Tomorrow With You Episode 6 Recap

Song Ma Rin (Shin Min A) now knows the So Joon funds the charity “Happiness” his parents started. Ma Rin now knows So Joon’s parents died in the subway explosion.

Yoo So Joon (Lee Je Hoon) now knows that now his future self has disappeared. He goes to Doo Sik’s apartment but there is no answer when he knocks. He drives home upset that the future isn’t what he imagined it would be after marrying Ma Rin.

Ma Rin waits for So Joon outside the house. When he drives up, she comments that she didn’t want to go into the house without him. He jokes he should put up a sign “Flower’s House” (recall Flower is his nickname for her). They smile.

Ma Rin finds a news story about an anonymous donor that helps others. She watches it with So Joon. She remarks that those that help others are cool in her book. They are like the super hero Batman who protects the city without anyone knowing his identity. In bed, she tells So Joon that if Batman had a wife, he could share his burden and talk smack about the joker. Ha! Ma Rin hopes that So Joon will confide in her that he’s the financial backer for the charity but he doesn’t say anything.

Doo Sik reads the note that So Joon left him.

Ma Rin manages to talk So Joon into acting as her model as they shop in the grocery store. He feels awkward. I feel awkward for him. Ma Rin relates that she wants to take pictures that show the real person, not the shiny exterior.

Ma Rin submits the pictures of So Joon as her portfolio Se Young, Se Young’s father, and the other guy to review before selecting a photographer for the charity “Happiness”. Se Young snipes that she could take better pictures on her phone. Ma Rin overhears this just before she enters the room. Se Young tells Ma Rin that she doesn’t understand why she only had personal pictures in her portfolio. Ma Rin explains that the charity is about helping people, not only building houses. Ma Rin wants to focus her work for the charity on those that are helped. Everyone likes the concept but Se Young. Ma Rin sees Se Young’s reluctance to accept her as the photographer.

Ma Rin calls So Joon to tell him the good news that the charity “Happiness” selected her to be their photographer. So Joon is surprised but unable to talk longer because he’s on a subway. Just before he time travels he hurriedly ends their phone call. Ma Rin is taken aback at So Joon’s lack of reaction. Se Young’s father invites her for tea.

twy_ep6_1602 twy_ep6_1601
Se Young’s father admits he feels badly for telling Ma Rin that So Joon funded the charity knowing that So Joon keeps this a secret. He asks if that news upset her. She shares that he was also the first one to tell her that So Joon’s parents died in the subway explosion she escaped. Now Se Young’s father is surprised. Ma Rin wants to do good work just like So Joon does. Se Young’s father is pleased they’ll be working together. Ma Rin assumes that So Joon kept his philanthropic choices a secret from Se Young and Ki Doong too. Se Young’s father doesn’t confirm or deny this.

In the future…
So Joon goes to his house that is abandoned. His journal is still missing. He calls then texts Ki Doong that he wants to meet and talk. But he gets no response.

As So Joon walks away from the house he recalls how it took him 3 years to get comfortable with time travel and direct where in time he wanted to go. He time travels again and again, trying to find the time frame that house was occupied. He finally hits the spot where the house is still being lived in. He finds his journal. The last entry questions why Doo Sik taught him about time travel and Director Kim. Hmmm, that’s interesting. I knew that Director Kim would assert himself on the plot. I like that the future So Joon learns more about Doo Sik (whatever that is) but that this is mentioned along with Director Kim surprises me. Is Doo Sik connected to Director Kim not Ma Rin? At least I’m assuming the journal entry references Doo Sik and Director Kim, not only Director Kim.

Present…

Director Kim has a secret meeting so he gives his assistant the night off. OMG!!! Director Kim meets with Doo Sik. What?! Director Kim admits to being surprised that Doo Sik wanted to meet. Doo Sik comments that Director Kim met him in So Joon’s office the other day. Doo Sik boldly suggest that Director Kim become his partner. What?!

So Joon arrives at Ki Doong’s home. He chides Ki Doong for ignoring his phone calls in the future. Ki Doong tells him he wants a quiet life. He wonders how long So Joon can keep the time traveling a secret from Ma Rin. So Joon says that Ma Rin would be too curious about their future. Ki Doong believes the So Joon could tell Ma Rin a happy version of their future. So Joon shakes his head, they don’t have a happy future ahead of them. So Joon wants to shield Ma Rin from the future as much as possible. Another example that he cares for her.

