Money Flower Episode 18

My Thoughts: Money Flower Episode 18

Cast of Characters with Nutshell Details

Jang Boo Cheon (Jang Seung Jo) arrives at Pil Joo’s personal office to stop the reveal that his initial interactions with Mo Hyun were scripted by Pil Joo. He gets no answer when he calls Pil Joo. He investigates upstairs. He gets no answer when he calls Mo Hyun. But he hears Mo Hyun’s phone rings BEHIND a bookcase. Just as he’s about to investigate, Pil Joo’s right-hand man asks what he’s doing. Forced to leave the bookcase, Boo Cheon isn’t surprised when Mo Hyun and Pil Joo come downstairs. Livid that Pil Joo has spilled the beans Boo Cheon is ready to pummel him. But Mo Hyun orders her husband to come along.

Na Mo Hyun (Park Se Young) tells her husband that while their love is real, he has disrespected her by manipulating their initial relationship. She goes home and gets drunk. Boo Cheon puts her to bed and internally rages when she calls from Pil Joo in her sleep. Mo Hyun acts in haste and interrupts her mother-in-law’s meeting with Chairman Jang. She plays the tape of Chairman Jang recommending her father accept the blame and kill himself. Mal Ran is shocked by this stupid maneuver. Chairman Jang demands to know why Mo Hyun dishonored her father’s memory by playing the recording. Stunned to be on the defensive, Mo Hyun can only sputter in surprise. Chairman Jang declares Mo Hyun is no longer allowed to visit him. He orders her to go. Mo Hyun withdrawals wondering how the tables were turned so easily.

Jung Mal Ran (Lee Mi Sook) demands that Mo Hyun explain why she played that recording in front of Chairman Jang. Mo Hyun states she must know why her father took money from the company. Irked that the obvious answer hasn’t occurred to Mo Hyun, Mal Ran delivers the blunt truth; Mo Hyun’s father wanted the win the presidency above all else and he sold his ethics to the company for cold hard cash to help buy him a victory. Mal Ran orders Mo Hyun to get a grip.

Jang Boo Cheon and his mother are stunned when Pil Joo and Chairman Jang make a $500B donation a requirement before Boo Cheon can become President of the company. Knowing this is the only shot her son will ever get, Mal Ran agrees. She glares at Boo Cheon willing him to agree. He does so grudgingly. Later when Pil Joo explains the donation will garner good press and Chairman Jang needed to see their true reactions, Mal Ran accepts the explanation. Alone, Boo Cheon warns his mother that Pil Joo could betray them. Mal Ran claims she can read Pil Joo like a book and he would never betray her. But Boo Cheon knows Pil Joo’s true identity and that the betrayal has been underway for years. Boo Cheon feigns poor marksmanship and asks the chauffeur (his biological father though Boo Cheon doesn’t know this) to kill Pil Joo when he asks him to. He does all this to position himself to best Pil Joo. Boo Cheon’s dream comes true and he is crowned President of the company. Proving he can orchestrate surprises too, Boo Cheon brings his cousin back from banishment and declares they will work together.

Kang Pil Joo (Jang Hyuk) realizes that Boo Cheon’s actions are no longer simply competitive but antagonist. He and his right-hand man review the hospital footage of Boo Cheon visiting Pil Joo while he was comatose. Pil Joo sees Boo Cheon cute a lock of his hair. He realizes Boo Cheon had a DNA test done. He realizes Boo Cheon knows he’s the oldest grandson. He recalls the pointed interactions he’s had with Boo Cheon lately. There is only one thing to do…

Jang Kook Hwan (Lee Soon Jae) gets the shock of his life when Pil Joo visits him and shows him the necklace he once gave his eldest son (Pil Joo’s biological father). Pil Joo claims the right to bow to his Grandfather. Pil Joo declares that he is the eldest grandson, Eun Cheon. Chairman/Grandfather Jang, the man that likes to surprise others, is speechless.

My Thoughts.

Boo Cheon wins the crown of President. He basked in the moment. He continues to harden his heart with greed and jealously. Becoming President was the number one goal. Mission accomplished. Now Boo Cheon will turn to his second goal…eliminating Pil Joo.

Mo Hyun’s emotion-based actions make her lose ground. I was surprised when she went to Chairman Jang and played the recording. She was surprised when Chairman Jang banished her from his presence. Her lame excuse of wanting to know why her father took the cash was answered succinctly by Mal Ran. Does Mo Hyun believe that her father sold his personal ethics to become president? I’ve got to credit Mal Ran for correctly characterizing Mo Hyun as a boiling pot that could scald all of them. Mo Hyun acts rashly and without a plan. I’m worried that Pil Joo may be burned by her.

