Hwayugi Episode 7 Recap

Hwayugi Episode 7 Recap

Oh Gong’s brother gives him ginseng soup to help with the cold he caught while being out in the snow. Woo Hwi Chul (Cha Seung Won) (with a noticeable wink from his detoxification) wasn’t aware that it snowed. Hwi Chul probes, is Oh Gong suffering from something else? Son Oh Gong (Lee Seung Gi) is firm it is a cold and nothing else. Oh Gong mocks Hwi Chul’s tick. He gets Bu Ja to mimic it. Hwi Chul shares that he’ll be inviting a famous movie director and Sam Jung to the house. That gets Oh Gong’s attention. Oh Gong pretends he doesn’t care. Hwi Chul looks forward to them meeting and fantasizes that they click. He hopes to make Oh Gong seethe with jealousy.

Jin Sun Mi (Oh Yeon Seo) (aka Sam Jung) tells Fairy Ha what Oh Gong said to her when the power of the bracelet was negated “Yes, you are pretty. I love you.” She notes that the way Oh Gong made the declaration had more feeling than the flat tone he typically has. Fairy Ha says she’s able to negate the ability to freeze the bracelet’s power that General Frost (her twin brother) has. Irked, Sam Jung ask if that’s what happened. Fairy Ha doesn’t directly respond but infers. Fairy Ha warns Sam Jung would be smarter to love a human than a demon. Sam Jung sputters she doesn’t love a demon.

Sam Jung is surprised to find Oh Gong waiting for her when she gets home. He gives her porridge to stave off any ill effects of being in the snow earlier. He teases her into leaving a message for his brother using the thermos. Irked she pulls out her cell phone to call his brother. She retorts that hanging out with him is making her believe his normal is her normal. Oh Gong asks if she’s miffed he tried to kill her. Sam Jung retorts he can’t with the bracelet, so she’s not worried. Oh Gong admits if she were to exit his life, his heart would shatter. He vows she won’t die unless he does. Sam Jung retorts that she finds it hard to trust his declarations due to the power of the bracelet. Oh Gong agrees the bracelet controls him. He urges her to rest, eat the porridge, and call him if she needs him. He disappears. She uses the thermos to call him but chides herself. Then she recalls his words to her in the snow. She says it was fake and she won’t believe his words. Oh Gong says (through the thermos) she’s been gullible since she was young. Irked, she hangs up the thermos. She urges herself not to be entranced by a demon.

I don’t like it when Oh Gong says Sam Jung won’t die unless he does. That telegraphs a sacrifice later in this series. I like Sam Jung’s struggle to resist the pull of Oh Gong, but it appears that she’s fighting a losing battle.

A man encounters the library’s ghost late and night. She’s pretty but has no legs. He screams.

While Oh Gong’s brother shops for seafood at the market, he encounters an octopus that claims to be the second son of the Dragon King of the East Sea, Jade Dragon. He agrees to help him.

Hwi Chul is surprised that in the box is the second son of the Dragon King of the East Sea. Oh Gong’s brother states he lost his powers as part of a punishment and was caught in a fishing net. The elder relates that Jade Dragon was punished for selling medicine to mermaids that made them human. He leaves the Jade Dragon with Hwi Chul and leaves. Irked that he’s forever taking in strays, Hwi Chul tells the elder to watch the Jade Dragon and leaves for a golf game. As the elder runs after Hwi Chul to stop his exit, the box lid opens.

Mean girl Alice gets high handed with Hwi Chul’s assistant insisting that she must speak with Hwi Chul. Predictably, the assistant considers killing her.

Hwi Chul’s assistant finds the empty box at Hwi Chul’s house. She murmurs that Jade Dragon has escaped.

Mean girl Alice is surprised when an octopus attacks her. She screams. When the lights go back on, it’s obvious the Jade Dragon has taken over Alice’s body. He’s not used to being in a woman’s body and ditches the high heels.