So Joon ponders what he learned through his time travels. He disappeared on December 31, 3 months in the future. Interesting this is another 3-month time increment. Recall when he learned they were married when he jumped 3 months into the future. So Joon doesn’t understand what happened that would make him leave Ma Rin.

When So Joon arrives home Ma Rin greets him. She has found an automatic vacuum in the attic and has it cleaning. She’s amazed by this product that one of So Joon’s research buddies gave him. She chides him for abruptly hanging up on her when they spoke earlier.

twy_ep6_2700twy_ep6_2701
Later, she asks why he hasn’t commented about her being a photographer for the charity Happiness. He tells her to do a good job. She comments that she likes Se Young’s father. So Joon asks if Se Young’s father said anything about him. Ma Rin asks what would Se Young’s father tell him. So Joon doesn’t answer. Instead he asks how Ma Rin would react if one day he disappeared. Ma Rin says she’d wait for him. She doesn’t understand why he’s asking. So Joon says that he wants them be together always, like they’ve been best friends since birth. Ma Rin is pleased. So Joon admits if she left him, he would be devastated. Ma Rin realizes that So Joon has fallen for her.

Gun Sook meets So Ri and other friends of Ma Rin. She’s not happy to hear that Ma Rin won’t be joining them. She grouses that So Joon is too good to be true. Why doesn’t anyone know about So Joon’s background, his family, etc.?

At the charity Happiness Ma Rin is thrilled to get her first assignment. Ma Rin is not thrilled when Se Young wants to meet for a drink.

twy_ep6_3000 twy_ep6_3001
It’s cold as ice as Ma Rin and Se Young can’t find common ground. Ma Rin bluntly tells Se Young that she aware Se Young does not like her. Se Young doesn’t refute that claim. She asks Ma Rin if she wants to know why. Ma Rin doesn’t care. She’s used to people not liking her. It’s not her problem. Grudgingly Se Young offers her glass to be clinked. It’s time to drink!

When So Joon arrives, Se Young is resting her head on the table and Ma Rin is nowhere to be found. Se Young is seriously drunk which surprises So Joon. Se Young pushes away his hands on her shoulders and his concern. When Ki Doong arrives So Joon tells him he’s got to find Ma Rin. He tells Ki Doong to take Se Young home.

Se Young is so drunk that she mistakes Ki Doong for So Joon as they walk (he walks, she staggers) down the road. She demands to know why So Joon married Ma Rin. Ki Doong stays patient but he doesn’t like the obvious pain Se Young is in over So Joon’s marriage.

twy_ep6_3700
When Ma Rin gets home she’s tries to find So Joon but he’s not there. She finds a magazine from the future under the couch. She doesn’t realize it but wonders why the president on the magazine cover is a different man than the country’s current president. When So Joon returns home, he’s shocked to find Ma Rin with the future magazine. She asks why the magazine cover features another man as president. So Joon distracts her saying she’s drunk and he whisks her into his arms to put her to bed.

When Ma Rin wakes up, So Joon is sleeping peacefully next to her. She goes into the living room and wonders by So Joon lied about the magazine. She recalls how So Joon always know the upcoming weather. She recalls the ramen that was in development. She recalls the self tying shoes. She watches the vacuum clean the floors. She remembers Se Young disputing that So Joon has friends in research. Ma Rin is startled when So Joon enters the room and asks her to return to bed.

twy_ep6_4101 twy_ep6_4100
Ma Rin tells So Ri that So Joon is keeping secrets. She’s decided So Joon is not Batman but rather Hong Gong Dil (a Robin Hood during Korea’s Joseon Dynasty, and a 2008 kdrama based on the book of the same name). Ma Rin worries that So Joon could be doing illegal things fund his charity. So Ri mentions that Gun Sook comments that So Joon is a mystery and their quick marriage was odd. Ma Rin has to agree theirs was a quick marriage. So Ri encourages Ma Rin to take her questions to So Joon.

