My Thoughts — Strongest Deliveryman— Episode 9
When Lee Dan Ah (Chae Soo Bin) comes to the eatery she stunned who she finds there. Choi Kang Soo (Go Kyung Pyo) declares he can’t leave. e promises to stay until she emigrates. He doesn’t turn the moment romantic. The chef of the eatery Jang Dong Soo (Jo Hee Bong) and the prickly Soon Ae (Lee Min Young) are equally surprised that Kang Soo has stayed. Soon Ae assumes Dan Ah begged him to stay.
Dan Ah gives Kang Soo a piece of her mind but he ignores he. He gently teases and deftly uses rock, paper, scissors to get Dan Ah smiling as he helps her with deliveries, cleaning the English school, and the dishes. Dan Ah is not immune to Kang Soo’s charms.
Oh Jin Gyu (Kim Sun Ho) has the daunting task of making his new franchise the most successful. Grandmother’s eatery with the support of the moonlighting deliverymen is cutting into his business. Kang Soo tells Jin Gyu he’s glad they are back to being friends. But he’s straightforward that his support is for Grandmother’s eatery. They agree to battle in the business arena.
Kang Soo and the other deliverymen decides to target groups to get walk in traffic into Grandmother’s eatery. It goes well until the deliverymen bosses find out about their employees working two jobs. They fire the deliverymen. Dong Soo has the opposite reaction. He’s pleased that Kang Soo is supporting Grandmother’s eatery. He remembers his eatery wouldn’t have survived without Grandmother’s support. Soon Ae agrees and they press Dan Ah to also provide delivery support.
Lee Ji Yoon (Go Won Hee) stuns Kang Soo when she shows up at the eatery wearing the dress that Dan Ah gave Kang Soo and Ji Yoon took when she wrongly assumed Kang Soo got the dress for her. Dan Ah is her normal self and gives Kang Soo a pert attitude. Ji Yoon calls Dan Ah for her insolent treatment of a co-worker. Dan Ah can’t believe this young thing is schooling her. Kang Soo manages to defuse the situation by shooing Ji Yoon outside. Dan Ah demands to know why Ji Yoon was wearing the dress she gave Kang Soo. He doesn’t want to admit the embarrassing truth, but Dan Ah wrings out back story of Kang Soo’s relationship with Ji Yoon.
Ji Yoon can sense there is something going on between Kang Soo and Dan Ah. Wisely Jin Gyu stays out of Ji Yoon’s speculations. He does like that Ji Yoon comes to him for advice, even though he has none to offer.
Hyun Soo (former comatose friend) wishes Kang Soo could met his mother. Recall last episode we learned that Hyun Soo’s mother is Kang Soo’s long lost mother. But mother doesn’t want to meet Kang Soo. She can’t bear meeting the son she left all those years ago. She sobs her pain, unable to face her past actions with her son so near yet so far.
Ji Yoon decides to fight Dan Ah for the honor of Kang Soo. Ji Yoon is no match for Dan Ah who has to do very little to best Ji Yoon.
When Kang Soo learns that Grandmother has taken out a loan with the loan sharks from the gang Dong Soo lead but walked away from he realizes a new plan is needed. He tells Dan Ah the time has come to implement his business plan called Strongest Deliveryman. He goes to the fired deliverymen and lays out his plan. They agree to join him in the venture. They all done suits and shades and strut down the street.
This show is almost a throwback to a sweeter shows of the past. Writer Lee Jung Woo has crafted a group of quirky characters that are all nice and want to do the right thing. Kang Soo is the ethical leader and right now he can’t let Grandmother lose her livelihood to the loan sharks or Ji Yoon’s mother who has given Grandmother an 30 day eviction notice.
Choi Kang Soo (Go Kyung Pyo) abandoned his self-imposed deadline to leave the neighborhood and focused on saving Grandmother’s eatery. He can’t let her succumb to the loan shark or the new building owner. When Kang Soo declared he was very angry, I only saw a strong determination. In order to save Grandmother, Kang Soo revealed he has a plan. Is he going to organize all the deliverymen and provide eatery’s a single company to hire deliverymen from? Kang Soo gently prodded Dan Ah to accept his help and concern. He promised he’d stay in the neighborhood until she emigrates. She couldn’t believe the commitment he made, but his heart wouldn’t allow him to leave her. He’s wise not to pressure Dan Ah. Inside he was supportive and gently nudged her to accept his help. He managed to avoid major hot water when he was straightforward with Dan Ah about Ji Yoon’s one sided romantic interest in him. I love this character’s honesty and honor. Kang Soo mother’s knows who he is. How long until Kang Soo meets his mother? Will he recognize her on first sight?
Lee Dan Ah (Chae Soo Bin) was surprised at Kang Soo’s declaration to stay. She tried to remain immune to Kang Soo’s charm but that was easier said than done. I was thrilled Dan Ah and Ji Yoon FINALLY met. Having them bicker over Kang Soo put them on opposite sides. I had to chuckle when Ji Yoon tried to physically duel with Dan Ah. Poor girl never stood a chance against the martial arts expertise that Dan Ah possesses. Dan Ah had to do little to best Ji Yoon. We also learned Dan Ah’s roommate is a karaoke singer and isn’t teaching late night yoga classes.
Lee Ji Yoon (Go Won Hee) bought a clue that there was something going on between Dan Ah and Kang Soo. I like this character and don’t want her to languish in a fantasy that Kang Soo will be hers. Ji Yoon now knows Kang Soo is drawn to another. She didn’t think about it but she turned to Jin Gyu whenever she faced a sticky situation. How long for Ji Yoon to stop liking Kang Soo and be open to Ji Gyu?
Oh Jin Gyu (Kim Sun Ho) is fighting to beat Kang Soo’s support of Grandmother’s eatery. I had to laugh at Jin Gyu’s perspective that Kang Soo was helping Grandmother take his customers. Jin Gyu doesn’t see that his franchise is wrecking havoc on Grandmother. I like the easy rapport Jin Gyu has with Kang Soo, Dan Ah, and Ji Yoon. But he needs more to do.
