Favorite Scene – Angel Eyes – Airport Reunion

If I’ve got only a moment there are certain scenes I watch for a quick hit of kdrama goodness.

Today’s Favorite Scene is the Airport Reunion scene from Angel Eyes episode 7. Our leading lady now knows the leading man is her first love. Why didn’t she know who he was? Soo Wan (Ku Hye Sun) was blind during their teenage romance, but now she can see. Dong Joo (Lee Sang Yoon) hid his identify for 6 episodes but now the truth is know.

The setup – Soo Wan confronts Dong Joo about why he hid his identity. Dong Joo claims at first he didn’t recognize her, she was so happy, and he didn’t want to remember the past and her. To push her away, Dong Joo coldly tells her to forget the past and forget him. Dong Joo packs his suitcase to leave Korea. When Soo Wan learns that Dong Joo has left, she searches for him. En route to the airport she listens to the recorded messages he made for her every birthday during their separation, learning how he missed her. Most importantly, she hears his confession that he lied to her last night.

Soo Wan arrives at the airport frantic to find him. In desperation, she blows a whistle (his gift to her years ago). Dong Joo appears. Soo Won scolds him for breaking his promise not once but twice that he would never leave her without her permission. Dong Joo sees the mp3 player in her hand and realizes she’s heard his confession. They stare into each other eyes with Dong Joo’s voiceover “From the moment I saw you, I wanted to tell you one thing…that I missed you.” Dong Joo pulls Soo Wan into a hug and finally tells her “I missed you Soo Wan”. So ends episode 6.

All that sounds great right? Soo Wan and Dong Joo are reunited. They are happy. They can begin again.

But wait there’s more…Episode 7 begins where we left off, at the airport.

Dong Joo and Soo Wan are sitting side by side. Dong Joo thanks Soo Wan for showing her face to him. Now he can leave her AND say goodbye. He gets up and walks away. Stunned she calls after him “Don’t Go”. He stops, waits a moment then walks away, and passes the security checkpoint so she cannot follow. Soo Wan continues to call “Don’t Go” but to no avail. What? He LEAVES? Behind the security checkpoint, Dong Joo remembers Son Wan’s father begging him to leave so Soo Wan could have a normal life. He decided to honor the request.

Who was more surprised…Soo Wan or me? I’ll never forget being stunned at this moment in the drama. Sweet reunion, then our leading man walks away from our leading lady. I never saw it coming.

He’s kind of interesting looking and I like the way you describe the scene. I’m gonna have to add this to my “to watch” list.

Wow–it has been 2 years since I saw this one and I had to go back and watch portions of episodes 6 & 7 again. It was great that Soo Wan finally got to know Dong Joo’s feelings from the MP3 player and then she had her own confession time. Short lived, but nice 💋 reunion! Dong Joo did not have the typical K-Drama reaction when he chose to still get on the plane. I just remember that Dong Joo was influenced by Soo Wan’s dad 😡 who is responsible to throwing a wrench into this relationship for his own selfish reasons!

He was definitely not going to be nominated for “Dad of the Year”