At work So Joon gets a text asking who he likes better – Batman or Hong Gong Dil. So Joon shakes his head. Director Wang sees him in the hallway. Ki Doong passes and sternly tells So Joon they need to talk.

twy_ep6_4500 twy_ep6_4501
On the roof, Ki Doong tells So Joon he’s upset because he gave his family money. So Joon defends the gift saying he only wanted to help send his sister to graduate school. Ki Doong doesn’t want his charity and tells him never to do this again. So Joon laughs at Ki Doong’s intensity. Ki Doong can’t believe that So Joon is not taking this as seriously as he wants. So Joon manages to cajole Ki Doong out of the worst of the anger. He asks Ki Doong to meet him at home on 12/3, no matter what. He promises to explain things at that time.

Ma Rin’s mom stops by the housing hoping to garner an invitation to dinner. Ma Rin tells her mother she needs to speak with So Joon, and tonight is not a good night for a family dinner.

Ki Doong wonders why So Joon was adamant they meet in 12/3. Nonetheless, he marks the date on his calendar.

Future – 12/3…
twy_ep6_5000twy_ep6_5001 So Joon goes to Ki Doong’s house. He’s there. So Joon admits this is awkward but he needs to tell someone. He confides that he’s going to disappear. Ki Doong knows this. He tells So Joon that he went abroad to live after he broke up with Ma Rin. So Joon is startled to learn this. Ki Doong states the So Joon and Ma Rin had a rocky marriage from the get go. So Joon asks if Ma Rin found out that he was a time traveler. Ki Doong doesn’t know that. He only knows that So Joon moved abroad after breaking up with Ma Rin. Ki Doong says that their marriage was never registered. Ki Doong says that So Joon stopped communicating with him. So Joon can’t believe any of this. He declares he wouldn’t do these things.  Ki Doong takes his hand and tells him to break up with Ma Rin now and save both of them the pain. So Joon stares at the sincere face of his friend. He can’t believe this.

Present….
Ma Rin waits for So Joon to come home. He hasn’t called or texted. Her mother offers to sleep over.

Future – 12/3…
So Joon rushes to the subway but it’s closed. He’s stuck in the future for until the subway opens in the morning. So Joon walks alone. He sees Ma Rin walking alone. He walks behind her. A motorcyclist whizzes close to her and she falls down. She runs when the motorcyclist recognizes her.

Present….
Ma Rin steps outside the house. She texts So Joon asking where he is.

Future – 12/3…
So Joon walks alone in the snow.

Present….
Ma Rin texts that she’ll wait for him.

Present on the left of the screen…Future on the right of the screen…

Ma Rin waits outside the house for So Joon….So Joon waits outside the house.

Present…
Ma Rin can’t believe that So Joon stayed out all night and never called or texted. She gets dressed to exercise. Her mother boasts she used to look just like Ma Rin. Puzzled, Ma Rin comments she’s seen all the old pictures, her mother never looked like her. Her mother backtracks and claims she was referencing the inner person. Ha! When So Joon walks up the street Ma Rin’s mother rushes to him. Ma Rin turns and strides away. Ma Rin’s mother suggests he sleep at home in the future.

twy_ep6_5601twy_ep6_5600
So Joon runs after Ma Rin. He tells her something came up. He assures her it wasn’t planned. Ma Rin tells him there isn’t a law stopping him for staying out after marriage. She heads off to exercise.

But all is not well, So Joon doesn’t want to sleep in separate rooms. Ma Rin says they need space. So Joon claims he got drunk and passed out at Ki Doong’s house. Ma Rin tells him she’s not going to nag him or pry. She suggests they delay registering their marriage. So Joon recalls future Ki Doong telling him that his marriage to Ma Rin was never registered and he went overseas after they broke up.

twy_ep6_5801 twy_ep6_5800
Ma Rin tells him she’s working at the charity Happiness next week. She stares at him. She asks if he has anything to tell her. So Joon says nothing. Ma Rin says she heard he started the charity. So Joon says he didn’t think she needed to know. No woman wants to hear, she doesn’t have a need to know! But he didn’t stop her from working there either. Ma Rin wanted So Joon to tell her. She wanted him to share about this important entity in his life. She admits he seems to hid things from her. So Joon counters if he’s hiding anything, it’s to stop her from getting hurt. Ma Rin takes that to mean he’s hiding something. So Joon counters no one is 100% open, even her. So Joon is adamant that the only thing that matters is their happy future together. Ma Rin doesn’t understand his passion about the future them. Ma Rin says what matters to her, is that he’s hiding things and only considering the future not seeing the impact on the present. She shuts the bedroom door in his face.

She sits alone on the bed.