Pil Joo finally buys a clue. Pil Joo’s inability to see that Boo Cheon’s greed and jealousy put a target on his back drove me nuts. Finally, Pil Joo realized that Boo Cheon’s actions were atypical. He saw that Boo Cheon took a hair sample which could only mean a DNA test and his birth secret was known. Bravo for the bold step he took to reveal the secret himself. I CANNOT WAIT for Mal Ran’s reaction next episode!

Ranking the episodes (on a scale from 1-10) had me rank this episode as very good. My episode ranking chart is below.

I was stunned too! HUGELY stunned and disappointed that after bravely confronting Ol’ Git that she then backed down so weakly. But then I have to remind myself “It’s a different culture. It’s ingrained, etc.”

But speaking of Mo Hyun, she does seem off the chain, running around doing things without a plan. While she hasn’t broadcast Pil joo’s secret, she certainly hasn’t gone to any great lengths to try to drop her bombs without exposing him either. I’m surprised Ol’ Git didn’t ask her where she got the recording. But he’s such a master manipulator himself, that it would be revealing an admission of concern/guilt over what’s on the recording. This way, the total focus is on Mo hyeon’s lack of respect toward her elders. (I could care less with elders like these but I know it’s a big deal to S.K.-eans.)

“Mal Ran claims she can read Pil Joo like a book and he would never betray her.” kjt recap
This is what I was referring to in my response to A.D.DO!’s comment on Ep.13. Scabs told Baby Boo that he “doesn’t understand Pil joo’s long face” – meaning his always neutral expression. But we know that’s the face he’s had to wear so as to never betray his real emotions toward the Vipers. From watching them treat similar non legit children the same way that he and his brother were treated (well, except they’re alive) to enduring Scabs beautiful but evil, disgusting touch *shiver*, he’s had to adopt a mask. Scabs is right about the mask (Although she thinks that’s his natural demeanor), but Baby Boo now knows what’s hidden behind it! I don’t know what Baby Boo is waiting on by not exposing Pil joo. He knows how smart and calculating Pil joo is so it’s a bit dim for Baby Boo not to think that he needs to either hurry to actively find out Pil joo’s plan or expose him now before Pil joo has everything in place. Case in point, Pil joo having Baby Boo sell off that stock PJ needs. In fact, BB should be suspicious of anything PJ is orchestrating now and doing the opposite of whatever PJ says!

Baby Boo bringing his cousin back is a reminder of how waaayyy down deep, there’s still some of the sweet goofball left. Such a dumb move though. Cousin isn’t so much a Viper as he is a Weasel. I never felt BB truly hated his cousin and uncle, but those two are full of real animosity toward BB. I get the feeling that this would exist even if there was no company position to compete over.

How did Pil joo get the necklace? Last I saw, Scabs confiscated it from Mo hyeon. Ugh! I guess we’re supposed to take into account in our imagination that Pil joo braved Scabs intimate attentions again to lift it from her boudoir. *barf*

Ol’ Git! You’d think he’d be glad to know his favorite son’s child, his grandson, survived. Instead he had his “waiting to poop face” on again. (quote courtesy of Jane Tilly). Also, we’ll have to see about this “favorite son” stuff with regard to PJ’s dad since he’s the one who ordered pulling the proverbial plug.

Six more episodes seems like a lot to fill now that Pil joo has finally set things in motion. I’m hoping we get a good strong, satisfying wrap up to this show.

      Agreed.

She makes me nervous. She knows Pil Joo’s secret. She is talks before she thinks. Not a good combination.

      Well said.

Such a dumb move though. Cousin isn’t so much a Viper as he is a Weasel.
I can’t believe Boo Cheon thinks Yeo Cheon is trust worthy in any way.

How did Pil joo get the necklace? Last I saw, Scabs confiscated it from Mo hyeon.
I could be wrong, but maybe both Pil Joo and his brother had a necklace? Mal Ran has his brother’s and Pil Joo has his own? Likely not….

Also, we’ll have to see about this “favorite son” stuff with regard to PJ’s dad since he’s the one who ordered pulling the proverbial plug.
I found it interesting that Chairman Jang’s son agreed that pulling the oxygen was the okay thing to do. This is a messed up family.

I bet dollars to donuts, if Pil joo’s dad would’ve survived, somehow it would’ve been a detriment to Ol’ Git’s beloved company.

They both had a necklace. When KPJ found the remains of his little brother buried on the Jang’s property he found his little brother’s necklace. He was about the “burn it” I think when NMH found him, the day she recognized him as the boy she had saved as a teenager. In his memories you can see the little brother jumping up and down kissing his necklace, proud and happy that he got one just like his beloved older brother’s. This is one of the images that makes KPJ/JEC cry.

