My Thoughts — My Sassy Girl — Episode 10
At the end of my recaps I have a “My Thoughts” section where I summarize my opinions. For shows that I’m not writing detailed watch-n-blog recaps, I’m writing a “thought-cap.” I just finished the next episode of My Sassy Girl.
Nutshell Summary: Princess Hye continues on the path to marrying the Crown Prince of the Qing empire. He requests a banquet so he can propose to the Princess. Poor Kyun Woo suffers every time he must interpret for the Crown Prince. The Crown Prince makes inroads with Prince Wonja. The Princess continues to believe she must marry to ensure her brother’s place as heir apparent. Kyun Woo decides to investigate how the marriage offer came to be. He finds the Qing ambassador has made back door deals. He exposes this to Officer Kang. When the Princess hears that Kyun Woo was in a scuffle she hurries to find him but he’s already there. In the garden, Kyun Woo tells the Princess he thinks she cares for him. He assures her he cares for her. He kisses her.
My Thoughts
Kyun Woo (Joo Won) still longed for the Princess but took action to find out how the marriage was negotiated. Kyun Woo found the stash of goods showing there were behind the door agreements and payments in the form of goods. It was good to see Kyun Woo take action. He’s been held in check but decided to pursue his own line of investigation. I enjoyed when he deftly turned down evil Minister Jung Ki Joon’s new life path offer. I liked that he involved Officer Kang, another protector of the Princess. What’s with Kyun Woo’s nightmares about the princess as a young girl? His mother told his father the nightmares have begun again. I was glad to see Kyun Woo declare his feelings for the Princess. Their kiss was the standard lip press but it happened. The question is simple – how can this couple have a chance?
Princess Hye Myung (Oh Yeon Seo) felt the vice tighten as marriage to the Crown Prince looms. The Crown Prince’s write to each other instead of speech to communicate was clever and eliminated the need for Kyun Woo. The Crown Prince must sense the vibe between the Princess and Kyun Woo. I don’t dislike the Crown Prince. His gift and story about his mother touched Prince Wonja. That matters to the Princess. She knows the Crown Princess is a nice guy, just not the guy she wants as her husband. Once again the Princess was bested by evil Minister Jung Ki Joon. He’s the master manipulator and she can’t compete. Her efforts have only put her more firmly under his control. Like father, like daughter.
New writer Yoon Hyo Je delivered an episode gave our couple their first kiss. Kyung Woo couldn’t hold back and took the Princess in his arms. The odds are stacked against these them. Too many outside forces are in play.
Ranking the episodes (on a scale from 1-10) had me rank this episode as good. My episode ranking chart is below.
The fourth song of the OST has been released. Check out “Like a Destiny” by Ben.
When Kyun Woo interpreted the Imperial 👑 Prince’s “I could make your wish 🌠 come true” Princess 👸 Hye Myung looked at Kyun Woo as if those words were his own and not belonging to the Imperial 👑 Prince. I was relieved the 👑 Prince took Kyun Woo’s refusal to translate diplomatically, as the declaration should truly come from the Imperial 👑 Prince. I wondered if the Imperial 👑 Prince had an inkling ✨ of the tension in the air between Princess 👸 Hye Myung and Kyun Woo.
I’m ❤-ing that rascally playboy 👯 (Choon Poong?), a Scarlet 💠 Pimpernel-type character, who seems to be on the 👑King’s side by providing good intelligence to Officer Kang.
I loved the Dowager 👑 Queen calling out Evil Stepmommy Queen for being happy to send Princess 👸 Hye Myung away to Qing. When Evil Stepmommy Queen was ranting 🗣 and trying to calm herself, I harkened back to Seinfeld character George Costanza shouting 🗣 his mime “SERENITY NOW!” LOL!
Kyun Woo was incredibly bold to not only reject Minister Jung’s career path offer, but told him that he must believe those who say the minister is over the 👑 King. Based on Kyun Woo’s nightmares 💭 about a young 👸 Hye Myung, it would appear they came across the aftermath of the deposed 👑 Queen’s massacred caravan. The OTP having a childhood connection is stereotypical plot device to strengthen a relationship in Kdrama. I ❤ that Kyun Woo uncovered the conspiracy of the Qing envoy and corrupt ministers, although it looks like the minister caught red ✋ handed will end up taking all the blame…too bad cuz’ I’m chomping 🐴 at the bit to see Minister Jung get his due.
Speaking of the Jung family, I find it ironic that Da Yeon ignores Kyun Woo’s polite ‘NO THANKS’ and is flat out rude to her persistent suiter … I said it before and I’ll say it again .. Da Yeon deserves to be alone. I dislike 🚫❤ that Kyun Woo’s mother and sister for pushing him to make a ❤ connection with Da Yeon. ✳🆖 ALERT✳ I noticed at marker 38:50 (from the beginning) there was a banker’s style 💡 lamp on Kyun Woo’s table, I noticed the electrical cord.) I think this lighting fixture doesn’t quite fit the Joseon time period.
When the Imperial 👑 Prince was ‘sparring’ 🗡 with Kyun Woo, it seemed like they were fighting over Princess 👸 Hye Myung. The Imperial 👑 Prince’s expression while fighting was not as kind as he has been shown to be so far. I think the Imperial 👑 Prince is really a decent man who truly cares about Princess 👸 Hye Myung’s happiness. The fallout from the envoy scandal will be interesting; I think it will give the King 👑 an opportunity to not send Princess 👸 Hye Myung to Qing. How will the Imperial 👑 Prince react? Hopefully and opportunity will open the way for our OTP to have a chance. Meantime, I am pleased that Kyun Woo kissed 💋 Princess 👸 Hye Myung, letting her know he likes her.

I think utilizing writing versus Kyun Woo’s translation was evidence that the Crown Prince sensed the pull between the Princess and Kyun Woo.

Choon Poong is loads of fun as he helps team good.

Kyun Woo was bold to say what he said. If Kyun Woo found the Princess after the massacre, was his father with him?

I’m glad the Crown Prince is a nice guy and not aware of the political maneuvering that got him there. He won’t be pleased if the King allows his daughter to avoid marrying him. I am most interested to see how the marriage will be avoided. A romance ending with marriage to Kyun Woo seems impossible at this point.

After seeing Kyun Woo’s nightmare 💭, I asked myself “If Kyun Woo found the Princess 👸 after the massacre, was his father with him?”. Kyun Woo’s father is a very discreet 🤐 man. I could see him hiding the deposed 👑 Queen and keeping it 🤐 from the King 👑.

Excellent point, his father could have been the one hiding the queen.