He lays alone on his bed. A barrage of text messages from her sent the previous evening stream on his phone. He sees the progression from worry, to anger, to claiming she won’t care about him anymore. So Joon can’t believe the mess his future time travel created. He moans that he did go home last night, waiting in the cold snowy night.

twy_ep6_10102 twy_ep6_10101
Gun Sook tells Director Kim she wants to live abroad. He’s not interested. Her only criteria are countries without cockroaches. LOL, I called her a cockroach last recap! Her husband says every country has cockroaches. He asks if she’s so jealous of Ma Rin that she wants to move. Gun Sook claims she’s upset because he works for the much younger So Joon. He chides her for underestimating he’s aspirations and ability to achieve them. Gun Sook leaves. Irked at his wife’s “concern” Director Kim recalls Doo Sik claiming he had a solid block of money to invest. When Director Kim asked Doo Sik why he was proposing to invest with him not So Joon, Doo Sik claimed Director Kim was more skilled. Director Kim encourages himself to keep pressing towards his goal.

So Joon sees Ma Rin outside on the swing. He texts her an apology. She doubts his sincerity when she sees the crying emoji. So Joon counters that he’s really sorry. She doesn’t like the smile emoji. He starts to text again but she’s faster with her text that tells him their fight won’t be resolved with an apology text. So Joon shuffles back into the house a dejected man.

He apologizes when she comes inside.

So Joon steps outside for a breath of air. He spots Doo Sik who turns away.

Ma Rin sits alone inside.

twy_ep6_10501twy_ep6_10500twy_ep6_10502  So Joon walks over to Doo Sik. Trapped, Doo Sik has to acknowledge him. So Joon asks what Doo Sik is doing outside his house. So Joon asks why he didn’t call after he read his message. Ma Rin steps outside and sees the two men talking. She wonders show the other man is. She hears So Joon say to Doo Sik “you said my life would reset after I got married. You said my future would change.” Doo Sik confirms this. So Joon says “my future is more twisted and complicated now.” Ma Rin can’t believe what she’s hearing.

My Thoughts

Secrets never help a relationship. So Joon hides that he’s a time traveler. I see the logic of that. So Joon hides his parents died in the subway explosion. I don’t see the logic of that. So Joon hides that he continued the charity his parents founded. I don’t see the logic of that. So Joon has created an atmosphere of mistrust. Then he delivers the double whammy when he admits to a stranger that marriage has only complicated things, not made them better as promised. Yep, So Joon just stepped in it…big time.

Director Kim is gunning for So Joon. No surprise that he’d like to be the top dog. The surprise was Doo Sik showing up and offering to invest with Director Kim NOT So Joon. Gun Sook intentionally insulted her husband when she implied it was shameful to work for the younger So Joon. I still don’t see the worth Gun Sook as a person. Her selfish, spiteful, weasel ways annoy me.

Doo Sik continues to mystify. Originally, he appeared to be So Joon’s friend. Then he took a step back and started avoiding him. Then he cast some coins at Director Kim who hopes to topple So Joon in business. Doo Sik’s interest has been focused on So Joon more than Ma Rin. I still think there’s a possibility that Doo Sik is Ma Rin’s long lost father, but if so, he’s ignoring the pain his daughter is going through. Considering her father walked out when she was 2, ignoring her pain is second nature.

Song Ma Rin (Shin Min A) started to see the inconsistencies in So Joon’s lifestyle. She questioned the cutting-edge products after Se Young told her So Joon has no research friends. She was hurt when he didn’t share that the charity she was working at was one he started. Even when she gave him a pointed opportunity to share, he didn’t. She got angry than turned to ice, when he stayed out all night without texting or calling. He’s in the dog house. His attempt at texting with emojis only dug him a deeper hole. Secrets create barriers. Their relationship is too new and tender to handle the tough stuff.

Yoo So Joon (Lee Je Hoon) seems unwilling to open up in any way to Ma Rin. It’s obvious he cares for her. But he’s torpedoing their relationship by keeping “his life” compartmentalized from “their life”. No wife wants to hear from her husband that she doesn’t have a need to know! Then not knowing that Ma Rin was listening, So Joon commits an egregious error when he shares his frustration over his messed-up life after marriage to Doo Sik. So Joon listen to me…you MUST open up to Ma Rin or she will leave you. Your time travel revealed she’ll leave you. What you are doing RIGHT NOW is sowing the seeds for her exodus.