JBC doesn’t expose KPJ because even though he hates him, he loves him. It’s complicated 🙂 Other than that he probably thinks it’s a secret he can use at some point. The necklace NMH took is most likely not KPJ/JEC necklace. She probably took the little brother’s one. This drama has always felt like “its about to end” to me, but in a good way and yet not one episode has been a filler. So I’m confident the final episodes will be exciting. I will wait until its all done to declare it officially but so far, it feels this will be one of my favorites of all time.

I meant, when NMH took the necklace from the drawer per KPJ’s instructions, she didn’t take KPJs necklace which was in the safe, she took the little brother’s one.

DF, I know that I said I was only watching for Hunkie Hyuky, but the last few episodes had me jumping out of my seat shouting at the tv! The only other time I did that was when Crixus let Naevia face Asher alone in a battle to the death! (Spartcus 2010 reference for those who don’t watch gladiator shows) lol

      • Boo Cheon has a right to hate Pil Joo for his hidden agenda. Of course Boo Cheon willingly used Pil Joo believing it was his right. Don’t you think the mindset is they took in the orphan Pil Joo, shouldn’t he service them for a lifetime in repayment?
The writing of this drama is superb. A fascinating chess game between Pil Joo and the Jang family.

“I’ve got to credit Mal Ran for correctly characterizing Mo Hyun as a boiling pot that could scald all of them.” -KJT

Agreed that Mo Hyun is being reckless due to her understandably high emotions. I don’t think she understands the mortal peril she is putting herself and Pil Joo in.

Like Beez, I was a bit disappointed Mo Hyun backed down so quickly after her initial bravado in confronting the Ol’Git 👴. What happened to the cool, calm and collected Mo Hyun that soldiered on with the reveal of Baby Boo’s secret 🤐 child, and bravely proclaimed she would raise him⁉

“I found it interesting that Chairman Jang’s son [Sung Man] agreed that pulling the oxygen [from KPJ/JEC’s dad] was the okay thing to do.” KJT I strongly suspect uncle Sung Man took out his brother, KPJ/JEC’s dad, as competition to run the company. I think the Ol’Git 👴 recognized Sung Man as the winner at that time and pulled the oxygen (using or with Sung Man, who was more than willing to PERMANENTLY eliminate his competition) as the Ol’Git 👴 didn’t want to see one of his heirs as weak.

Another point I found to be revealing was when the Ol’Git 👴 in reference to being annoyed by the reappearance of the necklace said something to Scabs ✋ how he thought she had taken care of that matter without a trace … HE KNEW‼

Baby Boo was foolish to bring back weasel Yeo Cheon as an “ally” against Pil Joo. Pil Joo aside, Baby Boo will not be safe due to his birth secret 🤐 OR as chairman until the Ol’Git 👴 is dead and buried. We’ve already seen him oust his son Sung Man as the chairman when the Ol’Git 👴 was displeased.

    GOOD LUCK BABY BOO 🍼‼

I have a confession: While I want to see the Ol’ Git clutching his heart over shock of losing everything on his way to jail, (not actually dying cause he needs to experience lingering suffering like he put his illegit progeny thru), but he’s so egregiously outlandish in his arrogance that I’m finding myself admiring his bodaciousness! No matter what somebody brings to him, he refuses to be caught! Facts? Guilt? Don’t matter. I’ve stopped waiting on his comeuppance and can’t wait to see how he’ll turn things on its head and back on his accuser.

Agreed that the Ol’Git 👴 is “egregiously outlandish in his arrogance”. I haven’t seen the next episode, so I can’t wait to see how his “anticipating his next bowel movement expression” will change. I suspect Pil Joo/Eun Cheon is not likely to be embraced by the Ol’Git 👴. The Ol’Git 👴 had admired Pil Joo’s skills to be used as a tool, could it be possible he will acknowledge Pil Joo as his blood⁉

        • What I “appreciate” about Ol’Git’s 👴 “egregiously outlandish in his arrogance” behavior is his consistency. I don’t see his heart softening or his stance changing about the illegitimate members being worthy. Pil Joo is going to have to go for the jugular (in the business realm) to overcome Ol’Git .

      Your analysis is solid.

Ol’Git 👴 in reference to being annoyed by the reappearance of the necklace said something to Scabs ✋ how he thought she had taken care of that matter without a trace … HE KNEW‼
He’s the all seeing all knowing head of the Jang family. Though it must be said, their actions as a family are abhorrent.

Baby Boo was foolish to bring back weasel Yeo Cheon as an “ally” against Pil Joo
Going against Pil Joo alone was more than he was ready for. Boo Cheon’s choice of reinforcements will bite him.
