Great Seducer Episodes 21-22

Great Seducer Episode 21

Kwon Shi Hyun (Woo Do Hwan) brings a drunk Eun Tae Hee (Joy) home. He tends the cut on her hand. He leaves the outer part of his mother’s necklace (he already gave Tae Hee the inner part of the necklace). He strokes her hair and tells her that things will get better for both of them…with time.

Tae Hee wakes to a splitting head. She spies the fresh bandage on her hand. She finds the outer part of Shi Hyun’s necklace. She goes across the hall to talk to him but he’s getting into the elevator. She rushes outside and manages to catch him. She demands to know why he bandaged her hand and why he left the other half of his mother’s necklace. She doesn’t believe that he dislikes her. Shi Hyun lies he pities her. Tae Hee urges him to be honest. Shi Hyun admits that his mother was the hit and run driver that struck her 2 years ago. Tae Hee assures him that he has nothing to feel guilty about. She asks him to give them another chance. Shi Hyun’s heart won’t let him suppress the truth. He cries and hugs her.

Later in his apartment, Shi Hyun apologizes for his bad behavior. She accepts his apology. He tells Tae Hee that he found out who his father was seeing on the side. He admits he plans to meet with this woman. Tae Hee understands the anger he must feel for this woman. She hated the man that held her mother’s heart from loving her father. She asks if Shi Hyun really needs to see this woman. He believes he must.

Shi Hyun drives to Tae Hee’s mother’s studio. He tells her who his father is. Tae Hee’s mother is stunned. Shi Hyun tells her that his mother hit a young girl 2 years ago driving to see her. Tae Hee’s mother has no words. Shi Hyun leaves. Tae Hee’s mother rushes after him and apologizes. Shi Hyun drives away with tears in his eyes. Tae Hee’s mother puts it together. Shi Hyun’s mother hit Tae Hee. She’s floored by the tangled web.

Shi Hyun meets his father (not bio-dad). He accuses his father of using him and Soo Ji’s mother to secure his power in the company. He admits he met his father’s lover. Shi Hyun’s father stuns Shi Hyun with the news that Soo Ji asked him not to marry her mother so she could marry Shi Hyun. Floored, Shi Hyun can’t believe it.

Meanwhile, Choi Soo Ji (Mun Ka Young) meets Lee Se Joo (Kim Min Jae). He suggests that they stop hurting each other and start supporting each other. He notices Soo Ji is driving again. Soo Ji admits the car has been sitting in the garage for 2 years. Later Soo Ji almost hits Tae Hee when she dashes into the road to retrieve her school project. Tae Hee stares at the car. She wonders about the car.

Soo Ji’s mother meets with the assemblyman to ask him to facilitate the next round of drug testing. He agrees for a price. Soo Ji’s mother is forced to agree. She needs the successful drug testing to marry Shi Hyun’s father. Shi Hyun’s father’s assistant (who is in love with Soo Ji’s mother) promises to help her should the lie that Shi Hyun’s mother hit Tae Hee come to light. Soo Ji’s mother tells him the car is secure in her garage. Little does she know that Soo Ji is driving it.

A moment of levity is provided when Park Hye Jung calls Soo Ji’s loser ex-boyfriend a lying leech. Her brother laughs at his sister’s bold spot-on assessment.

Summary – Excellent episode. The younger actors were more truthful than the adults.

Great Seducer Episode 22

Shi Hyun meets his father (not bio-dad) and drops the bomb that he met his lover. Shi Hyun offers additional scathing words before leaving. Shi Hyun’s father calls Tae Hee’s mother but she doesn’t pick up.

Shi Hyun goes to the trio’s hideout to find Soo Ji and Se Joo with a birthday cake and festive decorations. Shi Hyun demands to know why Soo Ji asked his father to allow them to marry. On the defensive Soo Ji points out the prize of their bet was marriage. She demands to know if Shi Hyun no longer wants that. Shi Hyun confirms his feelings have changed. Stunned, Soo Ji demands to know if Shi Hyun pretended to break up with Tae Hee to learn his father’s lover’s name. Shi Hyun admits that his mother was the hit and run driver that hurt Tae Hee. He says the guilt of that was the reason why he broke up with Tae Hee. He says Tae Hee refused to accept his guilt and they are reunited. He tells Soo Ji and Se Joo the easy carefree days are over. He leaves and remembers a previous birthday celebration where they were happy.

Soo Ji can’t believe what Shi Hyun just told them. Se Joo encourages Soo Ji to be truthful that she likes Shi Hyun. He points out all her actions only drive Shi Hyun away. He admits his own lack of courage to pursue what he wants. Soo Ji leaves upset.

When Soo Ji returns home, her mother demands to know why she asked her marriage to be set aside so she and Shi Hyun could marry. Soo Ji’s mother drops the bomb that Shi Hyun is not biologically related to Shi Hyun. Soo Ji grapples with the past clues and her clueless state over this revelation. Her mother won’t give up her plan to marry Shi Hyun’s father.