Thankuuu for the recap. You’re the fastest:) i wonder what is doosik actually😣

I have so many feelings about this drama and your recaps just help me sort them out.
This is the first one I watch while it’s still airing (I’m new to dramaland and typically always watch any show seasons after they’re done), so I get to experience the suffering of waiting between episodes like never before, and it leads to a lot of over-thinking, apparently!

I keep thinking about how So Joon obviously treats marriage as life-time thing, from the very beginning. It’s comforting to me, to think that even when he had just first buds of feelings for Ma Rin, he is never seen considering divorcing her after their fates are changed and just paying child support, which shouldn’t be problem for him.

Even later, he wonders ‘how I am supposed to eat like this for rest of my life’ and considers sending her to cooking academy. In episode 6, when he asks her again to stay by his side, it’s not just his concern for the messed up future – he truly wants that long, long happy life with HER that he speaks of when Ma Rin confronts him later on.
Perhaps it is culture mentality thing, though? I have not really witnessed any divorced couples in dramaland yet.

In any case, the issue is that So Joon has no relationship experience and he appears to think that just good intention is enough to make everything work out. He’s in for a harsh wake up, dragging Ma Rin out of her rosy-glass state as well. In fact, we already see it happening during later half of ep. 6.

His sad puppy walk from the balcony made me bitter-sweetly grin. He is genuinely upset she’s angry with him and has no idea how to fix it. He is used to relying on his charm and winning smile to skip over issues (as we see him do it with his friends) and now faced with the Womanly Skill to twist every word/intention back on him, he’s just genuinely lost.

I am glad the drama actually openly tackled the issue ‘so focused on future you neglect the present and mess it up’ with the confrontation after his night out. Perhaps, this is what his futureself meant – do whatever you can to be happy with ‘that woman’ in the moment, without the thought of looming future. Only then you can fix it. If you try too hard, then you will never do it. Why cannot the futureself and futurefriends be less cryptic, though??

One thing I don’t quite agree in recap is “So Joon admits if she left him, he would be devastated. Ma Rin realizes that So Joon has fallen for her.” Ma Rin probably thinks he’s been in love all this time, since her trust in him so far has been painfully absolute. I think the crazy bit referred to his antics about her overall, as she still thinks he’s quite odd, if lovable. But the line itself definitely gave us glimpse his feelings are growing stronger. But, to each their own opinion! I honestly love your recaps, got a wordpress account basically just to start commenting. ❤

So glad you have posted your thoughts!

I get to experience the suffering of waiting between episodes like never before, and it leads to a lot of over-thinking, apparently!
Yes, when I started watching kdramas I watched previously aired series, but then I experienced the joy/pain of watching a show during it’s airing cycle. To put my thoughts out into the kdrama community I began blogging. I love interacting with others who are watching too.

…even when he had just first buds of feelings for Ma Rin, he is never seen considering divorcing…
      Good point.

when he asks her again to stay by his side, it’s not just his concern for the messed up future – he truly wants that long, long happy life with HER that he speaks of when Ma Rin confronts him later on…not really witnessed any divorced couples in dramaland yet
I agree that his expectation is to stay married. You are correct, divorce in dramaland isn’t shown heavily.

He’s in for a harsh wake up, dragging Ma Rin out of her rosy-glass state as well
Concur. Ma Rin is going through her own wake-up call that marriage isn’t the magic wand to make a relationship work. It’s the framework of a hopefully permanent relationship.

He is used to relying on his charm and winning smile to skip over issues (as we see him do it with his friends) and now faced with the Womanly Skill to twist every word/intention back on him, he’s just genuinely lost
Excellent point. I thought that myself. So Joon is used to working his charm with his smile and wheedling ways to get others to do what he wants. His encounter with Ki Doong on the roof is a perfect example of that. But when that doesn’t work, e.g. his interactions with Ma Rin after he stayed out all night, he’s stymied.

glad the drama actually openly tackled the issue ‘so focused on future you neglect the present and mess it up’ with the confrontation after his night out. Perhaps, this is what his futureself meant – do whatever you can to be happy with ‘that woman’ in the moment, without the thought of looming future. Only then you can fix it. If you try too hard, then you will never do it. Why cannot the futureself and futurefriends be less cryptic, though??
I see your logic on future self wanting So Joon work it out with Ma Rin in the present. I wonder if future folks are guarded because of the butterfly effect or that’s just the way Writer Heo wants to structure “the murky” that keeps us guessing.