Hwi Chul’s assistant immediately knows that Alice is possessed. The Jade Dragon admits it.

Hwi Chul tells the Jade Dragon that he’ll intercede with his father. Jade Dragon claims he must find something first, then he’ll exit the body. Hwi Chul isn’t happy that the Jade Dragon is controlling one of his up and coming stars. When Hwi Chul’s assistant reminds him of the commercial shoot Alice has, the Jade Dragon agrees to do the commercial if Hwi Chul will help him find the person he’s looking for. Hwi Chul agrees and tells his assistant to help the Jade Dragon during the commercial and he’ll find Sam Jung. His assistant worries that he’s not ready to interact with Sam Jung. Hwi Chul assures he can handle it.

Sam Jung’s assistant wonders if she’d be interested in a blind date. He says the guy he knows would be much better than Oh Gong. He claps his hand over his mouth worried that Oh Gong can hear him say something negative about him. When Sam Jung picks up the thermos and talks into it telling Oh Gong not to bother her assistant, he thinks she’s nuts. He rescinds his offer of a blind date with his friend. He tells Sam Jung she’s too busy to date.

Sam Jung’s assistant is pleased when Hwi Chul arrives. He asks why is Sam Jung hasn’t been on TV. Hwi Chul says that Sam Jung is helping him with other events. He explains today she’ll help him with a visiting royal member. Sam Jung’s assistant is taken aback when Hwi Chul winks at him. He decides he should keep working there if someone as powerful as Hwi Chul is noticing him.

Hwi Chul explains he needs Sam Jung’s help in finding the mermaid and returning her to the sea so the Jade Dragon will be satisfied. They discuss whether or not Oh Gong’s love for Sam Jung is real. She believes it’s fake. Hwi Chul confirms that. Sam Jung says if he knows anybody that would like her, she’s interested. Hwi Chul agrees it would be best for Sam Jung to fall in love with a human, not a demon. Hwi Chul says if Sam Jung finds the mermaid, he’ll find her someone to date. He chuckles at the bonus that this will hurt Oh Gong.

Oh Gong’s brother tells him that the Jade Dragon needs him to find the mermaid. He says if Oh Gong can accomplish this, he’ll receive a mermaid’s tear which will offer him a virtual reality experience. Oh Gong isn’t impressed claiming there’s nothing that he would want to experience. Oh Gong’s brother reminds him that he could have the experience of drinking alcohol space which he’s currently banned from doing. That gets Oh Gong’s attention. He agrees to find the mermaid for the Jade Dragon. There’s no other no better bait for a demon than Sam Jung.

Sam Jung is surprised when Oh Gong shows up to help her hunt for the mermaid. He claims that he can’t let her go into any kind of dangerous situation without him. They entered the school and head to the library to find the mermaid.

The first step to finding the mermaid, is finding the man she loves. They find him working in the library. They see that he loves another human. Oh Gong comments that watching the human you love, love another, must make the mermaid want to kill him. Sam Jung’s sympathy lies with the mermaid. Oh Gong asks why is Sam Jung doesn’t have the same sympathy for him. He’s in the same position as the mermaid. Tired of the situation, Oh Gong leaves the library.

Hwi Chul is giddy that Oh Gong’s heart will be shredded when Sam Jung and the director meet. He can already imagine Oh Gong’s sorrow when Sam Jung falls for another man. His assistant suggests that Sam Jung and the director should meet without his assistance to make their feelings come to life. Hwi Chul says that’s not possible and forcing the meeting is the best thing to make it happen. The assistant recalls the director giving her pictures of Sam Jung and asking for her help in finding her. Of course, the assistant promised to give the director Sam Jung’s business card. She asks Hwi Chul which would be better, a fated meeting or an arranged meeting. When he says planned meeting would be better, his assistant smiles knowing in this instance her boss is wrong.

