Wok of Love Episode 27

Sae Woo (Jung Ryeo Won) returns to the eatery to find Seo Poong (Lee Joon Ho) sitting outside. She offers beer and concern over the day. Seo Poong says tomorrow reactions will occur from the day’s events. He admits he’s not thrilled about dating in secret. Sae Woo is adamant this is what they must do for now. Seo Poong acquiesces to Sae Woo’s demands and gently kisses her. Chil Seong watches them having walked back to the eatery. Seo Poong declares he’ll drive her home. Sae Woo follows him into the eatery assuring him she doesn’t need him to drive her home.

Back in his apartment, Doo Chil Seong (Jang Hyuk) recalls Seo Poong trying to tell him something.

Sae Woo isn’t clear about where she lives.

Chil Seong hangs with the kitten. He’s concerned that the kitten is not eating.

Chil Seong heads to a veterinarian. It’s the woman from the hospital that borrowed Chil Seong’s IV stand! She recognizes him but he doesn’t recognize her. She diagnoses the kitten was feed cow’s milk. As Chil Seong starts to take the kitten, the veterinarian realizes Chil Seong might walk out of her life again. She recommends the kitten is hospitalized so she can run tests. Chil Seong agrees.

She’s intrigued by Chil Seong and kept the kitten to get more interactions with Chil Seong. I like a woman that seizes the moment! I only had a sliver of a hope that Chil Seong would get his own love interest.

Sae Woo has Seo Poong drop her off at the building where she used to live. He waves goodbye as she punches in the code to the inner apartments. She’s surprised to find her ex-husband, O Jik, walking into the lobby. He’s just in from the airport. He apologizes for not being able to win over his parents. She tells him his lack of communication and using his parents to deliver the divorce papers was tacky. She indicates no showing at the wedding was even worse. O Jik shrugs says they weren’t similar and didn’t suit. Sae Woo shakes her head and states she’ll see him in court. O Jik tells her not to be late.

Ouch! Sae Woo gave her ex-husband a long overdue piece of her mind. His reaction was uncaring and rude. Good riddance!

Sae Woo cries at the mean words from the man she used to love. She can’t believe she didn’t realize what kind of man he really was.

A drunk Chil Seong arrives home to find Seo Poong asleep. Chil Seong tells the sleeping Seo Poong that his annoying, smart, and has him jealous. Seo Poong wakes. Chil Seong points out Seo Poong’s been married but he hasn’t. Chil Seong wants to refuse Seo Poong’s help tending him. Chil Seong declares he drank alone. Seo Poong asks why he didn’t call his men. Chil Seong admits to himself that he’d be embarrassed if his men found out.

In bed, Chil Seong admits that he’s been a loner and unloved since he was 5 years old. He tells Seo Poong his father was a world class boxer that died. Chil Seong admits he wants his father by his side but that isn’t possible. Seo Poong starts to tell Chil Seong, but he cuts him. Chil Seong tells Seo Poong to be by his side. Chil Seong declares it is time to sleep.

Everyone works to handle handle the influx of customers that have heard about the battle between Seo Poong and Chief Wang.

CEO Yong Seung Ryong (Kim Sa Kwon) isn’t happy that the hotel’s eatery isn’t buzzing. He warns Chef Wang that the eatery’s failure will cause an unwanted ripple effect throughout the hotel including the underlying loan.

Sam Sung reports that some say Seo Poong’s food is better. Chief Wang doesn’t like that.

The hospital’s manager returns to Seo Poong’s eatery. The nurse is surprised to her boss that rejected the eatery for the 100-person reservation there. The hospital’s manager places his order with Jeong Hae and asks Seo Poong to serve the special cocktail.  When Seo Poong spies the hotel manager in the dining room, he’s all smiles. He asks Sae Woo to gather the ingredients for the special cocktail. Chae Seol Ja (Park Ji Young) is thrilled about the influx of customers from the hospital. Seo Poong smiles believing he’s had an effect. Maeng Dal smiles believing the same. The hospital manager loves the food and the special cocktail. He and Seo Poong acknowledge each other with a smile.

Dressed in street clothes, Sae Woo admits she must step out to sign divorce papers at court. Seol Ja overhears. Seol Ja flags down Jin Jeong Hae (Lee Mi Sook) and reports Sae Woo’s ex-husband must be back in town to sign the divorce papers. Jeong Hae rushes out. Seol Ja starts taking orders. Seo Poong notices they are down two staff members during this unexpected rush.

