖️ were BOTH powerful evil villainess, that we loved to hate❣️ Both actresses did an EXCELLENT JOB of protraying evil antagonists.

Lee Se Young did a good job in Hwayugi portraying BOTH the pitiful, but loved, Bong Soon (Bu Ja) 🚶‍♀️💀 and despised Asanyeo 🌹.

I 💗 Mr Sunshine’s Hee Na 👘, who was initially ambiguous about her politics, but was revealed as a true Korean patriot❣️ Hee Na 👘 overcame so many hardships and had the most varied and overall BEST WARDROBE❣️

I think all the characters on this list made significant contributions to their dramas.

    • all the characters on this list made significant contributions to their dramas
Yes they did. The villains provided much needed antagonists delivered by skilled actresses.

Hee Na 👘 overcame so many hardships and had the most varied and overall BEST WARDROBE
Agreed, that era clothing was flattering to the actress. Plus I liked how Hee Na got over Eugene and didn’t moon for him nor hate Go Ae Shin having won Eugene’s heart.

Isn’t Shin Eun Soo the leading lady in Bad Papa?

    • I did take liberties with that. I felt that the daughter was more important than the mother, so I swapped the supporting / lead actress for these two. Technically that wasn’t correct, but it was the way I viewed it.