The director visits Sam Jung’s office, but she’s not there. He goes to her desk to leave a note and sees a picture of her as a young girl. He realizes that Sam Jung is the woman of his dreams. Thrilled, he hugs Sam Jung’s assistant who doesn’t understand anything he’s saying because he speaking English.

That was a darling scene. Even though I know the director is doomed and will not get Sam Jung’s love, I like him.

At the commercial shoot there’s male posturing between PK (Lee Hong Ki) and the Jade Dragon. But when the Jade Dragon has a wardrobe malfunction, PK gallantly drapes her in a shawl. The Jade Dragon feels a physical tug towards PK. He asks an assistant if he likes PK. The assistant is shocked and asks if she finally confessed her feelings for PK. The Jade Dragon is not happy to know the body he occupies feels feelings for PK.

Cute scene!

Oh Gong tries to decide the kind of alcohol that he’ll drink once he gets the mermaid’s tear. BJ has suggestions which makes him vacillate. He gets irritated when she suggests that he used the mermaid’s tear to reconnect with somebody that he wants loved. He pokes her pointing out she doesn’t even know who she wants was. He claims he’s going to simulate drinking and that’s all there is to it.

At the library the demon mermaid appears before Sam Jung. She douses the mermaid with water but the effect isn’t as promised. The mermaid leaves. But then the mermaid runs into Oh Gong, who gives her the knife from the Jade Dragon. The mermaid leaves just as Sam Jung sees the exchange. She asks Oh Gong what he gave the mermaid. Oh Gong demurs it was someone wanted her to have. Sam Jung asks if a human will be harmed. Oh Gong doesn’t care. Sam Jung doesn’t like that.

Sam Jung finally calls her assistant who tells her the director is waiting for her. She’s confused. She doesn’t know a director that was also a childhood friend. Her assistant puts the director on the phone. But just then the man that the Mermaid once loved walks by. Sam Jung worries the mermaid will kill him when she realizes that Oh Gong gave the mermaid a knife. She hangs up.

Sam Jung rushes to the library and sees the mermaid with the knife. The Mermaid has tears in her eyes.

Hwi Chul isn’t happy when he learns that Oh Gong gave the mermaid a knife. The Jade Dragon explains that the mermaid was discarded by a human and now wants to kill the human that discarded her. Hwi Chul is upset that he was used to harm a human. Oh Gong tells him not to sweat it, saying that the mermaid can’t harm the human.

The human unzips a body bag that reveals the mermaid complete with tail. He is startled when he sees the tail. He runs into Sam Jung. She tells him she knows he killed the mermaid. The man declares that girl wasn’t a human being. He laughs saying if the girl wasn’t human, then it wasn’t murder. Sam Jung reveals that the mermaid will get retribution. She steps aside and the mermaid is there. The mermaid plunges the knife into the man’s chest. Sam Jung says to the man that it will become a permanent thorn in his heart and hurt forever. The man falls down. Sam Jung tells the mermaid that she can return to the sea. She turns into a puddle of water.

The Elder and Hwi Chul discuss how Oh Gong helped the mermaid, but didn’t get his prize of a tear. The Elder comments that Oh Gong must have felt a similar pain as the mermaid, because he was once betrayed by human. The Elder says that Oh Gong’s reaction to that incident caused him to be banished into the house where a young Sam Jung freed him.

Sam Jung is surprised to find Oh Gong hanging out at Fairy Ha’s bar. She asks if he didn’t tell her that the mermaid would try and extract revenge, because he was afraid she would try and stop the mermaid. Oh Gong confirms this stating human can’t be trusted and therefore he couldn’t tell her the truth. Sam Jung tells Oh Gong that she doesn’t consider him pitiful like he considered the mermaid. She says even though his feelings for her or fake, she genuinely enjoys his company and likes him. Oh Gong scoffs that the man probably thought the same thing initially about the mermaid. Sam Jung promises that if she ever betrays him, he can stab her. When Oh Gong suggests they make a contract to seal the deal, Sam Jung won’t fall for that trap again. Oh Gong asks her what virtual reality experience she would want. Sam Jung admits she’d like to go back to when she was young so she can spend more time with her grandmother. Fairy Ha brings her whiskey, and Sam Jung apologizes for drinking in front of Oh GongA. He says it’s no problem, that soon he’ll be able to drink again.

