Mad Dog Episode 11 Recap

Mad Dog Episode 11 “Help Me”

Hyun Gi flips through photos of the Mad Dog Team. He pauses on Noo Ri and declares he’s special. Why? Because he’s the chief prosecutor’s son. Chairman Cha and Hong Joo tells Hyun Gi it is against the rules to go after someone’s family. Hyun Gi looks at Chairman Cha pointedly. Obviously, he’s inferring that Chairman Cha killed his father. Hyun Gi suggests that Chairman Cha let him take care of the Mad Dog Team. Hong Joo declares she’ll handle the Mad Dog Team. Chairman Cha stares at Hyun Gi and agrees to let him nullify the Mad Dog Team. Hong Joo isn’t happy. Hyun Gi taunts that she looks like someone just took a favorite toy.

The Mad Dog Team banters while they eat and drink. When they bump fists in the center of the table, Kim Min Joon (Woo Do Hwan) realizes they consider him part of the team too. He puts his fist in the mix. Everyone smiles, laughs, drinks and eats. Choi Kang Woo (Yoo Ji Tae) notices On Noo Ri (Kim Hye Seong) is distracted.

At the convenience store, Kang Woo asks Noo Ri what is wrong. Noo Ri states his father is about to make a move.

Park Soon Jung (Jo Jae Yun) is irked that the drunk Min Joon is asleep on his shoulder.  Ha Ri stops him from face planting into the table. Jang Ha Ri (Ryu Hwa Young) struggles to get him back to his apartment to sleep it off. They fall to the floor in his bedroom. Min Joon stares into her eyes and declares he can’t let her be hurt. He falls asleep. Ha Ri tries to rouse him.

The next morning Min Joon wakes on his bed. He grabs his head and recalls Min Joon bringing him back to the apartment. He sees a body covered in blanket next to him. He pulls the cover back and reveals…Soon Jung. Min Joon yells and tells Soon Jung to get out.

Soon Jung states he stayed to protect him. Min Joon complains to Ha Ri for leaving SR with him. Kang Woo chuckles at their bantering. They learn that Noo Ri is taken a leave of absence for family matters.

They watch Hong Joo apologize for not properly paying the unpaid claims at a press conference. She promises to make it right and deeply bows.

After the press conference Hong Joo gets a call from Hyun Gi who wants to know how humbling it was to bow. He tells her he’s preparing a gift.

It is revealed that Hyun Gi is dining with the Chief Prosecutor.

Some men surround Noo Ri.

The chief prosecutor tells Hyun Gi he’ll make his move soon.

Noo Ri texts Kang Woo that he’s been caught. Kang Woo tells the rest of the team who Noo Ri’s father is and that they will come for the team. He advises everyone to claim he is the leader and responsible for everything. Ha Ri agrees. Min Joon asks what they are doing. The chief prosecutor’s team arrives.  They arrest Kang Woo for breaking and entering the insurance company. They tell Min Joon, Ha Ri and Soon Jung to come in for questioning. They handcuff Kang Woo.

The chief prosecutor hits Noo Ri and declares he isn’t a member of his family. He orders his men to take Noo Ri somewhere where there is no internet. Noo Ri holds his face as his father leaves.

The prosecutor says there is ample evidence of crime. Kang Woo says he did it all on his own.

Ha Ri claims that Kang Woo did everything on his own. Soon Jung claims that Kang Woo did everything on his own. Min Joon claims he can’t speak Korean and sings.

Kang Woo claims he did everything by himself. The chief prosecutor watches and decides to interrogate him personally. He shuts down the camera. Kang Woo greets him. Kang Woo asks why everyone on his team wasn’t arrested. The chief prosecutor says that the insurance company and JH airlines have become a thorn in his side. He asks if Kang Woo can help him. Kang Woo is interested and willing.

Chairman Cha tells the legal counsel he was surprised the chief prosecutor let Kang Woo and his team go after a few hours in custody. He wonders what went wrong. He muses that Hyun Gi never knew love from his father, that must be why he doesn’t understand you don’t touch another’s family.

Angry Hyun Gi vows to take down the Mad Dog Team. He fixes his gaze on Ha Ri.

