My Thoughts — My Sassy Girl — Episode 8
At the end of my recaps I have a “My Thoughts” section where I summarize my opinions. For shows that I’m not writing detailed watch-n-blog recaps, I’m writing a “thought-cap.” I just finished the next episode of My Sassy Girl.
Nutshell Summary: Evil Minister Jung Ki Joon manipulates and maneuvers this episode. He manipulates the King to fire Kyun Woo. He maneuvers Princess Hye to meet the Crown Prince of the Qing empire. He maneuvers Kyun Woo to act as the interpreter for the Crown Prince’s visit. The episode ends with Princess Hye looking lovely and meeting the Crown Prince while Kyun Woo looks on knowing the woman he cares for is close to being engaged to another.
Evil Minister Jung is a better chess player than anyone else. He’s been doing it for over 10 years. He’s able to bend the King to his will when he wants to. The Princess tried to stand up to him. Minister Jung used her Achilles Heel, her brother Wong the heir apparent.
Kyun Woo (Joo Won) paid a price for helping the Princess. Kyun Woo got the double whammy. The King fired him and the Princess told him to leave her alone in the future. Last episode I said I didn’t see any romance yet. Kyun Woo evolved to thinking about the Princess as woman he wanted. But he’s stuck without any power. He can long for her, but he can’t touch, especially with her future husband coming to the palace to check the Princess out. He bravely and sweetly supported the Princess’s search of the National Archives to find the truth about her mother, but the records were blank for that year. How can Kyun Woo stay in the Princess’ life if he doesn’t have a position in the palace?
Princess Hye Myung (Oh Yeon Seo) gambled and lost. She went to Minister Jung to get leverage through Master Min’s letter but the tables were turned when her brother’s position was threatened. Now she may be forced to marry and move. I enjoyed the flashback of the Queen’s manipulate ways and how a now older Princess was able to tell the Queen to take a hike with her threat of her brother. She wasn’t able to do the same with Minister Jung. When the Princess realized that Kyun Woo got fired because he helped her, she wasn’t happy that he omitted the truth (he lied) of his punishment from her father. But she cares for Kyun Woo, so she sacrificed her need for his friendship and support when she told him not to approach her again. Now she’s alone and not savvy enough to navigate the Jung infested waters of the palace political scene.
New writer Yoon Hyo Je delivered an episode that forced our couple apart. Kyung Woo is in a difficult spot without access to the Princess anymore. The Princess is in a difficult spot on the edge of being engaged to a Chinese Prince which would force her to leave her country. How many times an episode are Young Shin and Byul Yi asked where the Princess is. It’s almost like late 80’s children stories Where’s Waldo? except it is Where’s the Princess?
Ranking the episodes (on a scale from 1-10) had me rank this episode as good. My episode ranking chart is below.