Sam Jung’s assistant apologizes to the director when she does not return to the office. The director leaves the photos on her desk. He says he’ll come back another day. He asks the assistant if Sam Jung has a boyfriend. The assistant thinks of Oh Gong’s rude ways, and declares Sam Jung has no boyfriend. That makes the director happy.

The Jade Dragon refuses to return to the sea even with Hwi Chul’s escort. He claims that the knife given to the mermaid must be returned to his father or there will be trouble. Hwi Chul is frustrated that nothing is going the way he wants. His assistant cheers him up with the news that the director is already half in love with Sam Jung. She tells him that the director was liked Sam Jung when he was a young man. Hwi Chul is thrilled. Now Oh Gong will feel pain.

Oh Gong has the mermaid’s tear and the help of Bu Ja to choose the whiskey he wants to simulate to drink. She spins the wheel of alcohol and he throws the dart and hits whiskey. His brother smiles and says he’ll be at the perfect side dish. Oh Gong is all smiles.

Now that was a cute exchange that I enjoyed.

Sam Jung is surprised when she finds her grandmother sitting on her couch. The virtual reality that Oh Gong earned, is given to her. We see a young Sam Jung run into her grandmother’s arms. They kiss, hug, and cry that they miss each other. We see Oh Gong alone at his house drinking water and musing that he really wants to drink some alcohol.

Now that was a touching moment.

The next day at work Sam Jung’s assistant tells her she looks wonderful. She shares that wonderful dream about her grandmother and it made the world bright again. Her assistant remembers that a man was there for her yesterday. Sam Jung looks at him questioningly.

At a bookstore the director helps little boy get a book.

He seems like a sweet generous man.

Sam Jung looks through the photos the director left for her and finds a drawing with the caption “do you remember me”. The drawing takes her back to her childhood. She remembers the director was a young man that liked her. She tells her assistant knows a man that liked her when he was young. The assistant says he told the director that she didn’t have a boyfriend.

PK shows Bu Ja the video he uploaded of her dancing. Lots of the comments are from fans hoping she can find her family. Bu Ja says it would be nice if she knew who she once was.

We see a sleeping woman in a hospital room. She has a flyer that is got Bu Ja’s picture. The men that tried to bury Bu Ja tell the man on the phone that they found the mother, and if they kill the mother, then Bu Ja will have no one looking for her. The man smiles and says make it happen. The man is the guy from the gym. Before they killed Bu Ja’s mother, the men see the uploaded video of Bu Ja dancing. They can’t believe it.

Hwi Chul’s assistant makes sure food preparations are perfect. Hwi Chul tells Oh Gong that the director coming to the house was born in America but visited his family often in Korea. Oh Gong Claims not to space care. Hwi Chul says Oh Gong will care when he learns that this man is a dear friend of Sam Jung.

The director sees Sam Jung walking towards Hwi Chul’s house. He rushes after her.

Hwi Chul explains that the director had a crush on Sam Jung when she was a young girl. Oh Gong says they won’t remember each other. Hwi Chul counters that they’ve already met, and today will be the official reunion of these two former friends. Hwi Chul loves the fact that soon Oh Gong will be part of the drama even if he doesn’t want to be.