Kang Woo, Soon Jung and Min Joon discuss what happened. Kang Woo relays how Noo Ri warned him about the upcoming arrest and his decision to allow his father to capture him. Kang Woo recalls telling Noo Ri that if his father caught him it would be difficult to extract him. Noo Ri’s response was to ask Soon Jung to find him regardless of the difficulty.  Soon Jung is irked that Noo Ri never shared his family background after 2 years working together.

Min Joon asks if Kang Woo provided the chief prosecutor the evidence he needed. Flashback to Kang Woo telling the chief prosecutor about the original insurance policy for Min Joon’s brother, the pilot of the doomed aircraft, held by JH airlines and the original black box, held by the insurance company. Immediately the chief prosecutor understands the mutual destruction Chairman Cha and Hyun Gi maintain on each other. Kang Woo slides the video of the original insurance police to the chief prosecutor. He asks what the chief prosecutor will do. The chief prosecutor states if he needs to reinvestigate the airplane crash, he will. Min Joon doesn’t believe it will happen. Min Joon states they must get the black box footage. Kang Woo suggests they spook Hang Joo so that she’ll bring the black box footage out of the insurance company. Kang Woo smiles and says he’ll take care of that.

Hyun Gi meets with Ha Ri and claims to be upset that she impersonated an art dealer. He threatens her with saying the Min Joon was her accomplice in the art dealer impersonation. Min Joon calls her. Ha Ri doesn’t answer the phone even though Hyun Gi encourages her to. Min Joon can’t believe Kang Woo let Ha Ri meet Hyun Gi alone. Kang Woo reminds Min Joon he said to trust her. Hyun Gi thanks Ha Ri in advance. Min Joon is livid when he finds her. She notes that his appearance in the Mad Dog Team’s orbit put them all at risk. She drives away. Min Joon can’t help but feel the pain of her rejection. Hyun Gi watches the exchange from his car.

Hyun Gi meets with the chief prosecutor who asks about the original insurance policy. Hyun Gi tells him that doesn’t matter. The chief prosecutor mentions Hyun Gi’s succession. Hyun Gi counters that the chief prosecutor should keep his son safe.  We have a standoff!

Soon Jung wants to find Noo Ri. Ha Ri recommends they leave Noo Ri safe. Soon Jung is adamant that they find Noo Ri no matter the cost or risk. Ha Ri and Kang Woo agree.

Noo Ri turns on a tracker in his hat. Soon Jung, Ha Ri, and Min Joon go to find him. They realize the Noo Ri may be held in a mental hospital. Sensing the tension between Min Joon and Ha Ri, Soon Jung feigns sleep. Ha Ri surprises Min Joon by speaking German. When he spills his drink, she offers a Kleenex. He finds his handkerchief in her glove compartment box. She slams it shut. He smiles. She smiles. Soon Jung smiles.

Manager Park reports about the unpaid claims that should be approved. She approves them. She wonders if he’s upset that she bounced him for Kang Woo. Manager Park claims that he’s doing the business of the insurance company.

Kang Woo and Hong Joo meet. He tells her he used to consider her family. He asks if she knew that there was a problem with the plane. He tells her he knows that she would never let his wife and child get on a defective plane. Hong Joo blurts she didn’t do it. Kang Woo says he needs to know who caused the accident. He admits he thinks Hyun Gi is the one at fault. Hong Joo says Hyun Gi can’t be touched. Kang Woo assures her that Mad Dog Team can take down Hyun Gi. He tells her they know about the original insurance. Now they only need the black box to prove the aircraft was faulty.

While sitting outside the mental hospital, Noo Ri is surprised to see a former bully from high school. The guy takes his cap and throws it on the ground. The guy points out that several of the inmates are rich heirs. He throws the cap that Noo Ri has put back on his head back to the ground.

Once a bully, always a bully.

Soon Jung applies to work at the mental hospital. He’s thrilled when he is hired to start that day. He has to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Soon Jung reports the non-standard agreement to Ha Ri and Min Joon. He says he thinks the hospital is a fraud. He recommends the 2-1-9 approach. Soon Jung has to end the call so he can start his shift. Min Joon and Ha Ri wonder what their next move should be. Ha Ri calls Manager Park and reports that the mental hospital is a fraud and should be raided and exposed. He can’t help but smile in anticipation of the raid. Ha Ri gives Min Joon a suit so he can infiltrate the mental hospital. She also changes. Sweetly he blocks the rear-view mirror while she changes.

