2018 In Review – Leading Men – Best to Worst

2018 In Review – Leading Men – Best to Worst

Looking back at the leading men of the series I blogged in 2018, I decided to assign an empirical score. How did they rack and stack?

Mr. Sunshine Eugene Choi (Lee Byung Hun) 9.0
Hwayugi Son Oh Gong (Lee Seung Gi) 9.0
Money Flower Pil Joo (Jang Hyuk) 8.5
Lawless Lawyer Bong Sang Pil (Lee Joon Gi) 8.5
Sketch Kang Dong Soo (Rain) 8.0
Bad Papa Yoo Ji Cheol (Jang Hyuk) 8.0
Wok of Love Seo Poong (Lee Joon Ho) 7.0
Great Seducer Kwon Shi Hyun (Woo Do Hwan) 7.0
Criminal Minds Kim Hyun Joon (Lee Joon Gi) 7.0
Mystery Queen 2 Ha Wan Seung (Kwon Sang Woo) 7.0

What did I consider salient points about each leading man?
* Mr. Sunshine – Eugene Choi (Lee Byung Hun) – Supportive, bold, subtle humor, emotionally available
* Hwayugi  – Son Oh Gong (Lee Seung Gi) – Passionate, loyal (once given), humor, emotionally available
* Money Flower – Pil Joo (Jang Hyuk) – Smart, strategic, not emotionally available
* Lawless Lawyer – Bong Sang Pil (Lee Joon Gi) – Smart, strategic, fighter, street smart, loyal
* Sketch – Kang Dong Soo (Rain) – Smart, funny, street smart, fighter, not emotionally available
* Bad Papa – Yoo Ji Cheol (Jang Hyuk) – Fighter, withdrawn emotionally except for his daughter
* Wok of Love – Seo Poong (Lee Joon Ho) – Chef, passionate about food
* Great Seducer – Kwon Shi Hyun (Woo Do Hwan) – Manipulative, worked to become a better person
* Criminal Minds – Kim Hyun Joon (Lee Joon Gi) – Smart, fighter, street smart, loyal, risky profession (cop)
* Mystery Queen 2 – Ha Wan Seung (Kwon Sang Woo) – Street smart, supportive friend, risky profession (cop)

KJT, thanks for adding this fun review of leading men. I think you succinctly highlighted the salient points of these leading men. The only thing I would add was * Criminal Minds – Kim Hyun Joon (Lee Joon Gi) – his athleticism enabled him to run like there was no tommorow…Run 🏃 Forrest-ERR Hyun Joon, Run 🏃❗ Didn’t you suggest a drinking 🍸 game for when LJG ran❓⁉️

I thought it was amazing Jang Hyuk had THREE drama roles last year. I wonder how many roles he will have this year.

If you had a “Would I Date Him” playoff with this list of characters, I would select Eugene Choi 🎖️ as the grand winner (although wouldn’t I REALLY be the grand prize winner) with a close runners up of Son Oh Gong 🐒 and Bong Sang Pil 💼👊. As much as I 💗 Jang Hyuk, his characters on this list had all kinds of red 🚨 flags screaming ✳️JUST SAY NO❗✳️ On the other hand, his Chil Seung 🕶️💛 character in “Wok of Love” was very sweet and dateable.

2018 was a good year for leading men❣️

I agree with these rankings, except, I would give RainOppa more credit. He managed to be the typical cynical detective we expect in shows like this, yet he never condescends to his female partner. I agree the only problem is he’s emotionally unavailable and that’s also a plus as who would want a guy that could move on from his fiancé’s death immediately? His character is the full package and I hope for a Seaspn 2 when he’s might be ready for romance with his partner Lee Sun bin.
Btw, did you guys hear she’s dating Lee Kwang Soo, The Giraffe from Running Man?

BTW, to KJT and the Crew – HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    • Beez, great to hear from you!

I would give RainOppa more credit. He managed to be the typical cynical detective we expect in shows like this, yet he never condescends to his female partner.

I loved Rain AND the character Dong Soo too. I loved how he respected his finance and his partner. A male character that treats women as an equal is a delight in the kdrama landscape. It certainly scored Eugene Choi big points with me. He respected women and was a man before his time.

      Happy New Year🥂!

Rain oppa did do a great job❣️

I did hear about Lee Sun Bin and Lee Gwang Soo. You never know if these are true … However, I ALWAYS hope for happiness ❣️

I wouldn’t a second season, provided it was well done…Queen of Mystery was an example of a great 1st which fizzled out with the second.