Jeong Hae rushes to O Jik and tells him that divorce is wrong. She reminds him that he used to love her daughter. She tells him divorce is cruel. O Jik declares he must follow his parent’s wishes. Jeong Hae can’t believe he can’t act as an adult in this matter. Jeong Hae declares to Sae Woo she needs to fight the divorce and not give in. Sae Woo sighs in frustration.

Seo Poong stands outside the eatery and wonders how signing divorce papers at court is going for Sae Woo.

Jeong Hae and Sae Woo sit on a park bench and say nothing. Jeong Hae strides away. Sae Woo sighs.

Maeng Dal and the men report an anonymous person as booked and prepaid for the entire eatery for an evening.

Seo Poong overhears Seol Ja and Im Geok Jung (Tae Hang Ho) discuss the private reservation. When their conversation turns to Sae Woo, Seo Poong presses his ear against the door to hear better.

Did Seo Poong hear anything?

Chil Seong’s mother (Lee Mi Sook) brings his father’s memorabilia. She says his father wanted her to give to their son and now she’s fulfilling her promise after 35 years of wandering and denial. She admits that Chil Seong is her champion.

Sae Woo congratulates Seo Poong on the private reservation. He details his ideas for the menu. He asks how things went with her ex. Sae Woo doesn’t want to talk about it. Seo Poong shares how his ex-wife’s family took him in when his father died and how their relationship was supportive and loving, until it wasn’t. Seo Poong admits his ex dumped him for CEO Yong. Sae Woo admits her ex didn’t show up to the wedding and fled the country to avoid the scandal of her father’s bankruptcy. Sae Woo says her ex had to show to get the divorce, and so he returned to the country. Sae Woo also shares her family used to wealthy. Seo Poong says the upside to the bankruptcy is her relationship with her ex imploded and meeting each other. He wonders if Sae Woo will get married again one day. Sae Woo asks if he’ll get married again. They both agree the future is unknown but smile wondering if their next marriage partner is each other.

Wok of Love Episode 28

Jeong Hae tells her daughter that once father is released from prison things will be better and Sae Woo will be able to date someone from a better class. Sae Woo wonders if her parents married for love or money. Her mother declares it was money. Jeong Hae believes that was the right choice for her. She declares she’ll give Sae Woo the opportunity to marry a rich man.

Chil Seong calls Maeng Dal to make sure the debt rights have been transferred from the unpaid constructions workers to his company. Maeng Dal informs him the hotel’s thugs trashed the construction workers’ office. In person, Maeng Dal clarifies CEO Yong’s thugs intervened to stop the transfer of the deb rights. Maeng Dal admits it worked because the construction workers won’t sell. Chil Seong decides that Sae Woo’s father might be the person that can help them nail CEO Yong.

Sae Woo calls to the kitten but he doesn’t come. She spies Chil Seong and asks where the kitten is. She’s dismayed to learn the kitten is at the veterinarian. She wants to come with Chil Seong to pick up the kitten. Chil Seong declines stating he has business to attend to first. Chil Seong surprises Sae Woo when he relinquishes his co-parenting of the kitten to Seo Poong. Chil Seong claims that the kitten prefers Seo Poong. When Sae Woo protests, Chil Seong is firm that Seo Poong is the better parent and an all-around nice guy. Chil Seong strides away.

CEO Yong’s thug reports to CEO Yong that Chil Seong almost purchased the debt rights. CEO Yong is worried what that could mean for his teetering business. CEO Yong asks his thug who would win a fight between them. The thug declares it would a tough fight with the loser dead. After the thug leaves, CEO Yong calls and requests an additional loan.

The next day Sae Woo finds Seo Poong in the refrigerator. He’s worried she’ll catch a chill and snaps at her. She scolds him for worrying and he apologizes. She gives him a back hug and declares he is hers. Sae Woo wishes everyone in the kitchen liked him. She pushes Seo Poong away when Seol Ja enters.

Everything goes well until it doesn’t. Jeong Hae makes a mistake. Seo Poong reminds her that he won’t tolerate errors. Sae Woo is unable to stop her mother hearing negative feedback. Jeong Hae dashes out of the kitchen. Seol Ja and Geok Jung stand up for Jeong Hae pointing out that she’s the only server in a busy eatery.  Seo Poong tries to stop Sae Woo when she moves to check in Jeong Hae, but Sae Woo pushes his hand away. Seo Poong assign extra help for Jeong Hae.

Sae Woo finds her mother. Jeong Hae declares she’s going to quit, she doesn’t have to take that kind of treatment.