The doorbell rings and the assistant find Sam Jung waiting. She ushers her into the house. The director is right behind her. When Sam Jung enters the living room Oh Gong stands. Hwi Chul smiles as the director rushes in. He asks Sam Jung if she remembers him. She holds out her hand, smiles and says she remembers him. Oh Gong watches the director takes Sam Jung’s hand and they smile at each other. Hwi Chul practically does a happy dance on the couch. He sees Oh Gong’s clenched his jaw as the Director hugs Sam Jung. The director asks if Sam Jung is happy to see him. She smiles and says she’s happy to see him. Hwi Chul asks Oh Gong if this is killing him. Oh Gong admits it hurts. Hwi Chul is giddy with joy. Oh Gong tells Hwi Chul because he created this drama, he’s responsible for what he does next. Hwi Chul watches Oh Gong stride towards Sam Jung and the director. He wonders if Oh Gong intends to kill the director.

Oh Gong walks to the couple. He spins Sam Jung around and tells her that he’s happy to see her. He asks if she’s happy to see him. Sam Jung confirms she’s happy to see him. Oh Gong grabs her and pulled her into a hug. Everyone is shocked. Oh Gong pulls away and stares into Sam Jung’s eyes. Then Oh Gong kisses her. Sam Jung doesn’t know whether to respond or stay frozen in shock.

My Thoughts

I want to know why Hwi Chul and Oh Gong needle each other. These two grown men act like little boys trying to one up each other, but they don’t mind making each other feel pain, which skews cruel. If we knew their back story, we’d understand the taunting vibe of their relationship.

The parallel between the mermaid and her human and Oh Gong and his human was effective. The Hong sisters wrote two similar scenarios that showcased pain when love isn’t returned. First the mermaid’s pain when her human loved another. Oh Gong will be in a similar scenario, as he watches Sam Jung respond positively to the director who obviously has feelings for Sam Jung. The director is sweet and kind, I like him. That was an effective casting. I know he’s doomed, but it was nice for Sam Jung to smile at the memory of the oppa that liked her when she was young. Of course, Oh Gong wasn’t going to let Sam Jung fall for another man without making a move. His hug and kiss were Oh Gong’s branding of Sam Jung.

Son Oh Gong (Lee Seung Gi) vacillates between uncaring cad and generous guy. Sam Jung doubts everything Oh Gong says, and with good reason. Oh Gong tries to keep his distance from Sam Jung but he can’t help himself and appears when she needs him. I liked that he kept the knife a secret from Sam Jung. His logic that she wouldn’t understand and muck things up was sound. The highlight moment of the episode was when Oh Gong gave up the mermaid’s tear virtual experience to Sam Jung. I was touched when Sam Jung was young and ran into her grandmother’s arms for comfort and love. What is Oh Gong’s backstory of the human he cared for and was betrayed by?

Jin Sun Mi (Oh Yeon Seo) can’t stop her feelings for Oh Gong from growing. She keeps trying not fall further under his spell. In many ways, Oh Gong’s callous behavior makes that easy at times. Fairy Ha warned her not to love a demon. Hwi Chul warned the same. But Sam Jung’s heart says otherwise. While the Director is a sweet and generous man, he doesn’t stand a chance with Sam Jung. Is it too early to call it game over because Oh Gong has won Sam Jung’s heart?

Woo Hwi Chul (Cha Seung Won) dealt fairly with the Jade Dragon. He wasn’t happy to learn that the Jade Dragon had kept aspects of his mission from Hwi Chul (e.g. the knife to kill the human). He was happy when he knew that Oh Gong would feel the pain of jealously. Once we know why Oh Gong and Hwi Chul are enemies, maybe we can see them grow to frenemies. I want this to happen. Right now, their prickly relationship seems childish.

Supporting characters contribute. Fairy Ha gave Sam Jung the advice not to give her heart to Oh Gong. She probably knows that it’s too late, but it was still good advice. It interesting that Fairy Ha intimated that she countered her brother’s freeze of the necklace’s power. Was Oh Gong under the spell of the necklace when he said Sam Jung was pretty and he loved her or wasn’t he? PK and Bu Ja continue to be cute together. I liked the interactions between PK and the Jade Dragon in Alice’s body. Hwi Chul’s assistant continues to amuse. She correctly realized that the director and Sam Jung had the potential for a match. She’s proven her loyalty and is willing to eat annoying folks, if only Hwi Chul would sanction it.

