Wok of Love Episodes 31-32

Wok of Love Episode 31

Sae Woo (Jung Ryeo Won) admits she loves Seo Poong. Hoping to hear the same three little words back, Sae Woo is surprised when Seo Poong (Lee Joon Ho) says “I know everything”. He says he knows who her family is and that they conspired to work together at the eatery while hiding their connection to each other. Chae Seol Ja (Park Ji Young) can’t believe what she’s hearing and reacts. Sae Woo and Seo Poong spin around. Seol Ja and Maeng Dal reveal themselves. Seo Poong tells Sae Woo they should continue the conversation. Maeng Dal asks if they really are family. Seol Ja frets. Maeng Dal takes the guys out of the eatery so Sae Woo, Seo Poong, and Seol Ja can talk in private.

Seo Poong explains he found Sae Woo’s wedding invitation last night. Each of them discusses the lies they’ve perpetrated. In the end Seol Ja declares the Sae Woo’s mother will never accept Seo Poong, so they should break up. She leaves. Seo Poong offers to drive Sae Woo home. Sae Woo apologizes for her lies. Seo Poong asks where was the house she pretended was hers. Sae Woo admits it was where she lived with her former husband. Seo Poong tells her to come close. He hugs her. He asks if there are any other lies. He knows lying must have been hard for her. They hug. Seol Ja isn’t excited to find them hugging. She pulls them apart. Seol Ja tells Seo Poong he better looks for a new kitchen staff.

Seo Poong drives Sae Woo and Seol Ja home.  Seol Ja pulls Sae Woo out of Seo Poong’s handhold and into the house.

Seol Ja chides Sae Woo for getting involved with Seo Poong. An even bigger sin is Sae Woo’s saying I love you first. Sae Woo counters that she had to admits she loved him due to the lies. Sae Woo asks if Seol Ja is dating Maeng Dal. Seol Ja claims she’ll break up with Maeng Dal if Sae Woo will break up with Seo Poong. Sae Woo suggests Seol Ja can help win mother to accept Seo Poong.

Sae Woo leads the protesters to the front of the hotel. They stride into the lobby. Chil Seong orders them to set up. The hotel security asks what they are doing. Chil Seong tells security to get CEO Yong.

CEO Yong’s thug reports that Chil Seong is protesting in the lobby. CEO Yong Seung Ryong (Kim Sa Kwon) is not happy. The thug reports they are also protesting not getting new work.  The thug declares this isn’t good for business. He recommends CEO Yong purchase the protest rights from Chil Seong. He reminds CEO Yong of the option to get rid of Chil Seong. Desperate CEO Yong agrees. His thug makes a call.

The protesters tell all that pass they’ve not been paid. Maeng Dal learns that someone wants to by finishing touch (hotel eatery) for $3M. Maeng Dal guesses selling the hotel eatery will raise the necessary cash to purchase the protest rights. Doo Chil Seong (Jang Hyuk) declares he needs the hotel eatery to be part of the hotel when he takes it over. He strides away.

Seo Poong rings the doorbell. Im Geok Jung (Tae Hang Ho) can’t believe his eyes. Everyone is shocked with Seo Poong walks in the front door. He declares he waited all night. He calls Jeong Hae mother. She flinches.

CEO Yong confirms he’s selling the hotel eatery. Chil Seong suggest a head-to-head battle between the chefs. If Seo Poong loses, Chil Seong will give up the $3M protest rights. That gets CEO Yong’s attention. If Seo Poong wins, CEO Yong will give up the hotel eatery. CEO Yong’s counteroffer is if Seo Poong loses, Chil Seong will give up the protest rights AND close Seo Poong’s eatery. Should Seo Poong win, Chil Seong gets the hotel eatery free and clear. Chil Seong declares he has absolute faith in Seo Poong. CEO Yong asks Chil Seong to leave the lobby. Chil Seong agrees to a truce.