Ma Rin probably thinks he’s been in love all this time, since her trust in him so far has been painfully absolute. I think the crazy bit referred to his antics about her overall, as she still thinks he’s quite odd, if lovable. But the line itself definitely gave us glimpse his feelings are growing stronger.
You put it well when describing Ma Rin’s trust as “painfully absolute”. Whatever the meaning of that moment, it was a sweet moment as they enjoyed each other.

Looking forward to the next episode!

      • imberreader says:

Ah, I am so glad my rambling made some sense!! And that I found this blog. I’ve been driving my sole kdrama watching friend crazy with how much I’m dying to talk about this and other dramas. (I obviously cannot do anything ‘casually’, sigh.)

Another thing I thought of is how there’s literally no wasted time on this show, even if some say it is slow. The scene where his friend is upset over break-up and So Joon is utterly unimpressed serves not only to point out how alienated from emotions and his friends, their problems he is because of future, but also a foreshadowing.

Now that he has to deal with his own unsure future and relationship problems where there’s no certainty of being together – or even the opposite, put together with his deep need to see it work out, it suddenly doesn’t seem so trivial at all, and he’s struggling, walking around like a scolded puppy.

I will never be quite over the swings/balcony scene. We see Ma Rin smiles a little at the messages, but there’s still too much of ??? between them for her just to give up on the matter, like So Joon would like. And her rejection of his clumsily extended hand cuts him deeply in way he didn’t expect, and not just because it never happens.

    • Jane Tilly says:

Hi @imberreader, welcome to Kdrama! Divorce may not be prominent in Kdrama, it is there as divorced characters or even an occasional drama with divorce as part of the theme. There is a divorce stigma in Korea.

While I believe So Joon may love or care for Ma Rin, I’m not sure how much he is in ❤ love with her. So Joon doesn’t need to consider divorce at this point in time as I don’t believe they have legally registered their marriage. Unlike in the U.S. where you are supposed to have a license to have a wedding, in Korea they can have a wedding ceremony without having a marriage. They can simply file marriage paperwork and be married without even saying “I do”. The drama Secret Garden had that type of marriage (Secret Garden should be on your watchlist) It was mentioned that many couples in Korea wait a year to register their marriages – maybe they do this to avoid the stigma of divorce.

Instead of 🎶if you liked it the you should’ve put a ring 💍 on it🎶. In Korea it would be 🎶if you liked it you should’ve registered it🎶. LOL

      • kjtamuser says:

Good explanation. So Joon could have used your emoji skills!

      • Jane Tilly says:

Yes, So Joon could have! Now he he is in the 🐩 🏠.

      • imberreader says:

Thank you for the welcome! I can’t believe I’ve breezed through so many kdramas already in a month that I’ve been in this vast land, but I guess being unemployed has its one upside, ahaha.

I noticed the registration factor and guessed something of the sort, regarding it. Still, I felt that even before future!Ki Doong raised red flag about registering, So Joon didn’t really consider not-registering it or divorcing afterward. We see him hesitating with the registering papers (because there are already some issues he’s not entirely sure how to tackle, especially regarding his time traveling clashing with his regular life), but he does fill them and afterwards and later holds Ma Rin close with tender, if troubled expression.

I agree he isn’t ‘in love’ per typical sense of 100 butterflies in chest and giddy joy at any simple interaction, but he definitely cares for her deeply. I, personally, don’t think this phase is needed to love partner and stay with them for life, so I am okay as watcher with that. But as I watch his attachment grow and doubt sneak into Ma Rin, my heart breaks.

This drama really gives me anxiety, haha. Even though I headed into it fully aware I might be getting unhappy ending.

  3. Jane Tilly says:

So Joon has become spoiled with knowing the future; he has become frustrated not knowing what happened to Ma Rin and himself. I think he has been too busy looking at the future and has forgotten to live in the present. This is evident in his relationships with his wife Ma Rin and best friend. Ki Doong.

I believe Doo Sik is the only one So Joon has discussed about his and Ma Rin’s deaths on the 10 year anniversary of the subway accident. I couldn’t help but wonder if this would be the Grim Reaper coming back to collect what he was owed…I recall the Grim Reaper in ”Goblin” indicated Eun Tak would be visited every 10 years. If not, what would be the significance of them dying on the 10th anniversary of the subway accident?

