Favorite Scene – Fated to Love You – Press Conference Kiss

If I’ve got only a moment there are certain scenes I watch for a quick hit of kdrama goodness.

Today’s Favorite Scene is the Press Conference Kiss from Fated to Love You episode 18.  Our couple’s separation is about to end with a bold passionate move by our normally quiet, reserved leading lady. Let’s watch her go!

The setup – Our leading lady Mi Young (Jang Na Ra) has found out our leading man Lee Gun (Jang Hyuk) has been a noble idiot. He broke up with her 3 years ago believing he had a disease that would wipe his memory. He ended things because he did not want to ask her to live with the possibility of the disease ruining their life together. Mi Young realizes his choice has robbed them of 3 years of happiness. She goes to the press conference to set him straight.

Mi Young arrives at the press conference and boldly calls Lee Gun out.
MY:    I found out everything. (she walks closer to him) I know reason you lied to me and push me away harshly. 
LG:    Look here Ellie Kim. What are you doing at my press conference?
MY:    Look into my eyes and lie to me again. Tell me you did not miss me these three years. Tell me I was not important to you personally. 
LG:    Secretary Tak! Get her out of this room.
MY:    Tell me. If you are confident you can live without me, then I will leave you alone.

LG:    Ok, I lied. If you suffer or are in pain, then I am in pain too. That is why I lied!
MY:    Are you stupid?
LG:    What did you say?
MY:    (steps onto the platform with him) Why are you worrying in advance about what I might suffer? Do not do that anymore. Why, for a disease that has not happened, do we have to be sad, separate and cry? We can cry when we have something to cry about.
LG:    Now look here (tears glisten in his eyes). Everything you found out about, does not change anything. My disease does not change (a tear falls onto his cheek) and I do not have the right to love you.
MY:    (walks up to him and grabs his suit lapels) Why do you need a right to love? I am telling you it is ok. The ticking time bomb, we do not know when it will explode. Let us not worry in advance. No matter what, I will not let you be sick and alone. I love you.

She kisses him with the passion of a woman that will not be denied. She wills him to respond.

Stunned he stands there. I liked the role reversal, in this kiss the man had the stunned look and could not fully engage in the kiss. I loved the tears in his eyes…his dream has come true…his woman has released him from the chains he forged himself. Jang Hyuk is superb!

She is like water to a parched man, he cannot deny what his heart wants, what she offers freely, and he kisses her back with equal passion.

This is the moment we’ve waited for…the noble idiocy phase is over. Our couple comes full circle. SHE saves HIM (episode 18), just as HE saved HER (episode 2). The series right could have ended right there on this high note!