Seol Ja tells Jin Jeong Hae (Lee Mi Sook) and Geok Jung that Seo Poong knows about their connection. Jeong Hae doesn’t understand why Seo Poong called her mother. Seo Poong declares he likes Sae Woo who smiles broadly at the declaration. Seo Poong is clear that he’ll date Sae Woo until Sae Woo sends him away. He promises resistance will only increase his ardor.  Seo Poong goes into chef mode and tells them all to arrive on time for working including Jeong Hae.

Go big or go home was Seo Poong’s morning motto!

Sae Woo follows Seo Poong outside and tells him he did well. They agree to work hard at the eatery and hope they have customers.

Chil Seong tells his protest team to pack up. He calls Seo Poong.

Jeong Hae tells Seol Ja, Geok Jung, and Sae Woo if they go to the eatery they have to leave the house. Sae Woo says she was the one that pursued Seo Poong. Jeong Hae doesn’t want to hear it.

The eatery is packed with customers. Chil Seong is server extraordinaire. The vet and her friends show! Chil Seong doesn’t remember the vet. She gets irked when he doesn’t remember their previous two interactions. Chil Seong doesn’t understand why she’s irked. She tells him to remember her. She’s Lee Ji Gyeong, a vet at the clinic he brought his kitten. Chil Seong says her name, says he’s busy and strides away.

At least he repeated her name! Dude, she’s cute and interested!

Maeng Dal wishes Seol Ja and Geok Jung were in the kitchen as the staff is pressed to keep up with the orders.

At the end of a long day, Seo Poong sits outside the eatery. Chil Seong joins him with two cold beers. Chil Seong explains that Seo Poong will be going head to head with Chef Wang. Chil Seong says if they lose they’ll have to move to the countryside to open another eatery. Seo Poong isn’t happy that Chil Seong risked too much. He says he’s happy and can’t live with the guilt if he loses. Chil Seong reminds Seo Poong that being the chef at the hotel eatery was once his goal. Now is not the time to run from that goal. Seo Poong points out the stakes are too high. Chil Seong tells him to man up. Seo Poong worries that if he loses, their friendship is over. Seo Poong doesn’t want their friendship to dissolve. Chil Seong if that’s the attitude Sae Woo would want him to have. That gets Seo Poong’s attention. Chil Seong confirms he knows that Seo Poong and Sae Woo are dating. Seo Poong stares at his friend and agrees to the competition. Chil Seong is pleased. Seo Poong says he’ll do it because Chil Seong asked him to. Chil Seong believes Sae Woo would want him to do compete. Seo Poong counters that Sae Woo likes him as he is working were he is. Chil Seong nods and jokes that Seo Poong is annoying. He tells Seo Poong they’ve rolled the dice. Seo Poong says Chil Seong’s faith in him is what matters.

Chil Seong pointed out that Seo Poong being the chef in the hotel’s eatery was a long-standing goal and Seo Poong should embrace the contest to obtain that goal. Seo Poong pointed out that goal was no longer valid but he’d do it because his friend asked him to. Both men thought of each other when they agreed to the contest. Nice!

Wok of Love Episode 32

Seo Poong enters the hotel’s kitchen. Chef Wang calls him a punk. Seo Poong counters CEO Yong’s mismanagement created the problem. Chef Wang and Seo Poong negotiate the terms of the competition. They agree this is a winner takes the eatery contest.

Chil Seong and Seo Poong grab a sandwich together. Chil Seong says the team misses her at work. Chil Seong says her father may be released soon. He shares he visited her father in jail. That surprises her. Chil Seong says he found a witness that may change her father’s incarceration status. Chil Seong admits he won’t need to look out for Sae Woo when her father gets out of jail. Seo Poong is shocked and grateful. Chil Seong warns her not to share the news until it’s real. Grateful Sae Woo hugs him. Chil Seong doesn’t hug her back (though he wants to). Sae Woo thanks him again.