A moment of levity is provided when Park Hye Jung studies with Tae Hee and her boyfriend arrives singling cute jingles about math equation to help her remember. Tae Hee can only chuckle at the young love.

Shi Hyun drives to his apartment to find Tae Hee waiting outside for her. Tae Hee has a flashback of finding an injured woman in a similar car (Shi Hyun’s mother) and rushing down the dark road to find help only to be hit by another car. Tae Hee doesn’t understand what the flashback means.

Shi Hyun and Tae Hee walk under the blossoms. One falls in Tae Hee’s hand and she declares that means her love for him won’t fade. Shi Hyun holds out his hand but the blossoms won’t fall in his hand. He wonders if his love is doomed.

In her apartment Tae Hee sings Happy Birthday and they share his candles each making a birthday wish. Tae Hee admonishing Shi Hyun to keep his wish a secret. She presents him with a photo album of the two of them.

Later in his apartment Shi Hyun sketches Tae Hee and admits that he wished that Tae Hee not be saddled with him for a lifetime when he reveals all. He doesn’t believe he deserves her forgiveness but rather banishment.

Summary –  Shi Hyun has an aurora of foreshadowing around him.

My Thoughts

Our couple reunited. Tae Hee stopped Shi Hyun from walking out of her life. Shi Hyun admitted the truth. She forgave him when he apologized. But their happiness torpedoed Soo Ji’s hope that she and Shi Hyun would be a couple. Se Joo pointed out her actions drove Shi Hyun away. But the glow around our couple is tainted with foreshadowing of something to do with Shi Hyun. The ratings for this show may be dreadful, but I’ve enjoyed the last several episodes and consider these two episodes strong.

Kwon Shi Hyun (Woo Do Hwan) admitted his truth. He told his father he met with his lover. His interaction with Tae Hee’s mother was surprisingly kind. He told Tae Hee that his mother was the driver that hit her. He apologized for his mistreatment of Tae Hee. He gratefully reengaged with the Tae Hee. He told Soo Ji their bet to marry was no longer an option and that further bets wouldn’t happen either. This was a strong episode for Shi Hyun. He finally wondered who his bio-dad was. The camera lovingly captures Woo Do Hwan’s beauty. Shi Hyun cried multiple times as he grappled with the emotions of meeting his father’s lover (and Tae Hee’s mother), his mother’s crime against Tae Hee, etc. His birthday wish was honest but sad. He believes Tae Hee is better off without him.

Choi Soo Ji (Mun Ka Young) realized Shi Hyun has slipped through her fingers. She assumed Shi Hyun would be available when she finally decided to reel him in. But he told her he loves another and their games were over. She deserved that.  Soo Ji’s concern for Shi Hyun’s pain after her mother told her that Shi Hyun isn’t biologically related does show she loves him. Soo Ji doesn’t know she’s driving the car that hit Tae Hee.

Lee Se Joo (Kim Min Jae) was supportive of Soo Ji.  He pointed out her machinations were driving Shi Hyun away not closer. He admitted his own cowardness in not admitting his feelings. I like this character but don’t see happiness in the near term.

Eun Tae Hee (Joy) reunited with Shi Hyun.  She boldly demanded he listen. She told her truth. He told his truth. She accepted his apology just like the elderly woman in the nursing home advised. Tae Hee’s love is sweet, pure, and easy to watch. Will she realize that the memory of the woman in Shi Hyun’s car is the prelude to her hit and run accident? Will she realize the unconscious driver she found was Shi Hyun’s mother?

Ranking the episode (on a scale from 1-10) had me rank this episode 21 as terrific and episode 22 as very good. My episode ranking chart is below.

The fourth song of the OST “Side” by Yang Da Il is another pretty ballad. Check it out:

Well Mi Ri 👩‍ or Secretary Yoon did NOT do a very good accident cleanup if they didn’t dispose of the car used the Mi Ri’s 👩‍ drunken 🍸 accident. If you are evil enough to cover-up hit-and-run accidents, you should eliminate ALL the evidence. This WILL come back to bite 😬❗

I wonder if Mi Ri 👩‍ will have a cow 🐄 when she finds out Soo Ji 👸🐝 drove her old car. It is interesting that Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 is also driving his mother’s old car. Don’t chaebol kids usually drive new, expensive sports cars, like Se Joo 🕶️👨❓⁉️. Shi Hyun’s 🕺🌹 car is a convertible but his and Soo Ji’s 👸🐝 cars a mom-like feel to them; neither car seems like the type of car young chaebols would drive.

Hye Jung 🐰 seemed to be the source of levity in these episodes from her observations of Soo Ji’s ex (💩) to escapades with her new boyfriend (aren’t they adorable ❓⁉️) … we NEEDED some comic relief with so much seriousness.