Ma Rin discovered in episode 4 that So Joon’s parents died in the subway accident and that So Joon rebooted “Happiness” in episode 5. So Joon is either clueless or ignoring Ma Rin’s hints about his parents and “Happiness”.

Mi Rin already has hesitations about her marriage, especially since Gun Sook sowed seeds of doubt of So Joon’s background. As human beings we want mutual trust in our relationships—we do not want to believe our significant other is deceiving us.
    • So Joon keeping secrets-potential DECEPTION.
    • So Joon staying out all night without calling – appears to be DECEPTION.
    • Mr. Shin Se Young’s dad, revealed So Joon’s parents died in the subway accident, not the car accident So Joon stated – DECEPTION.
    • Se Young drunkenly revealed So Joon doesn’t have friends in research – DECEPTION.
    • So Joon tried to convince Ma Rin she was still drunk and the future publication revealing the presidential election results was a “what if” – DECEPTION.

Ma Rin apparently CAN hold her liquor and started to connect the time travel dots with the futuristic “research” products and the future political publication. While she can’t wrap her mind around her time travel hypothesis; regardless, she knows So Joon is lying to her.

@imberreader is spot on about So Joon being invested in the relationship, but is naive about relationships – charm, skin-ship and sex are not going to cut it in the long run; honesty goes a long way to building trust. So Joon should have heeded Ki Doong’s advice and confided his time travel secret with Ma Rin—we know he cares about her. Hearing So Joon tell Doo Sik that marriage has become more complicated may be the straw for Ma Rin that breaks the camel’s back. As So Joon has chosen to conceal to time travel context of his remarks this may cause their separation and So Joon’s peripatetic journey. I concur with @KJT’s comment “Yep, So Joon just stepped in it…big time.”

Wow, interesting thought. That never crossed my mind!

So Joon is deception oriented. That’s the way he went into this relationship. Protecting his other life, his motivations, and he may have expected Ma Rin to continue to be a easily fooled as she was rather gullible in the initial episodes. Wrong! She has some brains.

While I’m still loving Seo In Guk’s “Flower”, I’m ready for the next song in this OST. Other shows have spoiled me with a song every week!

True enough we have been spoiled with weekly releases of so many excellent OSTs recently!

Even more, the year is xxx9, when 9 is ‘dangerous number’ as per Grim Reaper of Goblin, though 9 itself in year probably is not as important as life year’s number. I definitely thought of the 10 year circle, too.

Another thing I thought of is the factor that Ma Rin didn’t seem disabled in original death scene, though we maybe just didn’t see it. So, him saving her was already taken in account though it had not yet happened, somehow (even if he witnesses her being in wheelchair) and it makes me think more of ‘no matter what you do, it’s already accounted for and counts towards THIS future’. But maybe I’m over analyzing.

On another site, I saw someone being annoyed with Ma Rin about her reaction to the secrets and I feel like your bullet point is perfect example why there are just too many red flags. If it was just one X on the list that So Joon has done wrong and Ma Rin noticed, I’d also think it’s a little over the top, but there are too many drops in a cup that’s starting to overflow. It just stacks up to become a real issue.

No, she was not entirely logical in the confrontation scene, but she was absolutely human. If you have been sitting up entire night (after days of already being troubled), contemplating all that feels wrong about your relationship and the man you love, who effectively locks you out of his life beyond bedroom, it’s hard to keep a cool mind/reactions. His responses hardly helped, being quite quizzical.

Besides, Ma Rin has her own insecurities and issues due to past. She overreacts, over-analyzes, over-worries. Because she’s been abandoned by people who should stay by her side too often, or they turned out to be completely two-faced. I can see why it would take her a day to cool down and some proper conversation with So Joon. Unfortunately, the situation escalated due to overheard talk between her husband and his mentor.

(Perhaps I understand her more because I, personally, am over-sensitive to lies and have hard time accepting/forgiving them.)

Good analysis of Ma Rin’s motivations! Not liking be lied to, 100% normal.

      • Jane Tilly says:

Spill So Joon, spill! The longer you keep Ma Rin in the dark about your time travel, the harder it will be to work through/past it. Revealing the motivation behind the lies could go a long ways towards Ma Rin accepting/forgiving So Joon.