Soon Jung spies Noo Ri being bullied by the other boys. He gives Soon Jung the 2-1 hand signal. Noo Ri nods his understanding. Soon Jung seethes at Noo Ri being bullied.

Hong Joo considers what Kang Woo said about exposing JH’s culpability through the black box footage.  She calls her father’s secretary and learns that he is meeting with Hyun Gi.

Hyun Gi says he’ll squash the chief prosecutor before they complete the management succession at JH. Hong Joo enters and gets Hyun Gi to leave. She tells her father not to be greedy and take over JH airlines. Her father scoffs at her suggestion.

Min Joon and Ha Ri wait in the car. Min Joon notes it is almost 9pm. Manger Park arrives. He shows them the claims that put the heirs in the mental hospital so they could avoid the mandatory 2-year military service. Min Joon and Ha Ri say it is time.

Manager Park has no choice but to follow Min Joon and Ha Ri into the mental hospital. He can’t believe when they impersonate insurance company employees down to the fake business cards. Manager Park states he’s there for the claims fraud them. He explains there were irregularities in the claims filed from the mental hospital. They try to get rid of the trio but an alarm goes off. Min Joon smiles knowing Soon Jung is at work. A nurse rushes in a declares a patient is acting up. They manager runs off. Ha Ri calls the emergency number and asks for backup. Ha Ri, Min Joon and Manager Park find Soon Jung trying to calm Noo Ri down who has the bully in a head lock and hold a knife. Manager Park asks if Noo Ri is really nuts. Min Joon counters he’s upset at being bullied again. Min Joon suggests they create a diversion and extract Noo Ri. He gets Manager Park to give him his lighter. Min Joon and Manager Park leave the room. Ha Ri sets down her bag and holds up 5 fingers to Soon Jung. She leaves the room. Min Joon puts on Noo Ri’s cap and put the lighter under the smoke alarm. Min Joon sees this and returns to the room. She nods that all is ready. The fire alarm goes off.  Soon Jung throws a fresh set of clothes to Noo Ri. The bully falls to the ground.

Manager Park explains to the police that fraudulent claims were submitted so rich heirs could avoid their military service. Manager Park sees Soon Jung, MR, Ha Ri, and Min Joon exit the building.

Noo Ri sheepishly tells them that he was routinely locked up with the diagnoses of schizophrenia. The bully has followed them and yells at Noo Ri. Soon Jung wants to punch him but Ha Ri tells him not to get in trouble and risk jail. Ha Ri goes to punch the bully but Min Joon stops her. Instead Min Joon approaches the bully who sneers that Min Joon must be Noo Ri’s lackey. Min Joon counters that he is Noo Ri’s friend. He punches the bully. Min Joon grabs his hand. That punch hurts. Min Joon and Noo Ri smile at each other.

Hong Joo gives Kang Woo the original black box footage. She makes him promise not to come after the insurance company. Kang Woo assures her that the insurance company didn’t know about the defective plane, only JH airlines did. Kang Woo leaves.

Chairman Cha ponders Hong Joo’s recommendation that he not be greedy and try and take over JH airlines. He calls his assistant and learns Hong Joo entered his office after he left. In a panic he returns to the office, checks his secret safe, and finds the black box gone. He’s livid.

Kang Woo copies the black box. He calls Ha Ri and tells them to go to dinner. Ha Ri asks Noo Ri to find the current location of Hyun Gi. Min Joon asks why Kang Woo wants that information. Soon Jung declares they need to celebrate Noo Ri’s extraction. Min Joon wonders why Kang Woo wanted Hyun Gi’s location.

A livid Chairman Cha calls Hong Joo and demands to know why she took his property. Calmly Hong Joo says that Kang Woo won’t betray them. Chairman Cha can’t believe his ears. He says that Kang Woo fears nothing and just used her. He hangs up. Hong Joo calls Kang Woo and tells him her father knows. She asks where he is. Kang Woo says he’s going to meet with Hyun Gi. Hong Joo’s eyes widen in shock. She demands to know what he plans to do. He tells her to wait and see.