Ranking the episode (on a scale from 1-10) had me rank this episode as very good. My episode ranking chart is below.

Suran sings the 4th song of the OST titled “I’ll be fine”. Per allkpop “I’ll Be Fine”, written by Armadillo and composed by Armadillo and Humbert, is the 4th OST out for the drama series. It serves as the theme song for Jin Sun Mi (played by Oh Yeon Seo) and her trials with loneliness and a hurtful past. Check it out:

Hwi Chul’s 🐂 fantasy of the childhood sweethearts reuniting reminded me Oh Yeon Seo posing with Rain in “Please Come Back Mister”

    https://popgasa.com/2016/04/14/kim-soo-yeon-jung-seul-ki-two-faces-please-come-back-mister-ost/

I like Bu Ja 🚶💀 and PK 🐷 together, but am disheartened that her body continues to rot; how long can this relationship last⁉ I feel like the revelation Alice 🐙 is crushing on PK 🐷 is a portent of Bu Ja’s 🚶💀 demise, I know, she’s already dead.

Color 🖍 me 🎊surprised🎉 Sun Mi 🌂 allowed the mermaid 🧜🏻‍♀️ to stab the evil librarian 📚. But it didn’t take much time for me to determine it was a just ⚖ punishment.

Between the Winter 🌬 General and the Summer 🔆 Fairy teasing Sun Mi 🌂 about the geumganggo being Frozen or not, she was left with ambiguity in regards to Oh Gong’s 🐒 sincerity, although she’s leaning towards sincerity. While Sun Mi 🌂 was called gullible by the Summer 🔆 Fairy and Oh Gong 🐒, I like to think of it as Sun Mi 🌂 being positive and hoping for the best. I suspect having Oh Gong 🐒 protecting her has given Sun Mi 🌂 the most hope she has had since she lost her Granny.

I think Oh Gong 🐒 showed us, although it was not revealed to Sun Mi 🌂, that he truly loved her when he gave his virtual reality experience to Sun Mi 🌂 to visit with her Granny 👵 … I hope she discovers his sacrifice. I especially ❤-ed that while Oh Gong 🐒 complained about not getting his anticipated alcohol consumption experience, he had a satisfied smile on his face thinking about the happiness 🌞 he gave his Sun Mi 🌂.

Hwi Chul 🐂 was a pompous popinjay when he thought his plan to shred Oh Gong’s 🐒 heart 💓 was working. I like Director 🎬 Jonathan, but I don’t think he could handle all the weirdness of Sun Mi’s 🌂 Sam Jang mantle, let alone protect her the way Oh Gong 🐒 can.

I💖💗💟 the shock and awe on the faces of Hwi Chul 🐂 and Secretary Ma 🐩 when Oh Gong 🐒 hugged and kissed 💋 Sun Mi 🌂. How deflated 🎈📌💢 was Hwi Chul 🐂 when his 💓 shredding plan did not come to fruition⁉ I think Oh Gong 🐒 needed Director 🎬 Jonathan as competition to step up his game. Although I have some concern about Director 🎬 Jonathan’s safety. I hope we get more episodes with the dynamic Director 🎬 Jonathan.

I concur with KJT about wanting the backstory for the animosity between Hwi Chul 🐂 and Oh Gong 🐒. I have a suspicion that either Oh Gong 🐒 had a hand ✋ in the downfall of Hwi Chul’s 🐂 lady love, Princess Iron Fan (her name according to credits), Hwi Chul 🐂 had a hand ✋ Oh Gong’s 🐒 demise or both. BACKSTORIES PLEASE ((🙏))

I think of her in positive light. It’s the demons that see her as someone to use versus cherish.

      Ditto!