Chil Seong is almost too cool for school in that scene until the hug. Then you see he still wants to touch her but cannot because she’s no longer a possibility.

Chil Seong pursues the market for fresh ingredients.

Sae Woo is giddy with the possibility of her father’s release.

She literally jumps into Seo Poong’s arms when she arrives at the eatery. Seo Poong is surprised at her enthusiastic greeting. Glowing Sae Woo declares her father may get out of jail soon. Seo Poong is happy for her. They smile then melt into a kiss.

Nice to see the lead couple happy and kissing!

Sae Woo and Seo Poong hang with the kitten outside. Sae Woo asks how the kitchen managed without Seol Ja, Geok Jung, and herself. Seo Poong says they simplified the menu. Sae Woo explains her mother threatened to kick them out of the house if they worked at the eatery. Seo Poong explains that he’s got a showdown with Chef Wang and he needs Seol Ja and her to win. He gives the contest details. Sae Woo is worried that Seo Poong won’t have the help he needs with her mother’s ultimatum. Maeng Dal spies them talking and isn’t happy that Seol Ja didn’t come with Sae Woo.

Sae Woo’s mother where Sae Woo and Seol Ja are.

Seol Ja arrives at the eatery looking for Maeng Dal. He’s thrilled to see her.  She admits if Sae Woo’s mother won’t be happy if she finds out she came.

She’s startled when Seo Poong and Sae Woo are waiting in the kitchen. She isn’t happy at being tricked. Maeng Dal says the eatery is on the line with the face off against the hotel’s team. She declares she doesn’t work for this eatery. Sae Woo explains the advantages if they win. Seo Poong asks Seol Ja to help them win. Seol Ja doesn’t want to lose her home. Seo Poong shows her what he plans to cook. Seol Ja understands the challenge. She can’t resist showing the proper way to quickly shell the lobster and reconstruct it to look whole. Everyone is impressed. Seo Poong says the competition is in 4 days. He asks Seol Ja to help him. Sae Woo pleads with Seol Ja to help. Maeng Dal nods his agreement to the request.

What will she do?

Chil Seong tells his men there is a buyer for the building. When one of them asks why they haven’t seen Chil Seong’s mother in a while, Chil Seong muses that being a mother of a gangster must be harder than expected. Maeng Dal wishes she would come. Chil Seong stares at his father’s trophy.

Chil Seong goes to his mother’s apartment. He finds a note. She writes she’s going on a trip and will return. She tells him to eat well while she’s gone.

I like that Chil Seong reached out to his mother who kept her word to stay away. I liked that she knew he’d reach out and left him a note so he wouldn’t worry.

Everyone arrives for the competition. Seo Poong checks the ingredients. Seo Poong is sure Seol Ja and Sae Woo will show. Chil Seong, his men and Seo Poong enter the hotel.

Sae Woo’s mother refuses to let Sae Woo, Seol Ja, and Geok Jung leave.

Seo Poong and the team arrive. Chef Wang and his team are waiting. Seo Poong says his ingredient is lobster. Chef Wang says his ingredient pork belly. Chef Wang asks where Seol Ja and Geok Jung are. He says they’ll be there shortly.

CEO Yong’s thug and his men wait outside the house to snatch the women as they exit. Maeng Dal shows up and puts Sae Woo and Seol Ja in the car. The thugs follow.

The lobster breaks down begins. Chef Wang chats while he breaks down the lobsters. Seo Poong works alone.

Sae Woo’s mother doesn’t know where Seol Ja and Sae Woo are. She sends Geok Jung to find them. Seol Ja tells him she can’t live if she lets Seo Poong go down without her help. Unfortunately, CEO Yong’s thugs box them in when they park the car in the hotel’s garage. They can’t get out of the car!

CEO Yong and Seo Poong sign the agreement for the terms of the bet.

The VIP guests enter the dining room. The hospital manager, nurse, and many others take their places at the table.