Kang Woo meets Hyun Gi at a bar.

Chairman Cha calls his legal counsel.

Min Joon wonders where Soon Jung and Noo Ri are. His hand hurts from throwing the punch. Ha Ri applies ice. Min Joon tells her she’s pretty. Surprised he said what he thought out loud he covers saying her necklace is pretty. Flustered, he tells Ha Ri he’ll get them coffee.

Noo Ri asks Soon Jung when they will join Min Joon and Ha Ri. Soon Jung says they’ll wait until Kang Woo arrives. Noo Ri sees Min Joon walking down the street.

Hyun Gi asks why Kang Woo has watched him drink for 30 minutes. Kang Woo counters with the statistics of the crash. Kang Woo declares that he wasted the last 2 years not knowing the truth. He plays the actual voice from the tower. Hyun Gi is surprised and asks where he got that. Hong Joo bursts into the room. Hyun Gi asks if she gave him the black box footage. Kang Woo stand and says he’ll be in contact soon. He warns Hyun Gi that if anyone on his team is hurt, he’ll kill him. Hong Joo stares at Kang Woo knowing she just got played. Kang Woo gives her a stony stare and leaves.

Chairman Cha mutters to himself that Kang Woo wasn’t supposed to hurt his family.

Min Joon walks with the coffee. Noo Ri startles him. Min Joon scolds him for speaking to him casually. Noo Ri counters that he might let him, and might consider him a friend or maybe one day call him Hyung. Min Joon walks ahead. A man comes out of the parking lot with a scarf in his hand. Noo Ri stares at the man. He remembers Min Joon being stabbed. He calls to Min Joon, referring to him as Hyung. Noo Ri steps in front of Min Joon just as the man passes. The man stabs Noo Ri (though the intended target was Min Joon). Unaware of Noo Ri’s injury, Min Joon asks what that was about. Noo Ri stares at the blood on his hand. Min Joon sees the blood on Noo Ri’s hand. Noo Ri falls to the ground.

Ha Ri picks up the phone and asks Min Joon when he’s returning with the coffee. Min Joon’s voice breaks as he says her name. Ha Ri knows something is dreadfully wrong. Min Joon asks for help. He drops the phone. He screams for help.

My Thoughts

Noo Ri’s real family is the Mad Dog Team. Writer Kim Soo Jin anchored Noo Ri to the Mad Dog Team. They are the ones that accept him for who he is, don’t bully him, and care for him. Even Min Joon was touched when Noo Ri called him Hyung, something Min Joon didn’t do with his own brother and a regret he’ll never be able to change. Family is more than blood and this episode showcased that fact.

The Mad Dog Team – Ha Ri, Kang Woo, Moo Shin, Noo Ri, and Min Joon showed their allegiance is to each other and pursuit of the truth. Their team work shone. Their comradery glowed. Kang Woo is the undisputed leader now that Min Joon has come into the fold and accepts this.

Chairman Cha, his daughter Hong Joo, and Hyun Gi went another round “who has the power”?  Just when I discounted Hong Joo as having any feelings or faith left for Kang Woo, she surprised me by buying Kang Woo’s claim that he’d never hurt the insurance company and only expose JH airlines and Hyun Gi. With that flimsy statement, Hong Joo pilfered her father’s safe and handed Kang Woo the original black box. Chairman Cha couldn’t believe it. He set retribution in motion by sic’ing the legal counsel on Min Joon. Even Hyun Gi had to be surprised when Kang Woo played the damning audio between the doomed plane and the tower. When Hong Joo arrived he immediately knew she’d handed the goods to Kang Woo. I must say I relished Kang Woo’s threat to Hyun Gi not to hurt his team. Hyun Gi continues to fascinate me in a way that Chairman Cha doesn’t. He is unrepentant yet charming. I’m enjoying watching this trio ebb, flow, and implode.