Chil Seong visits Sae Woo’s father in jail. Chil Seong admits he’s surprised that other man agreed to the visit. Sae Woo’s father recalls Sae Woo telling him about getting a loan with Chil Seong’s company. Of course, her father wanted to meet the man that helped his daughter when other “friends” would not. Chil Seong explains that CEO Yong is the head of a construction company that borrowed money from Sae Woo’s father’s bank and their subsequent investment failed. Sae Woo’s father is shocked by this news. Chil Seong believes evidence to exonerate Sae Woo’s father can be found with the person that transferred the falsified paperwork from CEO Yong.

Is it Sae Woo’s ex-husband?

CEO Yong’s thug follows Chil Seong as he exits the jail. Chil Seong sees his tail and knows he’s causing discomfort for CEO Yong and the thug. He catches the thug in traffic and gives the startles man a couple of punches. Chil Seong warns the thug that he’s watching him too.

Nice to see Chil Seong get the upper hand. I like Chil Seong taking on the corrupt CEO Yong.

Jeong Hae quits. No one on the team is happy about that.

As Seo Poong rings up a customer he spies Sae Woo’s old wedding invitation under the counter. He hides it when Sae Woo gives him a curt good night. Seol Ja and Geok Jung follow suit. Seo Poong stares at the wedding invitation and wonders.

Seo Poong drives to the address on the wedding invitation. He stares at the big house.

Inside the house, Seol Ja, Jeong Hae, Sae Woo, and Geok Jung plan their evening.

Seo Poong is startled when he sees the four of them step outside the house. He’s even more surprised when Sae Woo refers to Jeong Hae as her mother.

My Thoughts

Seo Poong learns about Sae Woo’s family/support system. Seo Poong recalled that Sae Woo wanted everyone to like him. Now Seo Poong knows she kept details of her family from him and for a long time. How will Seo Poong react? Is this an interesting plot point? Personally, I’m was more interested in Chil Seong’s pursuit of the slimy CEO Yong.

Chef Seo Poong (Lee Joon Ho) is finally enjoying a healthy customer base and a warm romance with Sae Woo. I’m pleased that Seo Poong is enjoying success professionally. But the romance could be in trouble depending on how Seo Poong reacts to the secret of Sae Woo’s family. I can’t fault Seo Poong for reprimanding Sae Woo’s mother for errors. However, to do it publicly is a mistake. The adage is “praise in public and criticize in private”. The private reservation has to be some kind of trap for Seo Poong.

Dan Sae Woo (Jung Ryeo Won) watched Seo Poong dress down her mother again. Sae Woo’s mother quit. Seol Ja and Geok Jung made the valid point that Seo Poong was understaffed in the serving area. There was a definite chill in the air when the family said goodnight to Seo Poong. How will Sae Woo justify keeping her family a secret from Seo Poong? Sae Woo’s ex-husband truly is a coward and she’s well rid of him. Is he working with CEO Yong? Did he betray Sae Woo’s father?

Doo Chil Seong (Jang Hyuk) may have a love interest! Writer Seo penned in the IV lady as the veterinarian that Chil Seong took the kitten to. Smart lady, she kept the kitten overnight to get more interaction time with Chil Seong. I like a woman that goes after what she wants. Chil Seong told Sae Woo that he’s no longer a parent to the kitten instead he handed the baton to Seo Poong. Sae Woo didn’t understand why. Chil Seong is smart to reduce the dwell time with Sae Woo now that he knows that Seo Poong and Sae Woo are a romantic pair. Chil Seong handled that blow well. Even after he got drunk to deal with the shock and pain, he continued to be kind to Seo Poong. Chil Seong is turning out to be my favorite character of the series. And no, it’s not only because Jang Hyuk is portraying him. It’s because he’s got the deeper storyline – from the kitten, to his mother, to taking on the slimy CEO Yong, to maintaining his friendship with Seo Poong and Sae Woo – Chil Seong is interwoven into the interesting bits of this series. I remember when I despaired that Chil Seong storyline would be limited to the classic second lead that pinned over the leading lady to no avail.

I rank these episodes (on a scale from 1-10) as very good. My episode ranking chart is below.

I was relieved that Chil Seung 🕶️ recalled the times Poong 👨‍🍳 tried to tell him about dating Sae Woo 🤺, but I still felt bad for Chil Seung 🕶️ being the odd man out. When Dim Sum 🐈 got sick, what a pleasant surprise to find the veterinarian was IV Lady. I concur that IV lady/Vet kept Dim Sum 🐈 overnight to find out more about and see Chil Seung 🕶️. Too bad Chil Seung 🕶️ didn’t seem to remember her; but she now has his name, number AND kitty 🐈. How sweet of Chil Seung 🕶️ to give the rights to be Dim Sum’s mom to Poong 👨‍🍳, it is like getting the seal of approval for Sae Poong 🤺👨‍🍳. I 💗 💟💖 Chil Seung’s 🕶️ heart of gold 💛❗

I 💗 Gum Lady 🍬/ mom made efforts to reconcile with Chil Seung 🕶️ by giving him his father’s memoriabilia and calling Chil Seung 🕶️ her champion 🏆. I’m pleased with the increased relevance of Chil Seung 🕶️ in the storyline an a 💪stronger possibility of him having a 💖 interest.