Chef Wang is still talking while Seo Poong works hard to manage it all on his own. Seo Poong counters with his own chatter. Chef Wang counter chatters. Chil Seong’s men watch while Seo Poong makes it happen. Seo Poong break down the lobster just like Seol Ja taught him. Seo Poong tells Go Ra if she won’t help him, he’ll have to be faster.

My Thoughts

Seo Poong doesn’t want to compete but was obligated to. Chil Seong choose a plan that would garner him the hotel’s eatery in one fell swoop. But did he make a good deal? If Seo Poong loses, Chil Seong will give up the protest rights AND close Seo Poong’s eatery. If Seo Poong wins, Chil Seong gets the hotel eatery free and clear. I’m not sure that CEO Yong is risking as much as Chil Seong. Seo Poong pointed out that the dream of being the chef at the hotel was no longer top priority. But he couldn’t say no and agreed. Was it right for Chil Seong to make the bet involving Seo Poong without consulting Seo Poong?

Chef Seo Poong (Lee Joon Ho) stands alone. He was in a dreadful position having to process all the lobster by himself. Go Ra’s right, Seo Poong doesn’t have the time to get it done. Seo Poong did the only thing he could, he suggested Go Ra defect to his team. Will she? I had to chuckle when Seo Poong burst into Sae Woo’s house and told her mother that he’s dating Sae Woo. Jeong Hae was shocked at his bold declaration. Sae Woo enjoyed the moment. Can Seo Poong ever get Sae Woo’s mother’s approval? I liked the declaration of friendship that Seo Poong made to Chil Seong. He didn’t want to lose Chil Seong’s friendship and clearly said so. I like that Seo Poong values that friendship.

Dan Sae Woo (Jung Ryeo Won) was thrilled when Chil Seong said he was working on getting her father out of jail. Naturally she was excited and hugged Chil Seong. She wasn’t flirting, she was thrilled and happy. Being a dutiful daughter blows. But she and Seol Ja left the house to help Seo Poong. Unfortunately, they ended up trapped in the car. I did enjoy Sae Woo’s playfulness with Seo Poong in the kitchen. Our OTP achieved a moment of happiness.

Doo Chil Seong (Jang Hyuk) bet the protest rights and the eatery. Writer Seo penned Chil Seong willing to gamble and risk everything. I wonder if this was a wise bet. I’d hoped that Chil Seong would have another interaction with the veterinarian. Unfortunately, he DIDN’T recognize her when she ate the eatery. She didn’t like it. He was too busy to care. Talk about missing an opportunity!

I rank these episodes (on a scale from 1-10) as very good. My episode ranking chart is below.

What a relief that Sae Poong’s🤺 👨‍🍳 relationship is out in the open. I wondered if Seol Ja 🔪 … would or wouldn’t … rat 🐀 out Sae Woo 🤺 to Jeong Hae 🌰👸? I 💖 that Poong 👨‍🍳 came forward to face the music … and Jeong Hae 🌰👸 about his feelings for Sae Woo 🤺. While I 💗 that Poong 👨‍🍳 told them ALL to show up for work the next day, I was not surprised Sae Woo’s 🤺 family did not come, but I thought Sae Woo 🤺 would at least show up. Wouldn’t Jeong Hae 🌰👸 change her mind if Sae Woo 🤺 left home? Admittedly it would be awkward for Sae Woo 🤺 move in with Poong 👨‍🍳, seeing how he lives with Chil Seung 🕶️.

At least the restaurant could function with Poong 👨‍🍳 and the Big Dipper 🌌 Boys. How disappointing Chil Seung 🕶️ didn’t remember Ji Kyung 👩‍⚕️🐈 AKA veterinarian AKA IV Lady. I hope Chil Seung 🕶️ doesn’t forget Ji Kyung 👩‍⚕️🐈 the next time they meet and miss the opportunity to connect with someone who is interested in him.