Choi Kang Woo (Yoo Ji Tae) literally talked Hong Joo into handing over the original black box. Kang Woo’s pledge not to go over the insurance company was an outright lie, But Kang Woo sold it and Hong Joo bought it, hook, line and sinker. Kang Woo took command this episode. No longer is he behind the power curve. Noo Ri told him that his father would arrest him and the Mad Dog Team. Kang Woo was ready for it. Kang Woo supported the rescue of Noo Ri. Kang Woo offered the chief prosecutor a lifeline to extract himself Chairman Cha’s and Hyun Gi’s clutches. Kang Woo boldly warned Hyun Gi not to mess with his team. Little did Kang Woo know that Chairman Cha had already sent a hitman.

Kim Min Joon (Woo Do Hwan) started to fill the void of family with the Mad Dog Team. Min Joon let his guard down when he admitted he found Ha Ri pretty, when he was touched by Noo Ri calling him Hyung, and the fist bump of the team. I’m going to quibble with Min Joon’s reaction after Noo Ri was stabbed. Min Joon is cool as a cucumber. He wasn’t inebriated. Yet he couldn’t choke out the words that Noo Ri was stabbed to Ha Ri.  I don’t fully buy it.

Jang Ha Ri (Ryu Hwa Young) knows Kang Woo trusts her. She met Hyun Gi with Kang Woo’s knowledge. She was understandably bothered by the charming creep. Ha Ri continued to get confirmation that Min Joon cares for her. He came after her when he learned she was meeting Hyun Gi. He was cute to her when she dragged him back to his apartment. She was flattered when he called her pretty. They are working the couple aspect well. Frankly I’m surprised the Min Joon is the emotional one while Ha Ri has been the calm one. I did get a kick at her rude summons to Manager Park to come to the mental hospital. Manager Park got a kick out of it too. When Ha Ri and Min Joon flashed their insurance company business cards, Manager Park was shocked and impressed by their gumption.

Park Soon Jung (Jo Jae Yun) had to rescue Noo Ri and I loved it. He infiltrated the mental hospital and spotted Noo Ri being bullied. He bristled that his buddy was being hassled. The absolute faith between Soon Jung and Noo Ri was a highlight of this episode. Soon Jung is also aware of the building relationship between Min Joon and Ha Ri. He does all he can to allow it to blossom.

On Noo Ri (Kim Hye Seong) needed rescuing and the Mad Dog Team did not disappoint. I was pleased the Kang Woo already knew about Noo Ri’s father. I couldn’t believe that Kang Woo would be ignorant. Noo Ri knew Soon Jung would come and get him. He was right.

Ranking the episodes (on a scale from 1-10) had me rank this episode as terrific. My episode ranking chart is below.

At last the leadership of Team Mad Dog has been officially established as described by KJT: “Kang Woo is the undisputed leader now that Min Joon has come into the fold and accepts this.”. I 💗 the comradery of the team. Min Joon is officially a team member.

When Min Joon woke up the next morning after Ha Ri took him home, I thought “no way is it Ha Ri” under the blanket next to him in bed 🛌. Ha ha ha😄‼. I totally cracked up it was Soon Jung, much to Min Joon’s displeasure‼

I can understand Min Joon and Kang Woo’s concern 😟 about Ha Ri meeting with Hyun Gi by herself. The gleefully scheming Hyun Gi is SCARY 😱😨‼

Does or will Hong Joo rue trusting Kang Woo⁉. How will Kang Woo’s actions upset the power play between the Affably Evil chairman and gleefully scheming Hyun Gi⁉

This was Noo Ri’s episode from his biological family ties, being bullied 👊💢 backstory along with a current occurance as well was his loyalty to his “true” family, Team Mad Dog. There had been no 🚫🕵 clues until last episode that Noo Ri’s Dad was the prosecutor. While Noo Ri’s “Dad” seemed to be annoyed 😒 about being caught between the insurance company and the airline 🛩, is “Dad” REALLY loyal to chairman Cha?

While Ha Ri held back Soon Jung from retaliation, KUDOS to Min Joon for punching 👊💢 out one of Noo Ri’s bullies. It is clear Noo Ri considers Min Joon to be his hyung as Noo Ri stepped in front of Min Joon to protect 🛡 🚫🗡 him.