These episodes seemed to be the “Tell It How It Is” episodes. How refreshing to have TRUTH be so clarifying❗ What a pleasant 🎊surprised🎉 Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 blurt out the REAL reason he broke up with Tae Hee 🏺 was because his mom caused her hit-and-run accident, which we (the viewers) know is not the truth. While I applaud Tae Hee 🏺 for recognizing Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 is NOT responsible for his mother’s actions (which she didn’t do), I thought she was a little quick to forgive his cruel treatment of her … Tae Hee 🏺 is truly smitten 😍.

I thought Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 had amazing restraint as he confronted Young Won ⚱️ with the effects of the affair with his non-bio dad Seok Woo ✌️❌ AND his confrontation with Seok Woo ✌️❌. At least Young Won ⚱️ had the decency to be ashamed 😖 of her actions. I’m almost 🎊surprised🎉 Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 didn’t smash the vase (Young Won’s ⚱️ work) as he walked though JK’s lobby.

Bravo 👏 for Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 for letting Soo Ji 👸🐝 know he no longer was crushing 💕 on her, that he was angry 😧 about being used in her battle against their parents and that things may never be the same for the trio.

Mi Ri 👩‍ was foolish to tell her daughter about Shi Hyun’s 🕺🌹 paternity, Mi Ri 👩‍ just lost control over some powerful information. I don’t think Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 will be pleased to have his friends know that truth, will the divide between them deepen❓⁉️ What will the ramifications be for Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 when the truth becomes public❓⁉️ Time shortens ⏳ with each person who knows his paternity.

Se Joo 🕶️👨 provided Soo Ji 👸🐝 a much needed “Come To Jesus” moment about her machinations driving Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 away. I was proud of this sweet 🍭 player for admitting his own cowardice. I want Se Joo 🕶️👨 to get over Soo Ji 👸🐝 BEFORE she realizes what a gem she rejected. I do NOT want to see Soo-Joo 🚫 👸👨.

Will Shi-Hee 🕺🏺 survive the knowledge of the bet❓⁉️ How will the knowledge of Young Won ⚱️ being Tae Hee’s 🏺 mom AND having an affair with Seok Woo’s ✌️❌ affect Shi-Hee 🕺🏺❓⁉️

Mi Ri’s decision to keep the car could seal her fate. 🤞

I lover her, the turtle, and her boyfriend!

I welcomed it. Agreed the Shi Hyun’s interaction with Tae Hee’s mother was pointed but respectful too.

One of them will try and use it to gain power in a situation.

Beez’s lipstick soliloquy made me laugh out loud 🤣

Shi Hyun 🕺🌹 DID come clean about MOST everything to Tae Hee 🏺, unfortunately the secret about the bet is heavily hanging over his head like an anvil waiting to drop … ✳️PICTURING WILEY COYOTE✳️… only it’s not so comical …

Yup, yup. Because if Tae hee gets that info about the bet, it’s just one tiny step in logic to think Shin hyun knew all along about her mother and approached her to hurt Cheatin’ Mom.

That could be a conclusion Tae Hee 🏺 comes to, even though it is not the truth. I could see Soo Ji 👸🐝 pushing for that erroneous conclusion.

I had the same thoughts about the rich kids and their cars, too.

I’m so over the men in lipstick. Shi kyun’s lips were the same deep burgandy that I used to wear in the ’80’s. Sorry, but y’all know how I am when I get distracted. lol

Normally, I find his lips beautiful and kissable but it looks so yuk! It had me wondering if men who complain about not liking women in lipstick feel this way too? lol (I apologize for brushing aside their complaints.)

Anyway, I’m glad Shi hyuk “quit frontin'” and came clean with Tae Hee.

The deep lipstick 👄 was noticeable and not in a good way.

Glad you agree, although I’ll give show credit that it wasn’t pink (Lee Min ho in Personal Taste) and it wasn’t The-Most Hideous-Orange I’ve ever seen (Rain in Come Back Mister’s first few episodes).

I harp on the lipstick because Korean actors have the most attractive natural lip color to me so when they cover it up like that… it interferes with ME is all I’m sayin’. lolololol

And I agree with you, kjt, about the rating of this show. While sometimes I put off watching the episodes because I know I’m not gonna be left with a feel-good feeling afterwards, the show is still far better than some shows that get tremendous ratings in Korea. I’m talking about the weekend shows. Yes, some of them have been good but all to often I wonder is it just that nothing else competes with their time slots that they get those 37-40% ratings.

In spite of what I just said, I’ll also admit if not for Mr. Smouldering Sexy, I wouldn’t be watching this either. 😁

The pacing of this drama is still bothering me. Everything feels too fast-including Tae hee’s make up with Shi Hyun in ep. 21. It’s like I can’t really get emotionally invested in their relationship because it’s happening too quickly for me to feel any real resonance. That being said, I like that the truth about the night of the accident is finally being revealed. I can’t wait until Shi Hyun (and Soo Ji) know the truth that it was actually Soo ji’s Mom who caused both TH hit and run and SH Mom’s death.
I’m also loving Hye Jung & boyfriend Joo An- they are too cute. When he sang the quadratic equasions formula to her while TH looked on trying to keep a straight face-hilarious! Also loved that the turtle got some revenge on Ki Young. Haha!
