Lookout – Episode 12

My Thoughts — Lookout — Episode 12 (split episodes 23-24)

At the end of my recaps I have a “My Thoughts” section where I summarize my opinions. For certain series, instead of a recap, which is a blow-by-blow of the episode, I’m writing a thought-cap of the episode.  I just finished the next episode of Lookout.
Each of the Lookout 16 episodes are split into two. Per Han Cinema…MBC’s latest Monday/Tuesday drama “Lookout” is a 32 episode run…It is a part of a new test split that both MBC and SBS are trying.

Nutshell recap:

Evil Father’s story: Prosecutor Jang Do Han reveals who he is to evil and powerful prosecutor Yoon Seung. He cackles that he’s got him dead to rights. Soo Ji batters Detective Nam when he tries to throw Kyun Soo’s mother’s body into the river. Kyun Hoo finally has the confirmation that his mother is dead. In a surprise twist, Prosecutor Yoon calls in a favor from Prosecutor Kim’s father to act as Detective Nam’s attorney. Turns out that Prosecutor Kim’s father was the judge in the trial against Do Han’s father. As Prosecutor Yoon directs, Prosecutor Kim’s father threatens Detective Nam citing his wife’s interrogation as proof that Prosecutor Yoon won’t allow Detective Nam to turn against him. Detective Nam hangs himself. Do Han now has one less witness to testify at Prosecutor Yoon’s confirmation hearing. Prosecutor Kim can’t believe it when he learns his father was the attorney of record for Detective Nam and refuses to divulge who hired him. Do Han tells Soo Ji that she must watch Prosecutor Yoon’s confirmation hearing live. On the day of Prosecutor Yoon’s confirmation hearing, Do Han is arrested. He laughs knowing Prosecutor Yoon just eliminated him from being a witness at Prosecutor Yoon’s confirmation hearing.

Evil Son’s story: Yoon Shi Wan know has Team Leader Kim’s daughter completely under his control. When Soo Ji realizes this, she risks meeting Team Leader Kim’s daughter to warn her that Shi Wan killed her daughter and is lying to her. Soo Ji searches Shi Wan’s room and finds a drawing of Shi Wan’s hand on her daughter’s shoulder just before he pushed her off the roof . Team Leader Kim’s daughter won’t listen to warnings. She asks Shi Wan if he is a killer. Predictably, he denies it. Predictably, she believes him. He implores her to keep their relationship a secret. As they walk down the street together, Shi Wan dares Soo Ji to watch all she wants because she won’t be able to stop him from doing what he wants.

My Thoughts

Prosecutor Jang Do Han (Kim Young Kwang) is now openly gunning for Prosecutor Yoon. The gloves are off and Do Han’s intentions are clear. I have a hard time watching the once meticulous Do Han falter. His witnesses are now compromised, either dead (Detective Nam) or deals made (Prosecutor Oh), by Prosecutor Yoon. He is arrested. Who will testify against Prosecutor Yoon now? I’m betting he intended himself as a witness against Prosecutor Yoon. Was he going to confess to being the witness to Shi Wan leading Soo Ji’s daughter into the building? Is that why he told Soo Ji to watch?

Detective Jo Soo Ji (Lee Si Young) warned Team Leader Kim’s daughter against Shi Wan but it feel on deaf ears. Soo Ji’s search of Shi Wan’s room yielded two chilling drawings. The first was a happy Soo Ji and daughter. The second was Shi Wan’s hand on her daughter’s shoulder just before he pushed her from the roof. Soo Ji’s saw Shi Wan’s mother knew her son’s monstrous ways. But when Soo Ji confronted Shi Wan’s mother, she was a lioness protecting her flawed evil son. I can’t explain how much Shi Wan creeps me out. His father is horrible, but he plays in the adult world of power and manipulation having others do his dirty work. But Shi Wan enjoys luring, grooming, then destroying his prey. And he does it with an innocent face that hides the monster.

Hacker Kong Kyung Soo (Key) grieved his mother’s loss and laid her to rest. Kyung Soo retrieved the evidence Detective Nam tried to get rid of. In the bag, he found his mother’s body. Bo Mi gave him sage advice of reaching out to his father and brother for the funeral. Exhausted when he laid on his bed he found Bo Mi. Startled they dithered then agreed to share the bed. I had to laugh when a surprised Soo Ji found them sleeping peacefully the next morning. There are so few moments of humor in this series, it was like a breath of fresh air.

“I see everything courtesy of CCTV” Seo Bo Mi (Kim Seul Gi) told Kyung Soo to contact his family his mother’s death.  She reminded Kyung Soo he still has a family to reach out to while her family is dead and she’s forever alone. Wisely he took her advice. It was cute when he took to her real estate office to check out the house he’d be renting for himself, his father and brother. Her assumption that he might be thinking of living with her was adorable. These two are providing the romantic element to this series.