I completely concur with KJT about Min Joon’s lack of composure “I’m going to quibble with Min Joon’s reaction after Noo Ri was stabbed. Min Joon is cool as a cucumber. He wasn’t inebriated. Yet he couldn’t choke out the words that Noo Ri was stabbed to Ha Ri. I don’t fully buy it.”

    ✳PLEADING FOR NOO RI’S RECOVERY✳ ((🙏)).

As a side note 🎵, I’m surprised Affably Evil chairman Cha uses a lawyer as a Hitman, instead of using a lawyer to contact an actual Hitman to do the deeds; isn’t this lawyer too close of an associate to connect the dots ⚫–⚪ back to himself⁉…or is the Affably Evil chairman counting on the dots ⚪–⚫ to connect the mayhem to Hyun Gi⁉

I can’t believe how much roguish charm he manages to have. I know he’s a bad guy, but he’s got personality too.

While Noo Ri’s “Dad” seemed to be annoyed 😒 about being caught between the insurance company and the airline 🛩, is “Dad” REALLY loyal to chairman Cha?
One positive about this series is that all the infighting and position jockeying. Everyone has their own agenda. Makes it much more interesting than one villain that everyone cow-tows to.

It is clear Noo Ri considers Min Joon to be his hyung as Noo Ri stepped in front of Min Joon to protect 🛡 🚫🗡 him.
      That was a sweet moment.

      ✳PLEADING FOR NOO RI’S RECOVERY✳ ((🙏)).
Ditto. We don’t need Noo Ri to be the sacrificial lamb. Everyone has enough grief from the past to deal with, present day grief isn’t needed.

As a side note 🎵, I’m surprised Affably Evil chairman Cha uses a lawyer as a Hitman, instead of using a lawyer to contact an actual Hitman to do the deeds; isn’t this lawyer too close of an associate to connect the dots ⚫–⚪ back to himself⁉
My take is that the lawyer is a trusted alley who believes if you want the job done right, do it yourself.

Agreed that the jockeying 🏇 for position does make this series interesting and a bit unpredictable, which are both good thing‼

Villian Hyun Gi does have some roguish charm, it may slightly soften his evilness.

It is interesting that both the villians, the Affably Evil CEO and the roguish charmer seem to be so charming in their quest for money 💰 and power 💪 as the leave a wake 🌊 of collateral damage.

Hyun Gi would have been an excellent son to saddle Chairman Cha with.

I concur that the actor’s charisma plays into how the role is portrayed AND “Hyun Gi would have been an excellent son to saddle Chairman Cha with.”. Hahaha 😜‼

Beez, you were ⚫-on coining Hyun Gi as “welcome” as KJT stated “when Hyun Gi is in a scene. He’s going to spice the scene with his own evil charisma.” Excellent phraseology ladies 👏

I agree with y’all about Hyun Gi. The actor is relatively unattractive AND he’s playing an evil character. Yes, I can’t stand him (because I’m not supposed to be able to stand him) yet he’s welcome when he’s on my screen. Unlike some villains where they annoy you to the point you grit your teeth when you see them and sometimes it’s so bad, it carries over to the actor.

Remember the issues we had with how unlikable the mom was in Legend of the Deep Blue Sea even though she was written as likeable? And in that same show actress Shin Hye-Sun was written as unlikable but you just couldn’t full on hate her?

I think the likeable or not factor is what determines whether actors who play villains or small roles transition to leading roles or not. (Shin Hye-Sun is starring as the lead in My Golden Life right now.)

I like the term “welcome” that is spot on when Hyun Gi is in a scene. He’s going to spice the scene with his own evil charisma.

      That’s an interesting conclusion.

Yeah, Min joos’s reaction to the stabbing rang false with me too. I’m okay with him being emotional, but not to call 112 in order to get life – saving help there as soon as possible? No. It would’ve played better if Ha ri had called him at that crucial moment instead of him (wasting precious moments) calling her.

I tried to downplay it in my mind by saying “he’s a foreigner”, but he’s too smart and aware, able to manipulate peoole and corporations but he doesn’t know the emergency medical assistance 3-digit phone number? Nah.

Writer Kim has created a cool Min Joo that is fighting his emotions. The dam bursting at that moment and immobilizing him, seemed a bit much.