How WONDERFUL to see the hospital 🏥 director and other employees eating at the Hungry Wok, making the Hotel 🏨 restaurant much emptier. CEO Yong 🐖 needs to pay for his crimes and decreased business is a good start❗

I was quite ANNOYED Oh Jik 💩 had the nerve to tell Sae Woo 🤺 to be on time ⌚ to court, when he couldn’t bother to show up to his own wedding. 💒, let alone be on time ⌚. I was concerned Oh Jik 💩 would try to win Sae Woo 🤺 back … what a relief he didn’t even try. Jeong Hae 🌰👸 was not wrong about Oh Jik 💩 being immature by not taking charge of his own life. I concur with KJT “Good riddance!”

I was thinking Jeong Hae 🌰👸 may have earned being fired for walking out on her shift without a word to anyone, unless Poong 👨‍🍳 found out about Jeong Hae 🌰👸 being Sae Woo’s mom. Sae Woo 🤺 made a mistake in not telling Poong 👨‍🍳 about the kitchen staff being related to her, I KNOW he would have treated Sae Woo’s mom 🌰👸 better. What kind of a toll will the knowledge of their relationship take?

If Chil Seung 🕶️ sees the wedding 💌 invitation, will he put 2 and 2 together about Banker 🏦 Dan being Sae Woo’s dad? Clearly dad 🏦 decided to see Chil Seung 🕶️ as the remembered “Light and Shadow” being the place that loaned Sae Woo 🤺 money 💰. I’m confused … Banker 🏦 Dan made a loan to someone who defrauded him, but the banker 🏦 is the one in jail? I’m hoping Chil Seung’s 🕶️ kindness pays off for himself and Banker 🏦 Dan.

Sae Poong 🤺👨‍🍳 having skinship in the refrigerator and freezer was NOT very secret. I wish Sae Poong 🤺👨‍🍳 would date in the open like Poong 👨‍🍳 wants.

I 💖 the punch 👊 fake out Chil Seung 🕶️ gave Bi Dak. Chil Seung 🕶️ needs to catch CEO Yong 🐖. KJT asked if the falsified paperwork was transferred to Banker 🏦 Dan by Sae Woo’s 🤺 ex-husband, No Jik 💩 … my gut feeling is NO , but then again, why was No Jik 💩 on the lam❓⁉️

What a revelation for Poong 👨‍🍳 to discover who Sae Woo’s 🤺 family was. Poong 👨‍🍳 had to be STUNNED 💢 especially due to his public treatment of Sae Woo’s mother Jeong Hae 🌰👸. Sae Woo 🤺 being secretive 🤐 about her relationship with the kitchen staff being her family and wanting to date Poong 👨‍🍳 and secret were NO BUENO.

I was excited about this plot point and hope 🤞 that Writer Seo does something with it.

. Poong 👨‍🍳 had to be STUNNED 💢…o discover who Sae Woo’s 🤺 family was
It’s sad THAT is the most interesting storyline for our leading couple.🤦

I like Poong and I think his perfectionism in the kitchen is not a problem imo. But he could scold people in private. I think it’s a good thing he’ll sort of learn a lesson here. I would think it wrong if he favored Saewoo’s mom if she is not good at her job and wrong to treat her different from others. I think he simply needs to learn to treat everyone better. On the other hand, Saewoo’s mom needs to learn so many things, I don’t think the remaining episodes will be enough for her. I like the emoji you chose for SW’s ex 💩 🤣

      💩 fits him❗

Agreed about Poong’s 👨‍🍳 kitchen perfectionism being okay; scolding should be in private. I think especially when someone is in busy work situation AND has a fiery 🎇 temper it is REALLY EASY to spew displeasure on the spot;not that it makes it right.

Concur with scold in private HOWEVER Seo Poong has been consistent in ripping into ANYONE that doesn’t met his standards.

Saewoo’s mom needs to learn so many things, I don’t think the remaining episodes will be enough for her
Agreed. This character is a disappointment. Another cardboard cutout character from Writer Seo. The most interesting aspect was that she was willing to work as a dishwasher and took the initiative to become a server without asking for approval. Lee Mi Sook deserves better.