Prosecutor Kim Eun Joong (Kim Tae Hoon) learned his father was Detective Nam’s lawyer. He assumed his father was ha straight arrow of honor. Now he is suspicious that his assumption about his father is wrong. While I’m sorry that Prosecutor Kim’s father is just another tool for Prosecutor Yoon to use, it was an excellent twist.

T
eam Lead Lee Soon Ae (Kim Sun Young) is unaware of her daughter’s friendship with Shi Wan. Evil son Yoon Shi Wan has plans for her daughter.  He knows Soo Ji is watching him. He believes he cannot be stopped. Will Soo Ji tell Team Lead Lee? Will Soo Ji be able to thwart Shi Wan?

New writer Kim Soo Eun allowed Prosecutor Yoon to gain the upper hand. All the hard work to gather evidence against Prosecutor Yoon has gone up in flames. What a disappointment.

* Ranking the episodes (on a scale from 1-10) had me rank this episode as very good.  My episode ranking chart is below.

    Episode 23

This time the “gotcha” grin has changed to a grimace of Joy-Pain. Kudos actor-who-I-don’t-like.

What made Do han’s dad kill Do-han’s step-mom? I think they said stress from the torture but the only way I find that halfway palatable is if he was in a PTS backflash and thought mom was Det. Nam. Otherwise, stress is not an excuse…

Heart dropped to see who Prosecutor Kim’s abeogi is.

Well if the cyber team is stumped because of a 16 character passcode, they are no more use than I would be! I thought Hackers at that level used different methods to crack codes besides the same one I would use of just trying all the possible variables until you finally land on the right one. lol I’m semi joking because I do realize that many numbers and characters would probably take something like 20 years or more in actuality without a computer’s help.

Unfortunately, I’m thinking Do han’s testimony against Worm Face won’t count because it’s tainted by his own revenge agenda against the father.

Why is Worm Face not reformatting his phone but wants Soo ji to see? I thought it was to torment her that he’s hanging around Mentor-Cop’s daughter but he turned the phone over when she came into view this time.

    Ep24

I don’t see why Soo ji doesn’t record Mentor-Cop’s daughter walking with Worm Face and send it to get friend. That way Mentor-Cop can ship her daughter off to America until WormFace is convicted and behind bars.

Prosecutor Kim’s dad sure talks a good uprighteous game to his son.

WormFace’s Moth Mom – Yeetch. She makes me want to hock up a bunch of phlegm.

WormFace is doing stuff to rebel against his father. And I wonder what’s up with the big blank canvas that he and his mom called a “painting”? *warped l’il sh*t*

    • What made Do han’s dad kill Do-han’s step-mom?
I would have thought Detective Nam murdered her on Prosecutor Yoon’s orders. He didn’t want her to recant.

Do han’s testimony against Worm Face won’t count because it’s tainted by his own revenge agenda against the father
Truly, all his efforts seems to have yielded little concrete evidence.

but he turned the phone over when she came into view this time.
I took that be selective viewing. He doesn’t want Soo Ji to warn Team Lead Lee and remove his prey.

Great idea to keep Team Lead Lee’s daughter out of his clutches.

WormFace is doing stuff to rebel against his father. And I wonder what’s up with the big blank canvas that he and his mom called a “painting”?
I agree his actions centered on his father. I wonder if he has a sketch in mind for after he murders Team Lead Lee’s daughter. I’m still creeped out by the drawing of him just about to push Soo Ji’s daughter.

I think you’re thinking of Hacker Boy’s mom, right?

As far as I know, Do han’s mom had no info but is a side effect victim. Right?

        • You are correct, I was thinking of Kyun Soo’s mother not Do Han’s mother. Sorry for the confusion. I concur that Do Han’s step-mother was just another loose end to tie up in Prosecutor Yoon’s mind.

          • Beez says:

@kjt -no,no, no – lol Do han’s step mom was killed by Do han’s dad (unless there’s a twist in there and Do han’s dad was framed).

Kjt, you’ve got too many dramas going. lol Believe me, you know I understand cause I’m not recapping or doing any of the busy things you do, and usually you guys have to remind me what’s going on.

          • Beez says:

Plus, for some strange reason, I keep mixing up the crimes from Lookout and Suspicious Partner and these shows are nothing alike!

    • Jane Tilly says:

“What made Do han’s dad kill Do-han’s step-mom?
I would have thought Detective Nam murdered her on Prosecutor Yoon’s orders. He didn’t want her to recant.” I’m also curious to know the motivation for Do Han’s dad to kill his stepmom. Wasn’t it Kyung Soo’s mom who was murdered by Det 🕵 Nam in covering up the No. 🇰🇵 Korea spy scandal⁉

I concur Do Han’s testimony would not be worth much after the fact; it would seem like part of his vendetta 🔫💪😎 against Chief Prosecutor Yoon. I wish 🍀 Do Han would have been able to stop Yoon Na’s death or stepped forward as an 👁‍🗨 witness from the beginning and put the mini psycho in a mental hospital 🏩, behind bars, or somewhere to protect other children from his EVIL intentions.