  2. imberreader says:

I don’t know why, but I’m not jumping over the moon from the kiss.(But to be honest, I’ve done that very rarely. Like, there’s only few dramas that have made me super happy and giddy with first kiss and it wasn’t Goblin or Tomorrow With You or anything like that. Just Between Lovers come to mind, but it happened in, what, ep 10? So that alone marks difference in buildup and everything else.)

Not only Hwi Chul essentially set it up by being a little shit and there are three hearts involved directly in this mess, but also it’s like, she’s just happy to have met someone who has genuinely positive memory/view of her and Oh Gong just sweeps in and kisses her with no build up in that moment?

It doesn’t even feel like entirely jealousy spurned thing, it’s like a solemn lash back at Hwi Chul’s actions, like a reminder I can do anything to make him unhappy. What’s more, it feels like proclamation: if I can’t have you, then no one can. I hope I am wrong on THIS aspect.

This drama has subverted a lot of tropes regarding love spells and otherwise, but at this point I don’t even know what should be subverted – an overwhelmed aftermath, a slap? I just don’t know. I don’t know how to make it feel more meaningful in positive way that would sweep Sun Mi off her feet, other than, well, she’s being very suddenly kissed by a guy she likes.

Honestly, damn love triangles and just let Director be Sun Mi’s friend. She is in desperate need of one who doesn’t think of eating her and can genuinely support her and is not her subordinate. Of course, presence of all these demons make it hard for any real connection to be established, because there’s so much supernatural stuff going on, but still.

While I am very divided on the kiss, I did like a lot about the episode from what I saw/read, though. The apprehensive pining I saw from stills was actually exactly as I imagined it and Sun Mi went out of her way to reassure Oh Gong that should she betray him, she gives him permission to hurt her equally.

It definitely felt like foreshadowing, though, I could picture her doing a self sacrifice of sorts or purposely betraying him so he could kill her for some greater purpose.

And for all his understandable doubt and reluctance, Oh Gong did the *actually* charming thing and gave up the Mermaid Tears to create a comforting, beautiful moment for Sun Mi. That was a Pure moment that no GGG could summon, because we know GGG at this point essentially makes him ensure her physical safety and all other pressures he can stretch quite wide, so providing this was no demand of GGG, but Oh Gong’s own heart.

What’s more, he didn’t tell her or let her know in any way. It’s not ‘I’m great Sage, look what I did for you, look what this damned GGG made me do’. No, it’s his secret. (As far as I understood.) He didn’t do it to get her gratitude and/or to rub GGG’s existence in her face.

Which is just beautiful and very possibly currently highlight of their relationship for me. Especially considering what emotions and thoughts he’s been going through. (I suppose Sun Mi’s sincerity did apply a balm to some wounds and doubts.)

It reminds me of a point someone on tumblr made – both Oh Gong and Sun Mi have been betrayed, yet one remains a cynic and the other is more daring to show caring. In fact, the betrayals created prisons for both of them – for Oh Gong, he was tortured and imprisoned for what was alluded to be at least 1/10th of his immortal life and for Sun Mi with fate of Sam Jang for essentially all her life and formative years. A fate that has led them to meet again.

And I think, in this hides a key to Oh Gong’s pull to Sun Mi. They can be both sharp and in some ways merciless, but throughout the lonely and hard life, Sun Mi has kept a certain level of kindness and she is someone who ends up protecting and taking care of him in return (like, she doesn’t want ‘our’ Oh Gong to be in position he can be harmed by Hwi Chul). Him, the one who betrayed her. Perhaps, he indeed did think and sometimes wonder of the little girl he left behind and to see her having grown into this woman… I could see how it made him find admiration for her, one I think he still denies having.

On a side note… I still have no idea why Hwi Chul thought Oh Gong would just stand in shadows and weep of breaking heart with something like that happening. Like, he has known Oh Gong for few thousand years if not more…. I cannot compute this.

(Also, absolutely agree on wanting/needing more backstories and I think this will be one thing the drama will deliver.)

    • Jane Tilly says:

This episode established that Sun Mi 🌂 and Oh Gong 🐒 love each other, but I don’t see it as being in love with each other … yet.

