Favorite Scene – Lie to Me – “Coke” Kiss

If I’ve got only a moment there are certain scenes I watch for a quick hit of kdrama goodness.

Today’s Favorite Scene is the “Coke” Kiss from Lie to Me episode 8. This was a standout moment for this series as the chemistry of the two leading actors pops off the screen. This sub par series had an flimsy excuse of a story but had some positive moments. Our two attractive leads worked their chemistry but it was insufficient to overcome the limited story.

Nutshell – Our leading man Hyun Ki Joon (Kang Ji Hwan) has been forced to pretend to be married to our leading lady, Kong Ah Jung (Yoon Eun Hye). She started the lie that she was married to Ki Joon. He has become attracted to Ah Jung.

The setup – The previous evening a drunk Ah Jung told the taxi driver to take her to her husband’s house. When she wakes the next morning, she’s startled to find herself at Ki Joon’s house. She tries to sneak out but he catches her. He teases her that she doesn’t remember what happened last night. Alarmed and irritated she follows him into the kitchen. He assures her nothing happened. She grabs a bottle of coke to pour herself a glass. Ki Joon tells her she looks frightful and she heads the bathroom to rectify what she can.

Ki Joon shakes the bottle of coke while she’s in the bathroom. When Ah Jung returns and opens the bottle of coke and it sprays all over her. Ki Joon laughs hard. Ah Jung turns the tables and sprays the coke on him. It’s a coke free for all as they chase each other around the kitchen!

Ki Joon catches her pinning her hands behind her back. They stare into each other’s eyes. Ki Joon moves in for a kiss but Ah Jung pulls back. He’s kissed her before “for show”. She asks if the kiss “is real”.  Atta Girl! He stares at her and states this “is real”.  I believe him!

Ki Joon kisses her. The back lighting in the scene is distracting. When they break apart he asks if she’s happy, for this is her second kiss (first kiss was the “for show” kiss at karaoke with friends).

Ah Jung is irked and says this is not her second kiss. Now she initiates the kiss. She shows her kissing skills. I love the shot of her on tip toes. Folks, we have active participation by both parties in this terrific kiss.

After the kiss ends, Ah Jung smiles and declares the kiss tasted sweet. That puts a smile on Ki Joon’s face. When his cell phone rings, he takes her hand to keep their connection and answers the phone. Sweet when he holds her hand to keep her by his side.

What makes a good kissing scene? Did this scene deliver?
* Active participation between both parties – YES
* Initial kiss then follow on kiss – YES
* Deep stares at into each other’s eyes – YES
* Banter is a bonus – YES

This was.one of.my favorite scene which made me stick.with the drama until the drama went berserk and i tuned it for the ending which was a sweet.product placement to make me travel that moment and experience fantasy romance.

The 💋Coke Kiss💋 is in my top 10 Kdrama kisses. Even if the “drama went berserk”, I still loved the drama. What I really disliked about this drama was that stupid ice cream song, which played in the background of this kiss. In my opinion it is one the most annoying OST songs of all time. Despite that, I liked this drama enough to buy it.

Yoon Eun Hye seems to be trending your “Favorite Scenes” series. The last thing I say her in was “Marry Him if You Dare”. I sure hope they were trying to make her look her worst in that drama, because she looked dreadful, especially the frizzy reddish hair! 😦 I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out who “Him” was–it was never clarified (ex-husband or Jung Yong Hwa), nor did she seem to settle on anyone by the end of the drama. I would really like to see Yoon Eun Hye is something good again. ❤

I concur that the ice cream song not a favorite. Yoon Eun Hye is an excellent kisser which seems to be the focus of my Favorite Scenes. I’ll have to switch that up.
I did not see “Marry Him If You Dare”, so I’ve only seen Yoon Eun Hye in “Coffee Prince” and “Lie to Me”.
I agree that she is overdue for a good drama. Like you I hope a stellar drama is in her (and our) future.