I was glad to 👁👁 Soo Ji recognized Shi Wan was grooming Soon Ae’s daughter, Se Won, as his next victim and bait for Soo Ji. I think Beez’s idea 💡about sending a recording of 🐛👦 with Se Won to her mom Soon Ae. Although I’m not sure if it would be effective; does working Mom Soon Ae has the 💰 or time to keep rebellious teen Se Won away from Shi Wan (AKA 🐛👦).

I hope Team Justice can mitigate Shi Wan’s nefarious intent. Se Won has been duped by the charming psychotic 🐛👦. Shi Wan is a despicable cretin.

I’m confused about the blank canvas “painting” 🖼 and find 🐛👦’s drawing of him just about to push Yoon Na VERY disturbing, his mother looked horrified when she saw it, but continued to whitewash 🎨 her son’s deeds rather than at least getting professional psychiatric 🛋 help for her psycho son.

OMO, Prosecutor Kim’s dad, former Chief Justice, is wrapped up in Yoon’s corruption‼. Eun Joong will be DEVASTATED when it is revealed his dad, the former Chief Justice, actively participated in the cover-up of the No. 🇰🇵 Korea spy scandal‼. Did Eun Joong’s dad suggest Nam kill 💀 himself to protect his wife⁉.

At last Do Han’s charade 🎭 is OVER‼ Unless Do Han changed his name legally, which is not 🚫 likely 😒, I wondered how long he will continue to be a prosecutor. I think we got the answer when Do Han was arrested 🚔 at the end of the episode; Do Han’s prosecuting days are over. I hope he dotted his “i”‘s an crossed his “t”‘s. Stick a fork 🍴in him; he’s DONE‼

      • Beez says:

“…does working Mom Soon Ae has the or time to keep rebellious teen Se Won away from Shi Wan… Jane Tilly

Girrrrrrl, you know how it is when it’s your kid, you find a way. And Korean moms are no joke. The reason that I didn’t say transfer schools but said she should ship her off to America/Canada/Australia (although Australian may be too easy to travel back & forth) is that that teen has been fed “the crack”. She’s had to be the outcast because of her mom’s profession and now The pop popular guy has drawn her into his web. (I didn’t say “circle” as he’s unwilling to let his friends know “he likes her”). *gagging as I typed those last 3 words despite the quotes”. Anyway, with her catnipped-cracked out, she would sneak to meet him as long as she’s in S. Korea. There would be no way to protect her from herself.

So mom would have to borrow or draw on her pension or whatever she has to…

      • Beez says:

“Did Eun Joong’s dad suggest Nam kill himself to protect his wife⁉.” Jane

Yup. Yup, he did. Unless it’s a misdirect for us, because Ratface Yoon told Pros. Kim’s dad to remind Det. Nam about the money Nam tucked away under his wife’s name and how his wife going to jail would leave his very young child(ren) alone. Now I’m not sure if Prosc. Kim’s dad thought that meant “keep quiet” or “kill yourself” but he’s definitely complicit and passing along threats (at the very least). And we know he’s guilty and in cahoots about Do han’s dad or he wouldn’t be representing Det. Nam in the first place.

Oh Nos! Will Prosc. Kim lose his “fight for justice but only righteously” ideals after 1) learning about his dad on top of 2) what he’s already learned from Do han that “the system doesn’t work”?!

      • Jane Tilly says:

Beez I’m sure I would find a way to protect my precious child from a predator. The problem is I’m not sure Soon Ae is fully aware of Se Won being 🌿😻”catnipped-cracked out”

I feel bad for Prosecutor Kim; having his paternal role model for being upright embroiled 🔥 in corruption and continuing to cover-up 🙈🙉🙊 rather than come clean.🗣

        • Beez says:

@Jane Tilly – that’s why I said Soo ji needs to send her friend video of WormFace all up in her daughter’s face.

Yeah. I imagine Prosc. Kim’s dad probably started out righteous so taught Prosc. Kim these values; but along the way, dealing with corruption, he lost his way. No way he wants his son to see that. What little they’ve hinted at, Ratface Yoon and Prosc. Oh, framed Bong hee’s dad. Prosc. Kim’s dad was the judge (I think) but once elections came about, out of fear of losing his prestigious job (and maybe his reputation) he caved. smh

      • I was glad to 👁👁 Soo Ji recognized Shi Wan was grooming Soon Ae’s daughter, Se Won, as his next victim and bait for Soo Ji…Shi Wan is a despicable cretin.
Grooming is the perfect word. It fits his creepy violent intent. I fully endorse Shi Wan as a cretin!

I’m confused about the blank canvas “painting” 🖼 and find 🐛👦’s drawing of him just about to push Yoon Na VERY disturbing
The drawing was difficult to see. I can’t imagine the knife that went through Soo Ji’s heart when she viewed it.

Eun Joong will be DEVASTATED when it is revealed his dad, the former Chief Justice, actively participated in the cover-up of the No. 🇰🇵 Korea spy scandal
Prosecutor Kim’s ethical father isn’t as ethical as he thought. That must hurt.