There goes Sae Woo 🤺 hugging on Chil Seung 🕶️; he wanted to capitulate to his feelings, but restrained himself. Clueless Sae Woo keeps sending mixed signals to Chil Seung 🕶️; she just doesn’t get it ✳️SHAKING MY HEAD✳️

“Chil Seong pointed out that Seo Poong being the chef in the hotel’s eatery was a long-standing goal and Seo Poong should embrace the contest to obtain that goal. Seo Poong pointed out that goal was no longer valid but he’d do it because his friend asked him to. Both men thought of each other when they agreed to the contest.” -KJT. Chil Seung’s 🕶️ faith in Poong 👨‍🍳 to win the wager with CEO Yong 🐖 with the restaurants at stake, was awesome, especially when he acknowledged he was aware that Sae Poong🤺 👨‍🍳 liked each other and then Poong 👨‍🍳 countered that he wanted to be by Chil Seung’s 🕶️ side for a very long time … the bromance 💙 is still ALIVE❗

I concur with KJT that “I like that Chil Seong reached out to his mother who kept her word to stay away. I liked that she knew he’d reach out and left him a note so he wouldn’t worry.”

I 💗 Maeng Dal 🏍️ being Seol Ja’s 🔪 kryptonite to convince her to help with the restaurant cook-off. I 💖 that Poong 👨‍🍳 is going forward with faith that Sae Woo 🤺 and Seol Ja 🔪 will come.

Chil Seung 🕶️ looked so great in his Chinese jacket as he arrived for the competition. Leave it to stinky CEO Yong 🐖 to cheat by trying to kidnap Sae Woo 🤺 and Seol Ja 🔪 to keep them from coming to the competition; once a cheater, ALWAYS a cheater. I love Maeng Dal 🏍️ for coming to the rescue. Will Geok Jeong 🚗 rescue them from Bi Dak’s men who have them boxed-in, in the parking lot?

  2. Beez says:

Sae Woo knew EXACTLY what she was doing to Chil seung! Koreans do not impulsively hug friends of opposite sex even in their gratitude and excitement. And she should know better. I’m not saying she wants Chil seung but she enjoys the flattery of keeping him in a certain emotional position. All I could think was “GET OFF MY MAN!” LOL

As to our beloved Ganster, I hope Lady Vet left more of an impression than he’s letting on.

  3. Beez says:

Although I will amend my above comment to say, Sae woo is apparently touchy-feely with everyone. I noticed her massaging one of the other cook staff’s shoulders in the next episode so…

But she should still just STOP with Chil seung out of mercy and respect for his feelings.

    • Drama Fan says:

That’s just it. We are supposed to see her as spontaneous and that’s fine, but why is she is so indifferent to how much she can hurt him? She simply does not care about his feelings, and she should! out of simple human decency but also, she owes him a lot! And please someone explain what I’m supposed to feel when she gets jealous of Chilsung and Poong’s bromance? Is that meant to be “cute”? Because wow! I find it selfish and irritating. I disliked how she interrupted their hug too.

      • Beez says:

Well, not to bring spoilers into it (but I am), we see where she gets her selfishness from in the next couple of episodes. I’ll wait to say more but it’s hard because I’m livid!

“Admittedly it would be awkward for Sae Woo 🤺 move in with Poong 👨‍🍳, seeing how he lives with Chil Seung 🕶” Jane Tilly

Nooooooooo That must NOT happen! Although I would not expect Saw woo to have enough sense to put the brakes on something. like that. I’ll have to trust Poong because he seems to really value his bromance with Chil seung.

    • Jane Tilly says:

I have liked having a cheerful character like Sae Woo 🤺, but even I am getting annoyed 😒 with her careless skinship, especially with Chil Seung 🕶️ as he has made his feelings for her clear. Her actions need to match her words.

I do believe Poong 👨‍🍳 VALUES his bromance 💙 with Chil Seung 🕶️ to bring Sae Woo 🤺 into Chil Seung’s 🕶️ house.