Later in the episode Oh Gong’s 🐒 love 💗 was demonstrated by giving his cherished virtual reality experience to Sun Mi 🌂 in lieu of his own desired experience. I thought his satisfied smile was telling. I concur Sun Mi 🌂 “doesn’t want ‘our’ Oh Gong [🐒] to be in position he can be harmed by Hwi Chul” 🐂. In efforts to protect her own 💓, she keeps denying her feeling for him.

Imberreader I concur the kiss 💋 was NOT swoon-worthy. It seemed to me the kiss 💋 was Oh Gong 🐒 “marking” Sun Mi 🌂 as his, which is NOT romantic.

I hope “Oh Mi” 🐒🌂 couple will realize their feelings for each other and give us swoon-worthy kiss 💋 soon.

      • imberreader says:

I am glad I am not only one. I am sticking like glue to every glimpse of actual build up of their relationship instead of them being hey, we’re already ocean deep in love. There is some, of course, like each time they spend together, we inch closer, but there’s a long way to go, too.

And indeed “Oh Mi” better do that soon! ❤ I love how their emojis are monkey & umbrella together. Your emoji game is on point as always, honestly.

        • Jane Tilly says:

          Thanks.

I REALLY want “Oh Mi” 🐒🌂 to build a deeper 💕 relationship sooner rather than later. I’m jones-ing for some legit “Oh Mi” 🐒🌂 swoon-worthy 💋kisses💋.

Recently I was disappointed 😫🍇 in the lack of relationship development in “Revolutionary Love” and the false hint of a relationship in “Mad Dog”. I hope Hwayugi delivers 💌.

        • You are not alone. I want romance, not “insta-love”.

JT, loving the money/umbrella OTP emoji. 🐒🌂 Perfection!

    • I don’t know why, but I’m not jumping over the moon from the kiss
Agreed. I consider that kiss branding not romantic.

Hwi Chul essentially set it up by being a little shit … she’s just happy to have met someone who has genuinely positive memory/view of her…damn love triangles and just let Director be Sun Mi’s friend.
Sun Mi has gotten the short end of the stick too many times. I’m irked that everyone (I’m looking at you Hwi Chul) USES Sun Mi but doesn’t care about her. She deserves a friend. I like the director. As you noted, romance between Sun Mi and the director are not needed, friendship is.

he didn’t tell her or let her know in any way. It’s not ‘I’m great Sage, look what I did for you, look what this damned GGG made me do’. No, it’s his secret. (As far as I understood.) He didn’t do it to get her gratitude and/or to rub GGG’s existence in her face.
Good point. Oh Gong didn’t brag about his honorable action. When the young Sun Mi ran into her Grandmother’s arms, I was touched.

both Oh Gong and Sun Mi have been betrayed, yet one remains a cynic and the other is more daring to show caring.
      I like that analysis.

Sun Mi has kept a certain level of kindness …Perhaps, he indeed did think and sometimes wonder of the little girl he left behind and to see her having grown into this woman… I could see how it made him find admiration for her, one I think he still denies having.
The bracelet is the forcing function for Oh Gong really seeing Sun Mi’s heart, and that’s a good thing.

I still have no idea why Hwi Chul thought Oh Gong would just stand in shadows and weep of breaking heart with something like that happening.
Their relationship seems be and endless game of one-upping each other. I want more.

absolutely agree on wanting/needing more backstories and I think this will be one thing the drama will deliver.
I hope so. The Hong Sisters have fleshed out Bu Ja’s story (secondary character) more than Hwi Chul’s (lead character).

Also, we, as watchers, know that Oh Gong wqas most likely free of GGG’s power when he said those words at end of last ep to Sun Mi. WE saw the bracelet being frozen. Summer Fairy said she could’ve thawed only to sow some seeds of doubts in Sun Mi’s heart so she wouldn’t fall for our foolish monkey even more so.
